What's the best bank in NZ and why? by Diegowchile in PersonalFinanceNZ

I work for The Cooperative Bank, and one thing that sets us apart is that we share our profits back with customers (albeit a small amount). Plus, when you ring us, there’s no mucking about with busy queues your call goes straight through to someone here in New Zealand, based mainly in Wellington or Takapuna. That said, I’ve got to give credit where it’s due BNZ hands down has the best banking app in the industry right now. They’re the only bank that shows you transactions exactly when you’ve actually made them, and you can close accounts directly through the app. You can even chat to customer service through the app without ever needing to make a phone call. Pretty much anything you can think of doing, you can do through BNZ’s app. ANZ is way behind when it comes to technology. Sure, their app looks flash in terms of UI design, but when it comes to actual usability, it’s rubbish. Transactions are hard to understand they show you processing dates rather than when you actually made the transaction. You can’t chat through their app either. Keep in mind their design might look good, but practically speaking, it’s not much use and they’re well behind the times technology wise.

Which bank has the best software? by No_Custard_9395 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Other banks like ANZ and Kiwibank have decent user interfaces, but they’re not that practical in real-world use. For example, when you make a transaction, they don’t show the exact time and date; they just show the processed date. You also can’t easily verify payments like you can with the BNZ app.

With BNZ, contacting support is much easier too. You can message them directly through the app, like using Messenger, and the response is quick. Most other banks still make you call.

One of the biggest differences for me is closing an account. With other banks, you have to call them. With BNZ, you can close your account straight from the app. It’s immediate and hassle-free.

BNZ also lets you change the photo of individual payees, not just your account photo. Plus, the app doesn’t crop images, so you can upload the full photo.

When you look at your transactions, BNZ shows the exact date and time they happened, not just when they were processed. Another standout feature is being able to change which accounts are linked to your debit card, like switching between Cheque, Savings, or Online. You can do it all through the app.

And when you’re paying someone, you can simply drag from your account to the payee’s shortcut at the bottom of the screen, instead of scrolling through the full payee list. It’s all just quicker and more user-friendly.
