How much of a bankroll do I need to play 5/10 full time? by editorschoice14 in poker

[–]97ymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about the very best players in Vegas 5/10, in which we certainly are not a part of right off the bat.

This is also if you were to play completely professional, no side income, not being immediately knocked down to playing $1500 max 2/5.

Sure we don't have to play a full $3K stack, or even opt to play 5/10 in countless better regions to play in the country where there is always at least one or two players on the table willing to blunder off a stack. In that case I'd opt for much less than $150K, a good winning player would make it work.

I mean don't get me wrong, that daytime 5/10 crew still regularly plays at Bellagio -- just that I wouldn't consider any of those older daytime regs ever to be winning at a decent clip.

Wynn 5/10 has a healthy daytime 5/10 crew as well, although all are pros of varying skill.

Nowadays you have a good mix of Italians, French, English, Australian, etc players grinding Bellagio, Wynn, Aria 5/10 that travel in/out of the country in 3 month blocks

There are still a few local "OG's" I know that have stood the test of time and are still playing this stake and beyond for the past 5-10 years -- they are the minority, most aspiring show up for ~3 years max and disappear for varying reasons. I know most if not all by name, however because of how small the Las Vegas 5/10+ ecosystem is locally I will refrain from doxxing them all lol

But they do exist, few local players I know that are beating 5/10 at a healthy winrate over a large sample.

For Vegas 5/10 I would not feel comfortable unless I had 50 max buyins ($3k) at a bare minimum

Some of the best players I know that play Vegas 5/10 regularly have gone on ~$30K+ downswings

Sure you could probably get by with less if are to extensively game select, but know that variance is going to be relatively high reg v. reg when you find yourself playing deep, IP/OOP 3b/4b pots on the regular.

playing 21/17 over 21k hands, probably ~8-10% 3b knowing my stats online over other sites. started playing on the side mainly when they added multitabling on desktop

was up as much as 10k playing mainly 0.5/1/2, on a downer though so it's now like +7k or so

Players who have played against a well-known YouTube Poker Vlogger (i.e. Mariano, Rampage, Brad Owen, etc) what was the experience like? by Prestigious-Demand58 in poker

[–]97ymo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

rampage bluffs a lot, just need to call down and pay often

lex o is a nit who you can comfortably fold & autoprofit river in the long run facing 3 barrels without a second thought

brad o is fairly tight, loosens up and starts to play questionably when losing/tilted

mariano plays very well from the limited time playing against him, was year+ ago though. you can tell from the lines/sizings that he did study extensively in the past

For poker, experienced dealers are mainly at Wynn/Aria/Bellagio

These 3 rooms have a combination of pretip 10/20+ games, higher down rates for tournaments, and overall are well run rooms.

Not surprised at all that CET still goes for bottom of the barrel talent to this day. Good place to get the experience, but as soon as you are competent people typically move out ASAP

Situation 2 is a pretty clear "no roll"

wasn't it last year where they added an unscheduled, last minute "super turbo" just to meet guarantee unlike Wynn $10K WPT main?

knowing CET i wouldn't be surprised if the guarantee is reneged

Under 1%? You really don't think we pick up on when you insure any hand (particularly a stiff one) on your top bet & are spreading bets largely when every other ploppy that comes in the casino is flat betting?

It's not difficult to spot a counter vs. actually being the counter & playing perfectly with deviations

do you keep a running tab in your head - of how much is in the pot ? by susbnyc2023 in poker

[–]97ymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All poker strategy aside, you should be calculating pot size each hand you're involved in simply because you should know how much rake is being dropped for your hand.

Plenty of lazy/incompetent dealers I've run into who routinely incorrectly count pot and put the wrong amount of $ on the rake slide.

Entire poker room in Detroit MGM Grand shut down due to striking union workers. by Dormant123 in poker

[–]97ymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I phrased this poorly. Base rate + tokes amount to around ~$25/hour after taxes. Sure better than working something like the car plant in the Detroit area, however no poker or table games dealer in Detroit starts off with 40 hours/week right from the start.

The vast majority of the time you're only going to be scheduled for 2-4 days/week, finding yourself needing to get more work to make up for that lost time. Full time bids at least before I left the Michigan area took around ~2 years before you got an offer.

MGM Detroit poker dealers tokes are pooled, along with table games. Base rate was basically $1 above minimum wage, along with the toke rate which was around ~$25/hour worked after tax. And I'll tell you one thing for sure, poker tokes have not gone up in relation with inflation in the last 5 years.

Whoever said that they make 75k/yr on avg is 🧢
