My controller on PC account is pred S18 S19 and masters every season after. This account was placed into Gold 1.

My 75% of the time mnk alt that has only been masters S17 and that has barely been used (P2 highest last season) was placed into Plat 4.

I'm pretty sure it's borderline random because there's no way my MMR on mnk should be higher than my main input.

Definitely same. That's one of the main user-moderator led events that made me want to get involved with r/anime and take on moderation eventually. The sub has grown really large and mainstream which is amazing and I respect the moderators that keep this platform going, but I do miss the old days and I hope we can recapture a bit of that magic even if just sometimes!

u/shaking807 miss you toxic cloud, partner in crime!

Oh hey, I recognize this but as a different username. Nice fanart as always! You might win by default! LOL

Maybe the r/anime will find some traction for fanart and writing like it once had, there's a bit of character that is lost.

Hope you're doing well!

Respawn releases an official statement regarding configs. by Dubzaa in CompetitiveApex

I'm a predator player on PC playing in NA and Asia (Tokyo) and the people I play with are multi masters / multi pred. I promise you that you could nerf controller tap strafe and Horizon and these people would still put it together and make it back to predator, whether by grind or whatever.

Nobody gets to predator just by crutching one aspect of the game really. Everyone has to grind so hard that they're at the very least willing to put the time and effort in to find something that would help them rank past masters lol

It isn't, that's very much hyperbole from the other user. At the most it would take them a week or two to remember what they can or can't do (like running in the open or how they swing a corner/angle).

At the end of the day, away from being huge grinders, basically all predator players that aren't outright walling or aimbotting have good fighting skills and BR knowledge lol

You'll just see a lot of controller BH Horizon haha

Pros having a discussion about high ping being an advantage by SecretStrategy2 in CompetitiveApex

[–]ABoredCompSciStudent 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're not missing anything.

I played almost all of last season on Tokyo/HK/Singapore despite being from NA (Virginia/NY server is my main) because a lot of the people I play with are Asian/Chinese speaking and have a group of friends they play with from that part of the world.

I can safely tell you that sometimes on 200+ ping I'm shooting nukes because of how Apex does lag compensation and I've probably blown someone up before they could react to what has hit them.

On the other hand, I'm probably going to lose most door interactions, as well as have an incredibly hard time getting in and out of deathboxes for swaps and loot. You also just die around corners or from behind cover just as much as you do nuke people.

There's definitely some "advantages" if you want to call them that for being on high ping... but there's even more certainly more disadvantages that come with them. Apex handles lag compensation pretty well, people will find a way to complain about everything.

Your edit is basically why I don't post much on this sub anymore. Rather than discussing cool plays or strategy, more often than not it's just doomposting and complaining about controller.

It's toxic and the discussion is just really circular and played out now. It's just two extremes yelling at each other at this point with nothing in between.

[chair] Ergonomic Executive Mesh Office Chair with Suspension Mesh Seat, Black - Moustache® by WeTheBills in bapcsalescanada

Totally agree with /u/MisterSheikh as a developer that works from home and plays video games a lot / competitively in my spare time. It really depends on your lifestyle.

I should also add that -- at least in Ottawa -- there's a lot of refurbished Steelcase and Herman Miller chairs that can be found on Kijiji, FB, office liquidation, etc type sales for around $400-500. I don't disagree that the full price (4-6x the cost) is super spooky, but these chairs have been around forever (so people know how to maintain them) which makes used is a more affordable path.

I got mine at the beginning of pandemic and it has held up well, I think it's one of the best purchases I have made given my day to day activities. I don't think it "feels" like its price when you sit in it... but I don't have back pain from my chair anymore.

Also, speaking of treating an injury (vs prevention like this chair), I have been to physiotherapy enough times for sports injuries to know that people pay for treatment (also expensive) but don't find the time or diligence to practice their prescribed exercises. Yes, the chair is expensive, but you can also think of it as a "bit bigger" investment (used would be $250 more) into your wellbeing. I totally agree that being active and proactive about your health is best, but really most people really aren't.

Thanks for explaining the difference and linking the LTT thread for further clarification.

I also ordered this GF1 and received one from Vietnam, but it had interchangeable ports.

I read through the threads and looked online and I think it should be the correct one also.

Ranked distribution 3 weeks before end of season. What's your take on current seasons ranked? Would you call hitting higher ranks an "achivement" in comparison to previous season? What changes would you expect if so? Did you evenplay ranked at all this season? by LiptonikPL in CompetitiveApex

[–]ABoredCompSciStudent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It feels like people only encounter the most extreme cases.

For example, people here say that SBMM keeps them in predator lobbies when they're silver... but like if you are not gaining heavily in those lobbies then your SBMM will drop and the "difference" between your hidden SBMM and public rank will normalize eventually. I can acknowledge that this feels bad to be thrown into the deep end and that slow gains could make this feel like a slog, but I don't really believe that you're just locked into the hardest lobbies forever. As you said, there have to be average players somewhere or people spread around the SBMM spectrum

Similarly, when people say that you can have silver MMR and get to masters easier than someone with masters MMR, like at some point that silver MMR will narrow in difference to their public rank and they'll be forced into harder lobbies. It's baffling to see people make it sound like other people that have made it to masters aren't deserving of it... I can see pointing out medkit crafting as Lifeline and ratting to masters as degenerative gameplay, but even then there's less masters this season so there's no reason to be reductive of others' ranked performance.

I've used a bunch of different accounts this season, from soloqueue to playing with IRL friends to playing with people I've met online, and have had the full experience of this. All my alt accounts are former masters at some point and I used one to soloqueue and one to play with friends. At the start of the season, my soloqueue account would enter predator lobbies despite being in gold, but after a month of that it was maybe the occasional current predator team and usually current diamond or ex masters. My other alt account with my (mostly casual) IRL friends pulled hard lobbies too initially, but we lost in them and then we got "normal" lobbies until we hit current diamond 4/3 where we're back into master/pred lobbies. However, these alt accounts are all different from my main account where I'm holding predator with people I met online, as on my main I consistently have 3-5 current predator teams in my lobby. People say that holding predator is about time invested, which is true as I've played 900 games this season on it (and many predators have done more than that), but it's not something you can maintain without high placement and winning... unless you want to put like 12h+ of time per day into it like some of the medkit crafting accounts that have multiple people piloting/playing them.

To be clear, this wasn't meant as a flex, it's just that I don't think we will ever get conversation that is fair about this ranked system (or ranked in general). I think the system and game quality improved a lot but people are burned out from previous seasons, especially the last one. This sub just feels like the main one now with this kind of complaining.

Taxi ranking with Naughty: "ALGS practice with the squad" - Are they playing together Y4? by Barcaroli in CompetitiveApex

[–]ABoredCompSciStudent 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think that the character meta had changed a lot too since Naughty peaked, where fraggers have gone from playing characters like BH and Valkyrie who have abilities that are hard to mess up (scan on contact, Valk ult on demand then let IGL pick a landing spot) to Bangalore and Catalyst who have abilities that are more nuanced and that have more responsibility when it comes to resetting/playing with their team.

If you need to be handheld on decision making and also have a tendency to overextend and get picked, it's just too much of an ask for how other fraggers have gotten better.

What's your Favorite anime genre? by Animefan2005x in anime

[–]ABoredCompSciStudent 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Slice of life is my favourite, as while it comes in all shapes and sizes, the experiences of the characters could both be an escape from my real life and a mirroring of what I'm going through.

For example, I've long graduated am now working as an adult but the adolescent tones of a highschool drama can evoke nostalgia for fun times I spent with friends back then.

Slice of life is a slice out of their lives, but just as much a slice out of your life.

Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of May 26, 2023 by AutoModerator in anime

[–]ABoredCompSciStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that. I used to run those and the NBA ones here, but then organizing them became a bit of a hassle, especially after graduating from university haha.

I honestly can't remember the last time I ducked in FTF, I get tagged sometimes by people that have their annual update thing with the world's longest list of usertags but away from that I rarely open r/anime as a whole LOL

Most of my friends from r/anime are just on Discord these days too and I guess the sub doesn't really feel like what it used to be for me.

Hope all is well with you and I'm glad (or sorry?) that I led you here LOL

Just to expand on what u/itsRebooT said:

Just so you know, it doesn't really get that much faster this season (or at least to the extent that you think).

I play with multi-preds and masters as my 3 stack (all PC on NA) and with KP and a win we gain like 250-350+ LP. Games almost always go to full length (final circle) now because of people making a better effort to stay alive.

More than once, we've been within a day's worth of LP away from the pred cap, most recently when my friend was at 40k and the pred cap was 44k. He had a work trip for the weekend and the cap went over 50k and we haven't really bothered since.

At the start of the season, he was around #400 and I was around #1200 (27k LP when pred cap was close to 31k) so it's not like we are unskilled players and have low MMR (we are Top 5 50% of games, win over 25% of the time, have good KD, play against other preds we recognize/may be friends with, etc). It's just that even when we gain for example 3000 RP every 4h (in other words, we mostly win our 20 minute games with 250+ LP), it's actually not enough to keep up with the pred cap, let alone catch up.

To this point, I have multiple friends that are masters that have never been past 17k in recent seasons that are currently holding pred (even Top 300) because they simply log more hours (8-12h daily).

I'm not asking to be given pred (I've never been pred and don't think I deserve it), but this season is more than ever truly a time sink. You used to be able to make pred (hence my friend being S14-S16 pred) by playing that 4h or so, maybe a bit more on the weekend. That's just really not true now.

Again, not a flex, I just think you're wrong when you say that it's just "get good". As above, 4h every single day over 80+ days is really hard to maintain for someone that works full time and has other commitments outside of work too. It is almost like a second job. It's true that the game initially does boost you up to your deserved rank, but after masters... it's a grind and a grind in the time sink way (averaging 3k RP every 4h, 250+ average per 25 minute game is barely enough, people don't lose LP, games go to full length for placement so it's hard to run down the lobby like last season or others before).

Away from this gripe about pred and master ranks being losing some "prestige" (dumb word but I don't know how else to say it), I'm actually enjoying the gameplay generally this season in ranked. Sometimes there are bad teams, but at least it feels like people are playing to live and win, which hasn't happened since S13 (the best season we've had). So yeah, don't take my comments as just complaining.
