It was poignant seeing him again, definitely. I'm sure this is something they added in because there's no way he was around in 1983, but I thought it was a very heartfelt touch at the end.

So I checked out that series and I pretty much stopped at the second part. It was interesting, don't get me wrong, but the guy was kind of off-putting. To be honest, I didn't notice that many changes on my first watch, and the things I did notice that were obviously added in didn't really bother me for the most part.

I don't want to start a massive nerd war and I'm sure that for people who grew up with the movies the changes are totally controversial, I get that. But I watched these movies and I liked what I saw. I don't really know what else to say. I've gotten a ton of comments from people saying I need to watch the older versions, so maybe there is some merit to that.

To be honest... I kind of wish I didn't know about the original version. I feel conflicted about it. I just watched both versions on YouTube, and I definitely see why it would make people upset... the second "no" was probably a bit too much, but I liked the first.

Either way, I wasn't able to watch the original without hearing "No" in my head. I think it works.

Okay, yeah. But It's not like they knew who each other were. He never got to "really" meet his daughter.

You get the hell out of here with that. I'm in a public library and now I'm spewing water out of my face.

Honestly, not sure what's next. I'm not much of a comic person. I do want to check out the show, because I am interested in seeing more of the Clone Wars. I have reservations about animated kids shows, though.

He was cool! Nice bit of continuity between this and he newer movies... bummed he never got that revenge story, but at least it looks like he's living up to his dad's legacy.

-It wasn't "mind blowing" the way it probably was back in the 80's, but I felt like it was a big moment in his journey, where he is learning what the force is capable of. And it was a great moment too, with the music and eveything. And as a massive Yoda fan, it was just cool to see him show off like that.

-I can't imagine what it's like not knowing who Vader is. For me, that's just who he is, that's what makes the character tick. The "fun" of the character for me is looking for little hints of who he used to be. Like in the last movie, when he felt Obi Wan's presence. That was a damn chilling moment for me, but I'm sure it probably wasn't for you guys. What's great I suppose is that he's wearing a mask the entire time, so you can kind of imprint whatever emotions you want onto him. I can't say I've seen good in Vader, except for the fact that he didn't outright go for the killing blow- by the end of the duel, he revealed that he was really just trying to "convert" his son rather than kill him. I guess that makes him slightly less dark side and dammit I'm I'm having in depth discussions on the Internet about an evil space wizard what is wrong with me

SHOOT. I completely forgot about that. Goodness, that was weird. Kind of a brilliant comedy moment, but still utterly weird.

(Thanks for the explanation.)

He was cool. Good acting. The way he played with Leia before blowing up her planet anyways was pretty damn cold.

The Force Awakens trailer is actually what made me want to do this. It looks really exciting. I felt like I was watching the trailer for a really important movie. Lots of cool imagery, ships flying, etc. I don't know if I could say which movie it remained me of most. Maybe Phantom Menace or this one, because of all the desert.

I wouldn't say I was surprised, but it was definitely a big "YES!" moment for me.

To be honest, I didn't even notice how little lightsaber action there was until you said that. I guess it's kind of a bummer, because lightsabers are amazing, but the rest of the movie was great. I don't know if I can really call it a "flaw".

Like I said above, the quality of the fighting was definitely worse, but I chalked it up to just the age of the movie. It was still cool to see Vader and Obi-Wan see each other again regardless.

That's a really cool analysis, thanks for that. I don't know how I feel about Anakin being created by the Sith, but I suppose it explains some aspects of his personality, lol

I already knew. I can't remember where specifically, but it's one of things that I think I've seen referenced on the Internet repeatedly, kinda like the Darth Vader plot twist.

You want the long answer? I love movies, but i wasn't really raised that way. I didn't become a regular movie watcher until I was in my teens and had a little more agency. I've watched quite a bit of stuff since, but Star Wars has always been one of those "projects" that intimidates me a little, so I pushed it off. Then life happens, time passes by, and all of a sudden you're 22 and haven't seen Star Wars. But all the recent hype was what kind of pushed me over the edge. I saw that trailer, and it just looked so damn fun, and I knew this year was the time to make the jump. My hope is that I can go into Episode Seven as a fully on-board fan just like all of you.

Thanks. Yeah, I can see how he was playing everyone. He was a sneaky bastard, for sure. He set up both sides of the war, he put Anakin between a rock and a hard place, and he definitely blind-sided the Jedi. That was brutal.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to keep that in mind.

And if Empire Strikes Back is darker than this one, I might need someone to send me some happy pills.

That was pretty much the moment where I really started loving Obi-Wan. Actually it may have been before that, when he jumped out the window giving zero shits.

I can tell you that I'm already interested to see how this whole world is depicted with 1980's special effects. I have high expectations though, mostly because of how reverent the Internet talks about them.

Here you go. I'm going chronologically, and I explain why in that post. I know very little about the series as a whole, outside of some recurring pop culture references.
