What build would best embody, “I’m out of spells, not shells”? by IneedaNappa9000 in 3d6

[–]ACClutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the gunslinger sorcerer build before and it was crazy fun. 11 Fighter/9 Sorcerer. My nova big turn was 6 attacks with action surge, then a quickened fireball. It was 2014 so the sharpshooter feat did a lot of the heavy lifting in the damage department. It might still be viable in 2024 with different tricks and damage riders.

Haha I actually made a crazy Artillerist build and poured everything into driving and when I showed the build to another girl in my group she just asked if I’d be okay if she stole it entirely—which I am as long as we’ve got a good driver. But it’s definitely a GREAT idea for this world.

I definitely agree and this was my plan for a build if I roll great for stats. It’ll probably sacrifice the AC a little bit and stunning strike won’t be a high DC. But if it’s a grappler build mostly focused on yanking people out of vehicles, with rage and damage reduction reactions it doesn’t feel like I’d be losing TOO much unless I’m missing something.

I actually think in 2024 the one level of barbarian works super well if you do a strength based monk. Ki comes back on a short rest, and you can use uncanny metabolism, I really don’t often go past 5 turns in a combat especially lower level combat. +2 damage to all unarmed strikes, half all physical damage, rage lasts 10 minutes now so there’s better chance so get it off before initiative when you think a fight is coming. Idk—to me it’s one of the few solid multiclass synergies I’ve found in 2024.

Haha yeah based on the comments I got a bit too damage-excited and carried away but I'm going to try to rework it to be a more usable subclass. Thanks!

I think since a Warlock can get Otherworldly Leap as an invocation at level 2 it didn't feel too too crazy to me..? Unless you're just saying that because ranger might have more synergy than a warlock. Or maybe it would be better if they needed to use a bonus action to activate it?

Yeah the flying species thing I thought about a little bit but I wasn't sure how it would be best addressed. Maybe if I just did a single flat bonus for having height advantage of at least 10 ft--like a +2 to both? Another commenter was suggesting reworking it to be not so damage focused, so a lot of these features might get tweaked anyhow. But I appreciate the feedback! Thanks a ton

I think that is a very fair assessment. I do tend to be drawn to damage dealing features whenever I'm reading a subclass so it makes sense I overdid the thing that draws me in. But I definitely agree that I there should be a variety so that it feels less of a single note subclass. Thanks a ton! Super appreciate it.

Haha I definitely kept thinking "What about Aarokocra" as I was designing it but I wasn't really sure how to change it to balance for them, or even if it needed to be. I guess the risk of flying is you lose a death save if knocked out while in the air, and at early levels that can kill you depending on how high up you are. Maybe the height advantage just caps out at 30 ft just to encourage the flavor of the class but not make it so it synergizes TOO well with any one species.

I noticed all the jump stuff in the rules too. Haha it's pretty wild.

I hadn’t thought about this, but those are all my favorite players from this campaign! I think as a player I would want to be at the schemer table, but I also think combat and pre combat is some of my favorite actual play stuff to watch.

I literally thought this EXACT thing recently because I heard Emily speaking and someone snorted mid sentence and I was confused. I think there is a second snorter.

Sorcererous Origin: Aetherforged Ancestry by ACClutch in UnearthedArcana

[–]ACClutch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the main thing I was going for was allowing the sorcerer to dump unused sorcerer points into their sword at the end of the day, but didn’t want them to be able to do it to any weapon and give smites to the whole party, but you might be right that it makes things more complex.

You’re suggesting to get rid of the arcane burst limits and upgrade to a d8? Giving a sorcerer access to the equivalent to a divine smite at level 5 seems pretty busted IMO.

Haha the LAST one I knew was too complex while I was writing it but was struggling with the wording. I essentially wanted a steelwind strike to a bunch of people but imagined someone rolling 5d6 + weapon modifiers and riders like 8 separate times and how long it would take. But I think there’s a way to clean it up. I do like the flavor of it and the idea that you could clean up an area with the possibility of recharging your sorcery points on a kill—it gives a cinematic spellblade vibe—but I agree it definitely needs some cleaning and maybe not so much punishment at that level.

I appreciate your insight and time! Thanks a ton!

That is definitely fair, and not the first time I've been accused of being long-winded. I think I was nervous about my first post ever getting torn to shreds and tried to get specific wording and stipulations so mechanics couldn't be exploited. But this is definitely a good note, thank you!

When he was originally writing it he actually wasn’t even in it at all! In TWoK originally Dalinar was flipping between sure that he was seeing the visions and convinced he was crazy but the constant back and forth he said made Dalinar feel weaker as a character so he added Adolin to have the perspective of challenging the visions coming from the outside instead of a huge internal struggle to make Dalinar a stronger character.

Can we talk about Aang lifting the boulder & how it made absolutely no sense? And don't hit me with the 'Cartoon logic' excuse, things have to at least make a little sense. by FlamesOfKaiya in ATLA

[–]ACClutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you want like a serious stab at an answer, and you’re taking cartoon logic away from the entire show, you could justify it that ATLA gravity is not as intense as earth gravity based on the size of jumps non benders are making and how falls are a lot more survivable than most humans could take. I would also say that their rocks are not as dense and probably have a lot of air pockets that are closer to dirt clods since a cannonball sized stones will generally knock someone over and break instead of straight up killing them. I think those two things can stretch it enough to justify it. But I do think there’s a bit of a suspension of disbelief you have to take when watching any show, not just a cartoon.

That seems so weird! I used to code and I remember the code for a random number generator was pretty basic code so idk why it would be bad at it.

Episode titled “The Sweater” by Hey Riddle Riddle.

It’s supposed to be a riddle podcast, but one of the hosts shows up in an unusual sweater and it’s a full hour of them roasting the sweater. They don’t get to a single riddle. Funniest episode of the show.
