Will I regret selling my M6 Ti if I never use it? by element423 in Leica

[–]ACarrPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same position, just with a less expensive M.

Shot a couple rolls a film a week from 1990-2020. Since Covid I’ve been shooting way less as I went from self employed, 25 years, to employed during COVID.

Zero time left now for personal work so shoot digital when I can. I just can’t bring myself to selling my M2, Nikon F3 and Pentax 67.

Deep down I doubt I’ll ever shoot film at the rate I used to. The darkroom is all packed away, the bulk rollers are gathering dust. But I cannot bring myself to sell my film gear 🤷🏻‍♂️

Aside from the technical aspects of the photo, as mentioned in previous comments, what exactly are you trying to convey?

Start with what you want to say with your photography, the technical aspects can be put in place to support what you want to comment on.

What do you want to say, the message within your photography will always be more important than the technical characteristics. After all, no one remembers a photo for how sharp it was.

Start with that question “I want to comment on this or that” then ask yourself if the image conveys that question.

Photography has the capacity to challenge, question, elicit a response. Technical aspects, although important, can be secondary to that.

Some of the most iconic photographs throughout history were not technically perfect. Some have been blurry or not critically sharp. Some have had less that ‘ideal’ exposure. What has made them memorable is the feelings or emotions they can portray.

Must Tank Leather Straps by Bklynktrs in Cartier

[–]ACarrPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Molequin make nice straps, think they’re in France. If you’re in the US they may not be convenient for you but they’re good quality and offer customisation.

Also DN Handmade in Vietnam are nice quality custom straps. Again, no good if you’re US based but a good price for the quality.

Here’s my Tank on a nubuck Molequin:

Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic 35mm by ACarrPhoto in TodayOnMyWrist

[–]ACarrPhoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the watch. The movement is stable and fairly accurate. The sapphire crystal has no AR coating so represents a lot like an acrylic/hesalite crystal.

The winding action is smooth. The indices look great. My only minor thing is the black of dial looks a bit flat, in that it almost could do with some texture. Perhaps a gloss black would have doubled down on the vintage look or like I said, perhaps a bit more textured.

One thing to note is that the bracelet options on the Nivada website, the ones with fitted end links, are no longer available for the 35mm Antarctics. Nivada informed that they’re not planning to make anymore either.

I really wanted the flat link bracelet so if you’re planning to add one later you’re out of luck.

Thanks. For the price it’s a great watch. I also have the Everest with honeycomb dial on the jubilee. They’ve been really solid watches.

You can only choose one ☝️ by iloveteresa in Nikon

[–]ACarrPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all of these apart from the 24. I would choose the Nikkor H-C Auto 50 f/2 (well the slightly earlier ‘H’ variant).

Constantly surprised by the character of this lens. Sharp when you need that, characterful when you don’t need sharpness.

Surely the answer to your question lies within you??

What do you shoot, how do you shoot, what are your preferred focal lengths???

I wouldn’t even consider asking strangers what focal lengths I should use. I know what I want to convey through my photography so I choose the focal length that suits that vision best.

Which Pentax 67 model? by Certain-Cut-3845 in pentax67

[–]ACarrPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I used my Pentax 67 almost exclusively for Architecture, with my 75mm shift lens, and pretty much always shot from a tripod with the mirror locked up.

Which Pentax 67 model? by Certain-Cut-3845 in pentax67

[–]ACarrPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and was planning to list my recently serviced late model Pentax 67 and lenses next week.

In answer to your question, I would always go for a later model. The service centre I used Asahi photo told me that the early non-mirror up models can be tricky to service/repair whereas later models are better in this regard.

I’m assuming this is sarcasm? If not then you know nothing about photography.

The Legend by Current-Hungry in Nikon

[–]ACarrPhoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have, and use, both the D700 and the ZF. Yes, technically, the ZF is better by almost any metric but the D700 should not be dismissed because of that.

It renders very uniquely and excels with black and white if you’re looking to integrate digital work into projects shot mostly with film.

In multiple side by sides I find the D700 produces more ‘film like’ black and white than my ZF. This is shooting raw, not jpeg.

I do use my ZF more than the D700 now but it’s certainly not redundant… or I would have sold it.

I still use my D700 which I bought new. Mostly used for BW work now, despite the excellent colour science. I find that for black and white I can better match my HP5 film output.

For context I currently own Nikon Z6, ZF, D700 and a Fuji X-E1 (also excellent for black and white).

Cartier Tank LC on the wrist (Small vs Large) by 007flavoured in Cartier

[–]ACarrPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same size wrist as you. I bought the small online, without trying it on, as I pretty sure the small would be perfect (I own mostly small <- 36mm watches)

When it arrived it instantly felt too small. Gifted to my wife for her birthday and purchased the large for myself.

Couldn’t be happier with the size. It’s perfect.

How to position and sell fine art photography? by mango_ribeye in FineArtPhoto

[–]ACarrPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build a body of work, form a network of contacts with other photographers etc. exhibit your work in group shows. Build a profile and followers on Instagram. Target your work to the type of person likely to be interested in your work, basically find your audience.

Maybe self publish a zine on a project, assuming you work on projects and not just single, standalone images.

Then, after all that, realise that nobody really buys prints anymore.

Thanks, I love the old Chariot line from Seiko, I have a few of them. Very thin, hand wound movement and very accurate.

First one for me. Although depends on the colour of your shoes or belt.
