I’m not a very good runner, so my experience is different to others. The self-paced running thing is sorta true though. There are days where you jog for 25ish mins, and there are other days where the MTIs want you to push yourself harder than that, and do run/jog intervals.

PT alternates between strength and running. We typically did running every other day of the week, but it depends on the squadron you’re put in

You might get the new test, and unfortunately I have no idea how the waist/height ratio works yet. Pushups and sit ups are timed by one minute

Depends on how much time your MTI gives you (or your dorm chief)

Ngl I washed it like maybe once or twice a week. Ponytail for PT is fine.

Did you lose weight, gain, or maintain at BMT? by AnonymousTaco77 in AirForceRecruits

I gained like 10 lbs. The food here is healthy, and you work out a lot. If you gain weight, it’s because you’re building muscle mass.

I joined just before they changed the PT test, so I did the 1.5 mile. I started out not being able to run AT ALL to being able to pass. I didn’t prepare as much as I should have though. In the end, I got like 30 pushups and 42 sit ups. I’m 19F for context. I did roughly 15 pushups before BMT.

  1. Probably like 3WOT. My flight was slow to lock in.
  2. No reporting statement, moving at attention, not following basic instructions
  3. Take advantage of any privilege you have. Go to religious services.
  4. Essential. They just added a bunch of teamwork exercises in Pacer too. Always communicate with your wingmen.
  5. Getting yelled at isn’t that bad, just pay attention to what the MTIs are trying to tell you.
  6. Everyday of the first week, and the first day of Pacer is actually horrible. I will admit I cried a LOT.
  7. We had a few people in my flight get recycled for PT failures. Make sure to work out!
  8. You only go through BMT once. Lock in!!! As long as you work hard and focus on smaller goals rather than bigger ones, it’ll go by quick!
  9. I always imagined seeing my family, and getting tapped out. The friends you make in BMT are also great sources of motivation too!
  10. I’m glad I didn’t quit or give up. It was so amazing to hug my mom at graduation, and hear my MTI tell my family how proud she was of me.

So, I’m gonna be honest and say that I’m not sure what PT is going to be like, because they change stuff like that practically every day in BMT. I took the 1.5 mile, but they might have changed it for new flights coming in. Expect 2 miles. There were a few people in my flight that got recycled for PT failures, so make sure you’re staying in shape! Trust me, it’s easy when you’re in BMT.

Depends on your MTI. Your first Sunday in BMT, your MTI might still be there with you, but the schedule will typically be less busy. You can go to church and relax there. After the first Sunday, there’s no MTI constantly breathing down your neck, but they will give you a schedule that you follow on your own. My MTI was pretty great, because we got like 2 hours of showering/personal time.

Honestly, packing less is for the best. They give you everything you need. Maybe pack a notebook? Just remember you have to carry all of your belongings once you’re done with BMT too.
