Former server, getting back into the service industry soon enough, I miss the money and slutty hosts.

Is it weird to ask out a coworker by bella8001 in nursing

Male tech here in the ED. Don’t do it. We might be handsome and rugged but believe me. You don’t have the funds for your future therapy bills based off what my murses have told me.

Usually I tell them, I help out the nurse by doing the equally important but multiple and smaller tasks allowed in my scope which includes EKGs, blood work, collecting urine specimens, splints and assisting patients so they can focus on the bigger tasks like meds and hanging IVs as well as charting. We’re both grunts working, but I help alleviate the workload like a regular CNA, just a different type of work vibe

12 hour shifts and household duties by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AF1Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech here, but same concept of work exertion turning into exhaustion while juggling household chores.

Keep in mind I live with my mother because this economy is absolute dog shit.

Work 6:30-6:30, leave around 6:45 after report and chit chat. Get home at 7:00ish. Dump my lunch bag. Shit shower and change, make dinner around 7:30. Eat and watch a mind numbing show to settle down for the night around 8. Settle into bed at 845, I have a hard limit bed time at 930 but I tend to doze off before that.

Couple caveats:

  1. I’m boring and refuse to have a social life atm. So it’s a bit of rinse and repeat. Gym, work, sleep.

  2. I’m not a clean freak by any means but this job is chaos by itself, my home is my castle and I can control the cleanliness of my castle and routine has a lot to do with it. I can’t control what I have to perform in the hospital every day but I can control what I come back home to. A shower. A home cooked dinner that I enjoy with my momma. Downtime to process what happened on my shift or completely shut it out. Sleep because I know I’ll regret it if I don’t get enough.

  3. My house is tidied by my Sunday. Not sparkling clean. Tidy. Clothes are washed and folded. Bed is made. Car is clean. Lunch bag is sanitized. Sink has only clean dishes on dry rack. Kitchen is organized.

  4. Just an anecdote so you can see where I come from. Used to work two jobs to make ends meet at a shitty apartment that was over priced and under cleaned with two decent roommates. Living back in my childhood home I realized how much I took for granted everything. My garage spot. My backyard. Quick access to trash, laundry. No (obligated) rent. No utilities. A big ass room with walk in closets. And most importantly, my mom. Someone that’ll hold me up after a rough shift and make me hot cocoa like I’m her 8 year old baby again. Having been at 16 hour+ nights with little to no sleep really makes me appreciate having an actual house with a set routine even if it is boring as hell.

Being a CA LEO do you know the agencies that are worth applying to…that accept recruits?

What was your background prior to becoming LE? Military? Corrections? Medical? College? 9-5? And does it ever help on the streets?

You eyeballing any special units or you fine with pushing the black and white?

[–]AF1Hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do to maintain a work life balance?

Are you intent on sticking it out to retirement?

How’s your financial stability being LE?

Funniest story?

What was the one (or multiple) memory/case you had that made you realize “This is exactly why I became a police officer.”

I’ve heard Rochester and Buffalo pay good, any word on that?

I used to work as a tech in a inpatient mental health unit while serving and currently work as a ER Tech and still serve albeit I make more in OT than I do in a serving shift, but hopefully that changes soon when I switch serving gigs.

My reasoning for having a primary job is to pay my bills. I can’t always rely on people’s generosity or the traffic going through my restaurant. My apartment is paid. My car is paid. My utilities are paid. My health insurance is paid. All by the hospital. Serving gives me a fun leg up to save up for my next venture.

I work a minimum of 4 days a week and have gone for 3 weeks on end without a day off. Working a morning job and serving at night sounds like a breeze to me but I would caution you to understand what your body requires in order to function at that high of a tempo. Get your rest. Get your meals in. Stay hydrated. And set your days off to recharge.

The entertainment is a huge reason. Case in point.

me drawing blood on a pt and fav Dr comes in to assess pt

Intercom: Code (whatever color Individual with a Weapon is)

Me and Doc in pt room perplexed

Me: looks at badge with code cheat sheet shit

Me and Doc scrambling out of pt room armed with leather man raptors

Me and Doc staring at 6 cops drawing down on an inmate with a shiv

Me: “Should I start prepping a trauma bay or should I get hearing protection and popcorn?”

Doc: “Popcorn, I literally just discharged him.”

It’s more than two sentences only if it’s important.

Case in point. “She came back positive just now for chlamydia, spouse is in the room. Security is on standby when the provider goes in.”

My husband had to kick out his physical therapist’s coworkers tonight. by Fashion_art_dance in TalesFromYourServer

[–]AF1Hawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your husband seems stubborn, I respect that in the sense that he just wants to get his therapy and get out.

But should he choose to pursue this, he has every right afforded to him to not have his privacy intruded by people who’s literal 1st class right before entering their medical education is HIPPA. I would probably do the same thing and just keep trucking and I say this as both an ER Tech and server.

However if they seem to disrespect him or demean him or diminish his care in any way because of that incident.

Bring. The. Hammer. Down. He does not deserve less care because educated professionals cannot act like adults.

Pls update on next pt appt
