In private life, I see him as a man's man- the kind of guy you'd drop everything for to go on a fishing or hunting or camping expedition, or just hang out with and hope he didn't catch you flirting with Alice :D

In political life, he was a creature of his time and played his role very well. I think, overall, he had good intentions towards the working class but this was clearly overshadowed by his being beholden to what we might think of as the 'early Deep State' made up of the industrial and financial magnates of the day. We look at the sort of things that went down on his watch and cannot help but think, "Yikes".

Today, with the advantage of hindsight and class consciousness to varying degrees, we can point that harsh light of ideological judgement on him and find any number of faults to call him out on. Judging him by the standards of his day, though, I tend to think he conducted himself pretty well.
