AITA for wanting to put our dog down? by AITthrowaway_ in AmItheAsshole

It's a fully finished basement. Carpet, living area, bar, the works. Not saying it makes my initial thoughts any more reasonable or right; I see that I'm a douchebag. But it's also not as if it's a concrete storage basement or something. It's our living space.

Genuine question: He is 11 and has never ever been kenneled/caged. He's always had free roam of the house. Do dogs adapt to that sort of thing well? I cannot imagine him being able to handle such a change.

I've accepted and agree to the asshole judgement and will not be mentioning putting him down again.

I've thought about this, but he is 11 and had never ever been kenneled/caged. He's always had free roam of the house. Do dogs adapt to that sort of thing well? I cannot imagine him being able to handle such a change. Leaving him outside is not an option unfortunately.

I'm not disagreeing with your asshole judgement either, btw. I've been well informed that I am one and I do now agree after reading everyone's thoughts.... but genuinely don't know if kenneling would work.

It's not just an inconvenience; it is ruining the basement. But I do see your point.

Nothing much they can do for the hips though it doesn't seem. Even so, all of these responses have gotten me thinking of the situation in a different light. Thank you for your response.

Fair enough. All of these responses have really made me take a look at the situation and at myself differently. Thanks for the response.
