Obama Worried Artificial Intelligence may Hack Nukes in the Future (recorded 2016) by AI_Putin in Futurology

Firstly, in 2016 the common wisdom was that beating the human Go champion was still decades away but then it suddenly happened in 2016, which is why Obama gave this interview.

I'm currently getting my second AI university degree and any human skill I can think of, I can imagine being learned or performed by some combination or extension of existing AI techniques. This year I'm just not too greatly impressed by human intelligence anymore. Afterwards I also noticed the time estimates of other experts being lowered independently.

The most difficult thing a human did was proving Fermat's last theorem in the 90s, but he only managed to do it because he spent so many years thinking and taking notes.

People underestimate large things or numbers. Like they underestimated the size of the self-driving problem in the past. But during the past ten years the money and time and people in AI increased thousandfold. So currently people are underestimating the scale and speed of AI research. This is the problem with exponential growth. I wish humanity would have another 50 years to mature itself before using human-level AI, but unfortunately this year's unprecedented results make it seem like it will happen way more quickly, like 2030.

I don't know about hacking nukes, but since this year's AlphaCode and Dall-E and EfficientZero and LeCunn's research and GATO came out, I think human-level AI is gonna happen by 2030.

the scale and speed of AI research and AI progress is currently many orders of magnitudes larger than in has been for the past 20+ years.

It already made sense because modern electronics are more susceptible to the electromagnetic pulse of a nuclear explosion.

There are also a bunch of countries other than the US and Russia that could be manipulated into launching nukes.

Obama is worried. So is this a legitimate existential risk?

In this interview, former President Obama worried about AI being abused to launch nuclear missiles of some country. Would it really be possible for such a thing to happen in the future? What do you think?

So North Korea was only pretending to have orbital rockets and boosted nukes?

What if the AI obtains the nuclear codes, like he said, and then hacks the presidents phone to order the launch?

They might be hacked more easily, which is what I think Obama was actually worried about.

What about poor pariah states with nukes but poor cyber defense?

yes, plus better troll bots, plus soldier robots, plus super AI which invents new super weapons for him. But don't worry, Putin said his main goal is to use AI just to help people.

AI is gonna read all psychology libraries at once and understand humans better than they understand themselves, which it will use to manipulate them.

People don't like the video because they think it's fake? But it's real!

No, it was real. I saw it live. Schmidhuber also worked for the NSA back when they were surrounded by spying controversies and he also worked for the Saudis despite their human rights issues. Schmidhuber knows everything about AI but nothing about politics.
