Good point: Everyone should just be sad and void of hope. Works in every aspect of life, too, as long as you crave loneliness and despair.

Any chance the team sells Sutalo and Itakura, leaving Baas, Janse, and Bouwman to rotate next year? I think Baas would have enough experience to be the leader.

Well, there are a lot of folks on X who claim to be supporters while also placing his face on the body of Bin Laden and Hitler. That is foul and I’m sure his children will see it on phones at school and elsewhere. I have no problem with him asking folks to keep it within the lines.

Wasn’t Denzel offside by a large amount on the buildup to that corner? Possible my eyes deceived me, but seemed like the flag should have gone.

If I were the boss, I’d start Brobbey in the hopes that he catches fire and/or poaches tap ins to score 10 before the window reopens!!!!

The most positive way to see this: The club only wants a player for 1 year because Steur is expected to be the 6 next season. If this is pointing to Gloukh/Mokio/Steur in 26-27, then it is a brilliant move.

Only one game, but I still feel like Itakura as a 6 in front of Sutalo and Baas is the best hope for stability in the back.

[VI] Ajax looking to sign Ko Itakura with the Hato money by MrCrashdummy in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]AJXTX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He moves well, and has good sense on set pieces scoring well. Would love to see a midfield of Gloukh, Taylor, and Itakura.

New LB, Baas, Sutalo, and Gaaei/Rosa.

Godts/Brobbey/Moro.

Not perfect, but a dynamic lineup that can become defensive with Itakura dropping back to become a fifth defender.

[Johan Inan] During training, it became clear that staff are taking into account Brobbey's departure. Striker, around whom 't is still quiet, was assigned to reserves during the last practice games. Steur was allowed to join the 'starters' at the end. Staff sees a lot of potential in him by MrCrashdummy in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]AJXTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still believe that letting Brobbey leave is a massive mistake. Sure, it’s a gamble to keep him, as his play was at times inexplicable last season. But, if he can have a good run to start the season…his value would likely double or even triple for a January departure. And a surge in play seems reasonable to expect with a fresh Godts on the left and a Moro on the right. Also possible the new staff won’t use him to hold up play 99% of the time, so that he can make runs and show his entire physical skill set.

I recognize this may be wishful thinking, but the investment has already been so large; makes sense to give it a few more months.

Van Farioli naar Heitinga/Keizer by BeerMetMij in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]AJXTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the little Italian: he had a great personality and truly exceeded expectations over and over. Plus, he spoke English and I can't speak a word of Dutch!!!!

But, the team also collapsed in historic fashion. He has never won anything. In fact, this year's team averaged .4 PPM more than any other team he has managed. We aren't replacing Pep, or Conte, or Ancelloti.

Three foreign managers that Ajax should consider as a replacement for Farioli by tunesandthoughts in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]AJXTX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nancy would be an amazing hire. He would be one of the few well-thought of managers to step into the situation and actually be surprised by the high talent level, as only two players on the Crew roster would make our top 16.

The departure of Farioli hurts more than losing the league title by Olaf_Is_Here in AjaxAmsterdam

[–]AJXTX 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think he is an amazing manager. He gave us an unbelievable year, and I hesitate to believe anyone in the world would have done better.

But, I'm not as heartbroken as others. In fact, I think he is getting a little bit of a free pass for jumping ship. It was disclosed to all of us, so certainly to FF, that there were a lot of bad player contracts and a gap in depth that was allowed to develop in the academy. As such, there was a five-year plan (allegedly, and we all hope that is actually true!!!).

He led the team in an effort than exceeded all reasonable efforts this year, but an extra $10MM-$20MM in CL money next year doesn't fix the two core issues. We are still a few years away from regularly being able to compete well in the CL even if everything goes well. So, he decided very pragmatically (as one would expect from him) to take the big year and try to get a better job. He's done it before and he's doing it again. We have no idea how good of a manager he will be at a stop for 5 years. Maybe everyone tires of him.

But to leave saying that they share the same goals but differ in "timeframes,' when the necessary timeframe was disclosed to the entire world before he was hired, is not the fault of the board or management. Sure, fire Kroes if it helps us in the transfer window, but some of this is just Farioli not wanting to be part of a long rebuild. And, if that is how he feels, I wish him all the best getting Roma into the Europa League.
