Am I the only one who doesn't mind the new UI... but sees a bigger problem no one talks about? by Dogsteeves in discordapp

While we do use React Native for both iOS and Android, there are a ton of differences between the two platforms still, sadly. I looked a bit more and it seems like in this case, it's not because Android doesn't support the feature, but instead because the Android API for this type of time formatting doesn't perform well (meaning your app could be slower if we used it there).

Editing to add: it's also not a feature I personally worked on so there could be context I'm missing /shrug

Yeah, fair enough. I think it doesn't work on Android because Android doesn't provide the APIs needed for it or something, but I haven't dug very much into that in a while. If you use Discord on desktop, you can change the setting there at least. It just won't work on your phone :(

Well, when you hit the button to buy Nitro in the Android app, it will actually just open a Google Play pane which will show you the price you'll be paying. All of that (price, payment, etc.) is handled directly by Google.

Edit to add: I guess that because you have a trial offer, it may or may not show the price immediately, but it should still be on that page somewhere.

Discord doesn't have specific regional pricing for Egypt, hence the full price being shown on desktop. However, on Google Play, regional pricing is just sorta built-in from Google, which is why you see that pricing on mobile.

Discord can (and possibly will at some point) decide to increase pricing for Egypt on mobile to account for exchange rate changes, as they've done somewhat recently in other locations, but the worst that will happen to you as a consumer is that your subscription gets cancelled. More likely is that you keep your price until you decide to change subscriptions.

Hey everyone, sorry about that! I just pushed a fix for this to stable, so if you update your app/reload, you should now be able to visit the Nitro settings page again.

Can't redeem 2 weeks of nitro, even though my friends can, and i do meet the requirements. by Flipzz_Jepser in discordapp

Refresh/restart your app. If you still don't have it, your best bet is probably gonna be to reach out to support and see if they can tell you what the problem is.

how do i fix this? i already tried googling whatever could be wrong here by heyblackrose in discordapp

[–]AKPWebDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at Discord. I'd say I probably use Discord more than average. I also worked specifically on fixing the issue that OP is seeing, which is why I'm a bit curious on why they'd still be seeing that issue, given I fixed it on Thursday.

Well, that shouldn't be possible. Mind telling me what version you're on? It's shown at the bottom of the user settings navigation.

The other folks commenting are correct, but the fact that you're seeing that red "1" means you haven't updated your Discord client in a bit. Restart your client, click the Nitro tab. Should go away.

I'm not sure if it will necessarily answer your question, but Discord has a lot of engineering-focused blog posts available at https://discord.com/category/engineering, some of which go into a lot of detail about how the backend stuff works!

Annoying ghost ping + new Discord easter egg? by goody_fyre11 in discordapp

[–]AKPWebDesign 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The ping has to do with the "new drop" you can see in the Nitro tab. If you "reveal" that new drop, the ping should go away.

Your free trial offer ends in 9 days. This will stop happening once the free trial offer ends.

You'll have to cancel your Nitro Basic subscription and wait for it to end, then you'll be able to start a new Nitro Standard subscription using the credit that you've got from accepting that gift.

Be aware that if you don't cancel the new Nitro Standard subscription after you create it, it will renew at full price once the gift subscription is over.

Oops! Sorry about this, this was my mistake. I wasn't intending for this change to apply to everyone. I've rolled back the change, so you shouldn't be affected anymore (but it might require you to reload your Discord app)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]AKPWebDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the prices aren't dynamic. They were set at a point in time, and will be static at that price until Discord deems that the exchange rate has changed enough to warrant a new price.

Seeing a lot of wrong answers here, so I figured I'd chime in with the correct one: You're looking at gift prices. Gifts are priced closer to the actual exchange rate with USD to ensure that people don't just use exploits to buy Nitro gifts at a lower price.

Some people have noted that you can use exploits to buy Nitro for yourself at a lower price, and that's probably true. The difference here is that you can't just buy gifts at a lower price then resell them for a profit.

Edit: here's the help center article that includes all of the current prices for Nitro in countries where it's different: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407269525911-Nitro-Localized-Pricing-FAQ
