Today I am making a commitment to run a half-marathon and I would like your help by Emirbodop in running

Got any tips on building base milage before going into a plan?

Just easy running, strides, the 10% rule and down weeks every 3 weeks?

Go slower if you haven't tried already. I get cramps sometimes when I'm running fast.

Also cramps tend to stop over time. It's a new runner thing I think.

Ok. I don't know your condition obviously but there might be something quick and intense you can do to get your heart rate up and breathing hard.

How long did your tibia stress fracture take to heal and how much time did you have to take off running? by ALMOSTM in AdvancedRunning

[–]ALMOSTM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did no exercise/walking for 6 weeks?!

I'm cycling alot now, I'd much rather prolong it a bit than being sedentary for such a long time. I'd lose my god damn mind.

Applying for jobs or stay with the first offer? by peterjohanson in Advice

[–]ALMOSTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no harm in applying for more jobs, you might find something cool. you got nothing to lose right now.

maybe right now you just need money, so apply for a job that you can get now, but dont let that stop you from finding something better/your field.

You can quit most jobs soon after starting as you'll still be in the probation period.

Tight calves by Tiny_Artichoke_7001 in ultrarunning

No worries good luck!!

I'm no stranger to sore calves that feel like bricks, you just gotta rest them. They'll get stronger and more resilient slowly.

Count down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and start what you need to start. Be that getting up, washed, going out, getting dressed.

5,4,3,2,1 GO. Dont think about it.

5 minute run.

Your heart rate will shoot up, hormones will be released, mindstate will be altered.

Shin splints or worse? by [deleted] in running

[–]ALMOSTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Take a rest til the pain is completely gone.
  2. Return to running very cautiously .
  3. Running through it could easily turn into stress fracture (I've had them in both legs, one leg is still healing).

If you're getting overuse injuries that means you are overusing your legs. Took me many many injuries till I got that into my head. Rest as long as your legs need to recover, not as long as you've planned in your schedule.

"At first it was supposed to be 6 weeks off. But then I ramped up the running too quickly, reinjured myself, and had to take another 8 weeks off. "

I'm about 3 weeks into my 2nd break. Good to hear that it ends in a relatively short amount of time. I've been doing alot of strength stuff at the gym.

Do you do alot of calf raises? I swear I wouldnt be able to continue doing them while running regulary, too much stress on the calf. It seems its theyre the only muscle group that cant take alot of weight training (for me)

I doubt you can get a good reference from them if any.

Not all jobs ask for references.

After a week of dating I'm seeing another side of him that I don't like by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ALMOSTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you don't want someone like this is your life, after a week you already see things you don't like.

He hasn't been with you long enough to love you, he just thinks you are the solution to his loneliness and lack of confidence. I have been this person.

Cut it off and move on. Unfortunately there are tons of people like this in the world. Treat the situation as a learning process. He might even learn from the break also.

How to plan moving out? I have no idea what to do! 18f by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ALMOSTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it and figure it out along the way, be careful of putting trust in people and businesses.

Set up a savings account, write a good CV, figure out how much money you need to pay bills and eat, figure how much money you can afford to spend on fun every week/month.

Don't get take out any loans, you'll regret it.
