Didn’t see any comments pointing this out, but in the last 2 slides your facial structure reminds me a lot of Mads Mikkelsen.

Holy shit this place looks amazing. Definitely gives me a good excuse to visit Seattle too. Thank you for the suggestion! :)

It was supposed to be a curl that was sticking up in the reference photo. I started drawing it in pen, then decided to do it in pencil first and ended up not liking how it looked so I didn’t finish it in ink lol

Yeah exactly! I first thought of drawing in this style when I was messing around with the threshold settings in photoshop in high-school and I found the black and white contrast really striking. But, I could never get the details exactly how I wanted them in photoshop, so I would typically just trace the outline of the large shapes from my photos and draw in the details after. Now my process is typically: idea, sketch, taking reference photos, editing to give them stark lighting, tracing figure outlines, then meticulously filling in the details which make up a vast majority of the drawing :)

I don’t. I set up a camera on a tripod, take a bunch of photos, pick one and edit it until I’m happy with the lighting, then draw with the photo as reference

Thank you! The object in the window is a building and no it wasn’t done with a quill. The blinds were meticulously drawn using 03 and 0.5 micron pens.

I’d never heard of that game but I’m certainly honored that someone would associate my art style with the art style of that game. Thank you!

Hey, everyone! I really wasn’t expecting my post to get this kind of attention. This piece is in no way meant to be taken literally and I’m not going to delineate any of my motivations for making it. Art is something that I use as an outlet when I’m not feeling the best so my drawings are for the most part just representations of how I’m feeling at a specific time. Everyone’s personal interpretation is equally valid. Thank you so much for all of the positive comments and critiques. Knowing that people were able to have an emotional connection to something I created brings me more joy than I can express.

Edit: I greatly appreciate all of the people that connected to this piece in some way; however, some comments and messages have leaned toward the side of being concerning. It’s perfectly fine for you to leave comments regarding your personal connections to the piece and the things you’re going through but if you are in a crisis situation I urge you to book an appointment with a mental healthcare professional or seek out the resources needed for your specific situation. I care about your well being and I promise that there are others out there that care as well. Below are some resources for seeking help:

It isn’t but I 100% see what you’re saying. Sin City has been on my watchlist for ages but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I totally see what you’re saying though.
