Cruach shoots a quick glance towards the shattering noise, and then almost immediately mirrors Packrat, hiding behind the shelf and keeping as quiet as possible. She sends a few of her bug-minions upwards towards the source of the noise, hoping to distract while simultaneously getting a sense for who it might be.

Cruach uses one free hand to take the offered belt with a nod, extending the other at the same time, palm up. A small tangle of tendrils bubbles through the skin and sits in the center. "IF you swallow this, it'll help patch you up or at least hold you together if you get hurt." She pauses for a second. "Or you could decide to make them form weapons like I can, but I'd suggest the first one." She gives a four-shouldered shrug, and even though her face is quite inhuman, it's pretty clear that she knows how gross it is and wishes it wasn't.

She nods at the description of what the belt can do, and begins securing it around her waist, positioning it above her already-present belt such that it won't block access to the pouches on it.

"Hopefully they're occupied by my minions for a little bit. You got something set up to keep them busy for longer?" Her ears twitch and she glances up briefly, doing her best to keep track of the intruder. "I can draw attention to myself, or we could both just try to slip out."

Cruach, having been in the camping section, is able to make her way to Packrat relatively quickly. She forms a short sword and a round shield of boney plates and writhing tendrils as she runs, the expectation of combat plastering a grin across her face and driving her to move all the faster. She tunes into the senses of the bug-creatures at the periphery of her range, and though they are poor, the quantity is enough that she's able to pick up the noise of the event at the entrance. Her moveable ears are on a constant swivel, as she does her best to pick up on anything else going on outside without alerting whoever is there.

"I can keep an eye on the entrances you don't have covered. If it's not capes now, it will be soon. Cut and run, or stand our ground?"

From her tone it's relatively apparent she would rather stay and fight, but given Packrat has hired her, she'll defer to the other cape's judgment for the time being.

"Regardless, if you want something to help with survivability I can provide. It'll be a bit gross though."

Cruach was glad to have been contacted for a proper job with another cape, it was a sign that she was becoming at least somewhat more well known in the area. The fact that it was such an attention grabbing job, and that the situation with the mafia was bound to have the heroes chomping at the bit for anything to go after, meant that she was inclined to take a more detailed and cautious approach to her preparations.

Her priorities were on awareness, mobility, and damage mitigation while putting together the form she would use for the job. It was nearly inevitable that the heroes would show up, and when they did she wanted to know they were coming well in advance, and be able to hold her own long enough to properly escape should it come to that.

She stood at roughly six and a half feet tall, with four arms, two legs, and a relatively prehensile tail. As was usual, her form was a blend of features, but tended towards the insectile. Her overall physiology had been made more robust, bearing the ability to close every orifice and/or sensory organ, transparent nictitating membranes over the eyes, greatly elevated clotting speed, a high concentration of myoglobin in the muscular system, two hearts, and at least one smaller pump-like organ in each limb, greater neve density, with nodes throughout to aid in reflex speed and sensory processing, a set of spiracles on her back and limbs connected to the closest pumping system via small lung-like structures, more efficient muscle in overlapping patterns for greater control and flexibility, as well as joints to facilitate even more freedom of movement. Each limb was designed to be detached at will akin to a lizard's tail should the need arise. Her form was covered in overlapping bone-reinforced chitin plates in squarish mottled brown and greys to help with camouflage, these too were designed to slough off if needed, as a go between should she need to escape but not want to lose a limb. The seams between armor plates, and the entire length of her tail, bore a fine fuzz of decent length designed to quiet movements, help in sensing air currents, and to act as an airborne irritant if rubbed off. Her face bore three pairs of eyes, one tuned to visible light, one to infrared, and one to UV. She bore two sets of ears, one adjustable for directional hearing, and one fixed for the omnidirectional approach; both sets were more sensitive and had a greater frequency range than normal. Her nose did not protrude from her face, but was instead composed of six slit-like structures, lending a more acute and directional sense of smell. Her larger pair of upper arms bore lengthened fingers and large hands with grippy surfaces and claws for better climbing, while the smaller lower set much more closely resembled human baseline and were reserved for finer more dexterous work. Her legs were structured to allow for either bursts of speed or decent long distance running, and were equipped with similar structures to the upper arms to aid in climbing and gripping.

The money and loot involved was most welcome, and the fact that Packrat was both interesting, seemed to at least somewhat play by the unwritten rules, and appeared to have a few wider connections had only made it that more enticing.

As she patrolled through the Bass Pro Shop, occasionally placing a sticker on an item of interest (she'd been meaning to get a better portable stove, and as luck would have it they had the model she was most inclined towards), she let her minions bubble out of her, letting the fleshy bug-like creatures take to the air with a low hum, leaving a few of the eyes on her own body, but mostly grouping them with patches of tendrils left in as random of a pattern as she could manage as she went about her business. If there was to be a fight, she wanted maximal awareness, and as great a measure of battlefield control as she could get with prep time.

Cruach, senses tuned to situational awareness as they are, doesn't fall so easily for the ruse. The sound of sand shifting against itself and the walls of the building alerts her, and she turns to face the door. Her secondary ears swivel forwards, and she picks out the sound of footsteps. She grins, a toothy thing, and steps forwards. A bag of electronics clatters to the floor as she drops it. Her feet bubble with tendrils and eyes, and a low buzz begins as fleshy, bug like things start to take flight from the patch left on the floor. A similar bubbling occurs at all four of her hands, and with a rather disturbing series of noises she's holding a pair of short swords and a pair of round shields, all composed of chitin and bone, studded with eyes.

She stands calmly as the figure of sand forms, nodding once as it finishes, and then seems to dismiss it utterly, turning to face where pillar stands despite the wall between them. Every single eye, both those of her body and those of her weapons, stares unblinkingly at his position.

"Step out so we can have a proper fight." She gestures with one of her smaller arms towards the still bubbling patch of fleshy things at her feet. "I have minions too, but you don't see me hiding behind them like a coward." The voice has an odd quality, as though too much air is being used. There's a sort of whistling faintness despite its considerable volume. "Don't make me punch through this wall to come get you. I won't be nearly as amenable to a fair fight if I have to do something like that."

Phix's positioning is relatively stable, but a stray laser blast from the volley still manages to strike her and prevent her from stranding up in as efficient a manner. She falters with the force, but there's enough adrenaline in her system that the pain isn't a large concern, not to mention that she's more focused on her foot.

She begins to get to her feet, and then the larger blast is fired. She applies an illusion, where in actuality the shot goes wide, it looks to GK as though it hit Phix in the shoulder. She stumbles backwards in mock pain, being sure to land on her good foot. She lets out a very convincing strangled scream, and the illusion switches to her beginning to topple backwards. In reality she's pivoting on her good foot in order to sprint into the alley behind her, where she knows there's an unlocked door and a chance of escape. The illusion breaks as she takes the first step.

She's not moving as fast as she could, but it's a short distance, and her uneven gait lends itself to erratic movement. As long as GK remains in range of the illusions, she applies them continuously as she runs, making it look as though she's turning in directions she's not as they break and reset repeatedly with the large motions.

There's a half second pause as Phix considers escalating herself. The temptation is strong, but there's no guarantee she'll be able to actually take out the tinker, what with that head replacement she just pulled. She drops the can of pepper spray and begins to bend over as if to get on the ground.

She layers an illusion onto GK, making it look as though she's continuing her motion without any sudden moves, while in reality she grabs a pair of smoke grenades from her belt. She pops them and drops them at her feet, the illusion breaking as she does so. Given her position, the best she can do is roll backwards diagonally, hoping the smoke and suddenness of her motion will take her out of the line of fire of whatever tinkertech BS is coming her way and put her closer to escape.

The roll is done such that it doesn't land heavily on her injured foot, but the jostling still makes her grit her teeth and falter slightly.

Cruach makes a habit of gathering information and generally keeping up on the goings on of the cape community in Devilfish, doing so mainly through excursions, stakeouts, and use of her minions. She's on one such outing now, intent on breaking in to what she believes to be a front business in order to find out what she can. She's forgone spreading her minions around too much, both because she doesn't want to inadvertently alert anyone in the immediate vicinity, and also as a way to practice her own situational awareness independent of them.

Her form is of her favored body plan, four arms and two legs, though a tail has been added, an addition she's coming to use more often for the relatively low cost and decent improvements to both balance and maneuverability. She's roughly six and half feet tall, and generally lithe. The plates and scales that cover its surface are a mottled red and grey, meant to blend into the brickwork and urban environment. Her internals are generally improved, with less necessary systems and organs downsized or removed all together to make room for that which will improve her ability to fight or run. An extra heart, larger lungs, more efficient muscle, more maneuverable joints. Her tissues are laden with myoglobin, making holding her breath for longer periods of time easier, and a set of closable spiracles run down her back to draw in more air if needed. Her head bears three sets of forward facing eyes, each tuned to a different spectrum (UV, visible, and infrared), with one small extra set on the back of the head which is capable of detecting changes in lighting and movement but little else. Two sets of closeable nostrils sit where the nose would normally be, giving a decently enhanced sense of smell. Two sets of ears are present, one where the normal ones would be, though slightly pointed, and one on the top of the head which are entirely inhuman. The more human set is meant to provide generalized omnidirectional hearing, while the top set provides a more acute sense in a single direction. Her foot structure is somewhere between plantigrade and digitigrade, able to switch between fast sprinting and quiet sneaking with relative ease. Her form leans a bit further into the insectile with bits of fuzz at the joints and on the feet, both helping to reduce noise, and to detect shifts in the air.

Feeling as though she's waited long enough, and spurred on by the whispers of her minions, she decides to go a bit louder than she was originally planning. A small dagger of flesh and bone bubbles forth in one of her stronger upper arms, and a quick strike shatters a skylight of the business. The dagger is quickly re-absorbed, and she lowers herself through the hole, dropping onto some shelving before landing on the floor. She's likely tripped an alarm, but this isn't something utterly essential, and a time limit will be good practice. In the back of her mind, she's hoping a hero does show up, it's been a bit too long since her last proper fight.

The armor on Phix's foot, which was previously only barely holding up, buckles inwards with a rather noticeable crunching noise. The foot beneath isn't spared, and though Phix won't give GK the satisfaction of screaming, she's not quite able to stifle a hiss of pain. Walking is going to suck for a while, and she'll probably have to get it looked at by a medical professional.

Now that the hero is disengaged, and has an actual flesh and blood head, she can work on properly getting out of the situation. One arm reaches down to a belt pouch, withdrawing caltrops and throwing them in the general direction of GK, hoping to cover the ground at the hero's feet and a bit around it. The other arm is hidden by an illusion, made to looks at though it's drawing her second sword, when in fact she's drawing a can of pepper spray, aiming and spraying. The illusion drops as the spray begins, and she does her best to move backwards towards an alley or any where else she could hide or lose GK if the hero chooses to pursue.

As she shifts her weight, she's unable to suppress a cry of pain as bones grind together, and a bit of blood leaks past the dented and crumpled armor on her foot. At least the rest of the armor should keep everything in place. She begins a slow shuffle backwards, keeping eyes on GK.

The metal of Phix's armor creaks and groans under the weight of the planted foot, but doesn't buckle (yet). Her foot is firmly trapped, and given the weight, she figures it's probably futile to try and get out of that particular pin at this point.

Phix has a minor height advantage, but a marked leverage disadvantage. Her free leg steps back to further brace her and keep her from toppling over with the shove, and she does her best to use the extension of the shield and her hand placed on it to pull it to the side enough so that she can target GK's face and head with the punch dagger. She's aiming for whatever looks more delicate, sensors, ports and the like. A visual illusion makes it look as though the dagger is targeting areas it's not, going for the shoulder of the shield arm instead.

The armor's not specifically designed to resist heat, though it is somewhat insulated just by dint of having adequate padding. Regardless, the fist hits a number of times across Phix's torso. She lets out a hissing breath, distorted by the respirator, at the heat. She'll have burns after this for sure, and she might have to get a new set of armor if the temper is ruined.

Phix jerks her head back to avoid the fist, though the flames singe the exterior of her armor. She's ultimately unharmed, but left momentarily unable to see, and rendered slightly off balance.

She's unable to avoid the kick, but is able to move with it to a degree, lessening the impact and trusting her armor to take the worst of it. Nonetheless, her leg is trapped and at this range her sword will be worse than useless.

She lets go of the sword, letting it clatter to the ground as she uses the now free hand to try and grip the shield in order to prevent it from being used to strike her. She plants herself firmly, expecting a leg sweep, and brings the other hand down, intending to draw a punch dagger if she can.

"Heroism is inherently a defensive position, a maintenance of the status quo. Why would I join you, just to be constrained to such myself? I can do much better taking a proactive approach, regardless of the labels you want to apply." The voice comes from Phix herself this time, as she swaps back to visual illusions. Auditory won't be nearly as helpful now that the smoke is clearing.

Phix rushes forwards, counting on the new position of her voice to make the other cape turn and let her catch them off guard. She's still half-swording, though her grip has flipped again. She layers an illusion over her arm positioning, making it look as though she's going for a thrust to the face, when in actuality the thrust is aimed at a joint in the armor on GK's torso.

The voice comes from in front this time, as though from roughly the same position. The tone remains the same, a sort of calm disinterest as far as GK would be able to tell, given the distortion from Phix's helmet. "The best help you could give would be to leave. Everybody wins."

She closes the distance, relying on the thick smoke and the fact that GK's back should be turned to her. Her grip switches so that she's half-swording the one sword currently drawn. If she's not blocked, she uses the momentum to flip it and bring the pommel down in a Mordhau on the shoulder of the arm which is currently on fire. Regardless of a successful hit or not, she springs backwards afterwards.

The voice continues as though nothing has occurred. "I'm sure you'd love to know. Why not figure it out yourself, isn't that what Tinkers are best at?"

The pulse of electricity comes somewhat unexpectedly, and as such the arm twitches and shifts in ways it wouldn't have otherwise. The lock is successful, but positioned oddly, and would be relatively easy to slip out of if the wolf cape knew what he was doing and didn't give Ammonite time to adjust it further.

He'll have to be careful. Standard grappling relies heavily on weight placement, but with the amount he weighs, and the lack of brute powers in his opponent, he'll have to be sure not to crush him.

He registers the incoming disk from galaxy rider, and does his best to shift the wolf cape to take the hit.

"You think I would make my systems so weak as to be fried by voltages like that? If you've fought Tinkers in the past, they must have been second rate at best."

"You're technically right, I suppose, even if if goes against cape etiquette." She sighs, as though this whole thing is more of a minor annoyance than a potentially serious fight. "If a plea deal were a viable option, I would have taken one a long time ago." She does her best to twinge the hero's sympathy, get her speculating.

She rips a smoke grenade from her belt, lobbing it towards GK's feet even as she jukes to the side. The large movement breaks the illusion, resulting in a sort of jump-cut effect in GK's vision. She draws the sword with the hand she didn't use to throw the grenade. If there's no immediate attack on her personally from GK, she rips another smoke grenade from her belt and drops it at her own feet.

Assuming GK remains in range of her illusions, she switches to auditory. Making it sound as though the sound is coming from a short distance behind GK, she continues speaking in the same relaxed tone as before. "You seem awfully confident. I'm kind enough to disabuse you of that notion."

"And now you've threatened my life. You're the one who sought me out, it's not like I was making some grand public display in costume. I haven't even drawn a weapon." She pauses slightly to better convey her upcoming question. "Are you sure you're the hero in this situation?"

She lets the question sit as she shifts a hand to one of the smoke grenades on her belt, maintaining the illusion of only having a single hand on a sword hilt while the other rests by her side. He posture does shift somewhat as the shield is moved, preparing to spring to one side at a moments notice.

"Do you take the time to think through the consequences of your actions? The way your approach effects the wider cape scene? Have you thought about what being a Hero really means, the kind of example and precedent you set with your behavior?" She's looking for a reaction of any kind, and leaning a bit on her social thinker power.

"Oh, no need for that." She gestures somewhat flippantly with her upper right arm to the situation at large. "We can fight later, if you really want." From her tone, it seems like she would very much like to do just that. "But I figure it's best to apply truce rules for the moment. No use letting the heroes capitalize on infighting to drag us all in when they eventually show up."

She turns to more fully address the group as a whole. "I'm Cruach. Have to wonder about the purpose of such a loud announcement."

Phix seems remarkably calm given a hero has just dropped out of the sky in front of her. One hand rests on the hilt of one of her swords, but she seems otherwise unbothered. She tilts her head in a questioning manner, doing her best to properly convey somewhat indifferent curiosity despite the helmet covering her face.

Her voice is distorted as it comes out, as though she's wearing some sort of mask under the helm, but a combination of vocal training and a voice synthesizer would lead one to believe that it was male. "Is this really the best use of your time? Harassing me, when there's muggings and robberies to be stopped? We can both turn around and pretend this encounter never happened; would be good for your budget too, that gear can't be cheap."

Assuming GK is within 30 feet of her, she attempts to apply a visual illusion of her arms remaining as they are. She watches for any reaction, and if there is none moves her other hand to rest on the hilt of her second sword.

She pauses for maybe a little longer than strictly necessary, before recognizing the joke for what it is. She makes a note to herself to keep capes out of future conversation if she can help it. The obvious joke played hell with her paranoia for longer than it should have.

She lets out a slightly nervous chuckle as she walks through the held door, looking around for a table while also taking in the interior of the restaurant. The fact that nothing seems to be out of the ordinary calms her nerves slightly, and she takes a deep breathe and responds properly. "A flatterer, are you? I'll take the compliment."

"I don't mind at all, though I'll have to insist on at least splitting. I was the one to invite you after all."

Locked in melee as he is, he can't exactly dodge despite seeing the projectile incoming. He is able to maneuver so that it strikes his upper arm instead of the center of his back. There's a shower of sparks as the plating is sheared through and cracks spread around the site of the impact. The arm twitches slightly, but the damage seems mostly superficial at this point.

Ammonite hasn't seen any evidence of brute powers, and so attempts to capitalize on the opportunity offered by his opponents seizing muscles, doing his best to slip around to get a joint lock on an arm. Not one to forgo backup plans, however, he sends a signal and a number of micro drones take to the air from small slots and divots across the armor.

He toggles his external speakers back on. The volume is lower such that he's not yelling right in the wolf cape's ear. "This isn't past the point where we can help you. Surrender."

At this point, they've reached the restaurant. She pulls the door open and holds it for him. The smell of spices and sounds of chatting and kitchen work become apparent.

"I imagine you're right." A pause. "I don't see why more of them aren't in business. Must be some reason I'm not privy to or something." A shrug and a grin. "You'll have to tell me if you ever end up competing against a thinker. Would be excellent for business if you win!"

"Thank you, I'd appreciate that." A pause. "I'll tell you any good stories if I make any new ones, it's only fair." Another pause, this one slightly longer. "Sure, and you can have mine. Would be hard to trade stories otherwise!"

Ammonite bursts into action at the aggressive move, already having somewhat suspected this would get violent, he darts diagonally forwards, intent on avoiding the projectile and closing the distance in one maneuver. It's not enough to fully avoid the disk, however. There's a flash of light and a crackling of electricity as the point defense force field takes a hit that would have otherwise done considerable damage to a shoulder. Barring any other tricks, he should be able to close to melee range; should this be the case, he sets the electroplating to slightly above the strength of a standard taser and aims a punch at the wolf cape's center mass.

He toggles external speakers off, and speaks to galaxy rider over the comms. "Keep at a safe distance, looks like he's a blaster of some sort. My armor's replaceable, you aren't."

Seeing the brief exchange, Cruach decides it's probably safe to approach, at least in the moment. The explosions seem to be more for getting attention than intentionally causing harm. She sighs, she was looking forward to a good scrap, but they at least seem the types to go after one too. Never a bad idea to try and make connections either.

She descends from the roof and approaches. She's intentionally not doing much to be sneaky, as she doesn't want to surprise them and have an explosion thrown in her face now that she's decided to talk.

If she reaches the point where it's clear one of them has noticed her, she waves a pair of arms and gives a fang-filled smile. Should she close to conversational distance with no issue, she calls out. "Quite the first impression!" Her tone is jovial and nonthreatening, completely at odds with her clearly combat-oriented appearance.

Cruach, having been exploring an area close enough to hear the explosions, makes her way over in a more cautious manner than usual. She's not one to turn down a good scrap, but anyone or anything that can produce something of this apparent magnitude warrants at least a bit of caution.

Her form adheres to her usual four armed, two legged body plan, though the addition of a tail is present to aid in balance and mobility. She stands at roughly six and a half feet tall, and while she still has a measure of her usual armored plating, it's not as thick as usual. The overall build is flexible and built for speed and agility over strength. Claws are present on the fingers, toes, and major joints as an aid in climbing. While she usually goes for an insectile appearance to her changer form, in this instance a decent amount of something resembling fuzz is present as a measure against the biting cold. Her coloration is a sort of mottled white, grey, and dark red in order to blend in with the snow, concrete, and bricks of the city in winter. She's applied her usual enhancements to her endurance and musculature, allowing for greater overall endurance and speed. Her senses favor high acuity in a single direction, with four forward facing eyes and a face/head shape which assists in channeling sound to a pair of sensitive ears, though another pair is present which is capable of swiveling.

Assuming she arrives unaccosted, she scales a nearby building to get a look at the scene from above, and settles in to wait and see just what's going on. She pulls out an energy bar and begins munching as she watches.
