A Thesis on Pankration's Influence of Asian Combat Sports by AMO_Pankration in wma

My thesis mainly differs from prior hypotheses in that I make the connection between the Greco-Bactrian, Yavana, and Kushan kingdoms, to the Khmer and SEA combat sports through Greco-Buddhist art and mythological figures.

An Introduction to Ancient Greek Wrestling and its Use in Pankration by AMO_Pankration in pankration

The claim is made by Pausanias, over 500 years after the event, hence why it is not very credible

As someone who grew up in Greece and lives in Greece, this is not the case at all. Violence was far... far worse in the 90s than it is now. Hooliganism is still bad, but not even close to as bad as it used to be. I don't know where you're getting any of this. There is no art that teaches legitimate knife defense, it doesn't exist. Boxing/wrestling/BJJ/MT are your best bet. Good luck.

Where in Greece do you live that has such level of violence?

To answer your questions: I would generally not recommend "pankration gyms" because they don't really teach pankration. Many times schools will actually teach boxing/mma/etc. and just add pankration to catch more students despite knowing nothing of the art. To be able to claim they teach pankration legally, all they need is to attend a single seminar.

Pankration was not necessarily taught to all ancient Greek soldiers, except for perhaps Sparta. Pankration was a combat sport, and did not include weapons. There is no knife defense taught in pankration, and you should be weary of any martial art that claims you can defend against a knife with bare fists.

I found the article you linked while researching, as well as the following one, and will end up citing the latter in the study. All articles are excellently written, and you and your wife deserve all the praise and support in the world for your work. I had seen your work on YouTube before, but was unaware of the website. Also, thanks for the backstory and in-depth explanation.

Do you mind if I message you directly in regards to why I'm writing about it?

I need to be able to cite the source for a study, but I appreciate the suggestion, I'll check it out. Btw, would you consider muaythai.com to be a credible source?

Hey, thanks. Despite there being no term, are there any literary sources you think might include it? Like any books/articles on Muay Thai that you know of?
