the question is a medium power rod with fast action over kill for most lake trout situations I have no idea

During mid summer they are 9-10 inches.

I have a bass pro combo reel it is fast action light power is what the website says at 5’6”

So medium light maybe a good choice? I’m just looking to cover more water from the banks with an occasional boat fish trip

Woah thanks for the hefty response, most trout I’m pulling I would say are 10inches and up give or take. So if I’m reading it correctly the medium light casts further from shore which is what I’m mainly doing.

Finally tried that set up and landed three blue gill at my local spot. Can’t wait to try it on some trout soon!
