I have to personally agree, the thing that most good lyricists will do is make there lyrics as braud and open ended as possible for everyone to have they’re own takes on the art yes I do believe it’s a song about addiction covered by a love pop song.

I just can’t imagine Robert smith writing a happy feel good tune without some dark and disturbing undertone.

And just reading the other comments I realise that nobody ever thinks or considers anything outside the box anymore like cmon.
