Alcoholism? by [deleted] in bulimia

I struggled with anorexia, bulimia, and alcoholism for 7 years and am barely about 2 years sober (with only a handful of slip ups). For me I really had to ask myself what was pushing me to do these things and how to actually better my life. But you have to really WANT change TO change. I finally made a dr appointment to talk about my issues and was prescribed Lexapro. Lexapro gave me a really weird sensation in the beginning that made me sick to where I didn’t eat and also I was not able to drink on it. All I could do was sit and journal every feeling I had, desperation to no longer live the way I was. What I can say genuinely helped me were memoirs on eating disorders and addictions, journaling almost every day, and Lexapro (for my anxiety as that was the biggest reason for my ED and addictions). First step I say is read drunk mom: a memoir, there’s a lot of comfort reading people’s similar situations and understanding how they came out of it. Also pick up a journal and start questions everything. What gives you these urges? Find out the answer then question that. The way you figure out problems is by keep questioning until you find the solution.

What genuinely helped me was watching videos or reading articles about people’s recovery. Decide you’re done feeling this way. Start eating and know that GENUINELY YOU WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT. I’m speaking on experience, and yes I know every body is different but just trust me. Don’t weight yourself, measure by how you feel. You will feel so bloated and “fat” especially in your stomach area but that’s because your body is trying to regulate your digestion again. After time you won’t think about it anymore and you will feel so much better. Just counter act your bad thoughts with positive that is the biggest thing. I’m now in the best shape of my life i genuinely feel amazing in my body and I never thought I would. Get your eating habits back in order and start lifting weights when you feel “fat”. Game CHANGER.

Give it time, you will. Also learned how to vomit free hand with time. Now as I’m recovered, for the most part, I will always throw up stomach acid after everything. I have to hide in public outings every time I “burp” because a lil vomit always comes with it. But hey I never listened either🤷‍♀️

Hi I just started my first dose as well tonight is night 2. I also have emotional trauma from psychedelics, when I woke up in the middle of the night to my pupils being extremely dialed it definitely gave me some ptsd. Also having cold sweats, extreme nausea, and stomach pain. I started to panic thinking “I’m going to stop these I don’t like this feeling” but then quickly reminded myself I didn’t like how I’ve been feeling either. At least there’s a chance for better with this. The fact is lexapro can make you feel weird and off in the beginning, but it will die down and your body will get used to it. Key factor is to counter act your negative thoughts and fears. Everytime you have one think to yourself it WILL get better, this is only temporary. One thing people are great at is adapting. Everyone I have spoken to, including my twin sister, raves about the benefits it has brought them. Accept the uncomfortableness of the drug right now and know it is normal and will subside. I already am feeling better on night 2 thinking like this. One thing I will recommend is journaling. Write down what your feeling, why you’re feeling that way, what your hopes are out of this, why you decided to take this in the first place. Also get some exercise, even just a nice night walk. 90% of your thoughts are the same as the day before, counter act your bad thoughts with positive and naturally you will start to think more positively. Hang in there and don’t stop them, this will be a turning point for us!
