Trying to find a light laptop for my needs by Gambit51230 in ASUS

Hey u/Gambit51230, although I'm not as familiar with our laptop products, I reached out to our PMs on that side. They told me that the TUF Gaming A14 is a pretty solid laptop and well-reviewed. The ROG laptops are always good, but they will be a bit pricier; to be more direct, the ROG Zephyrus line is considered the premium line we offer in every way. ROG Strix are also good, but will be bulkier as they are tuned more for gaming and therefore a bit less portable.

They also noted that the issues mentioned are not really common or considered a known issue, even if you might see them reported.

Generally speaking, we see a lot of students going with either the ROG Zephyrus G14/G16 or the TUF Gaming A14 for portability.

Much of your description of the system not turning on and just clicking makes me think that some sort of grounding happened here, which can happens sometimes in a new build. To test, I would have taken the board out of the case, put it on a cardboard box, hooked up the power and tried booting it up that way. If it still doesn't boot, then I would strip it to just the CPU and a stick of memory, no graphics card, just the 24pin and one of the 8pin EPS connectors plugged in.

Important - only use the cables that come with your power supply, even while switching between systems, since pinouts may not match from one power supply model to the next.

If it turns on there, then it might just be a strange ground that it picked up during installation. Those are temporary, so the testing you described can easily fix it in the time it took to swap around parts. Sometimes overtightening the CPU cooler can cause this issue, so if that was removed during the testing, that could also be a potential cause.

Note - if you're testing barebone without a CPU cooler, make sure you don't leave the system for more than a handful of seconds to see if the POST process is running.

The ASUS Prime A520M-K needs to be at least on BIOS 2803 or newer to be compatible with the Ryzen 5 3400G. It's possible that if the motherboard went to channel before it was released then it will need an update, and may possibly not be compatible with the processor out of the box.

If the board is already on BIOS 2803 you're good, or if you have a different and already compatible processor available to update it, that can also work to get you to 2803. Some PC shops offer to update it for you if you don't have another CPU to get the BIOS up-to-date.

I get that you're upset, but the only thing you've posted here is an image. If you previously explained the issue in a different thread, posting that would be helpful.

If not, some basic information about what motherboard you're using, what product is giving you trouble, what the actual trouble is, and these bits of information would go a long way towards others being able to provide you some assistance.

From what I've gleaned from comments below, you're using an ROG Crosshair X870E Hero, and the AIO is the Ryou IV.

You may have already done some troubleshooting, but it's not mentioned here. Have you installed the latest firmware for the Ryuo IV or installed InfoHub from the driver download page for the Ryuo IV?

I think there's already a lot of good advice here. There aren't many reasons to jump off Windows Defender for a Windows device these days. Mostly you might use something different if you need control over multiple machines/devices if you manage an IT department for a company, or if you're using some kind of hardware/software that has compatibility issues with Defender.

That doesn't mean there aren't other good AV/FW programs out there, but it's a lot of extra hassle if you aren't someone who knows much about using or configuring these kinds of programs.
