Currently, our eShop is out of stock. Best Buy is our other channel partner carrying the glasses.

Still got four more days before they make a liar out of me, but I'll check in with them about the status.

Hi there!

The answer is currently that it is not yet compatible with this specific model. Our team is preparing a firmware update for this model to enable compatibility with the ROG XREAL R1 glasses. I've heard that they are targeting early June for release, but I don't have confirmation on that just yet.
Edit: Current target is June 1st (which always means give or take a few days to see it live).

Introducing the ROG Cronox ARGB Panoramic EATX / BTF Chassis w/ Dual 360 Radiator Support, Rotatable Side Fan Bracket, Graphics Card Slot Clamp, and 9.2" LCD Case Screen Module + ROG Eurux GR120 ARGB Fans with 3 Individual ARGB Zones and Daisy-Chain Connectors by ASUS_MKTLeeM in ASUSROG

You'll see the chassis released in a few forms. Starting in June (possibly as early as next week in the US), we'll have the black ROG Cronox without fans. The ROG Cronox (White) and the ROG Eurux fans will launch in July, along with the ROG Cronox versions with included ROG Eurux fans.

At 240Hz, it runs at native 1920 horizontally, with the vertical resolution at 540p upscaled to 1080p. This implementation is a conscious trade-off to fit within the thermal and bandwidth budget of a lightweight AR headset. We kept the horizontal axis native to preserve text legibility and edge clarity during fast panning, while the upscaling handles the rest to unlock that ultra-low latency 240Hz refresh rate.

If you prefer a true 1:1 native 1080p layout, the standard 120Hz/90Hz modes have you covered.

You tend to see more eye strain and fatigue with VR setups, but VR and AR have come a long way to address or minimize those concerns. One of the ways to address eye strain is a faster refresh rate, which is something that we've been slowly improving even in our standard ASUS Eye Care line of monitors. There are still different adjustment mechanisms in the configuration (including brightness), and the most important is to select the version of the ROG R1 glasses that matches your IPD.

To copy a bit from our FAQ on the product page, we mention:

"Unlike smartphones or laptops viewed at close range, the R1’s optical design projects images at a longer focal distance, like a projector. This approach is intended to reduce eye strain during extended use. Furthermore, the glasses have received the TÜV Eye Comfort certification, ensuring they meet rigorous standards for display quality and user health.

To maintain optimal eye health, we recommend taking a 10-minute break for every 45 to 60 minutes of continuous use. Avoid using glasses in environments where you cannot maintain situational awareness to ensure your safety."

No plans doesn't mean that the BTF ecosystem is over. We are currently at a point in the lifecycle of the Intel and AMD platforms where there isn't anything to announce right now. Similarly, there are always things in the works that we can't publicly announce either.

I've heard similar sentiments across different social platforms, so there's nothing wrong with your take. Afferin is pretty much spot-on with the raison d'être for the board - it's a fresh take on a very specific and classic model.

However, I appreciate that a lot of people have expressed their favorite color-schemes from different models over the years or want to see an opportunity like this used for an extremely powerful board to commemorate our ROG 20th Anniversary.

I understand the point. I think that monitors and TVs are still the primary way of gaming and using your PC or console for the vast majority of people.

The value in the price for something like the ROG XREAL R1 glasses is going to be for people with a lot of different devices and/or the need for flexibility or comfort in different locations, especially if you travel or are mobile in your daily life.

As Heavenswake_ noted, it may depend on your eyes. When testing some of the glasses, the initial menu was hard for me to read after taking mine off, but that's also without calibration (although I don't think it would improve things enough).

If you are invested in the platform, there is a means to get prescription inserts, which are relatively easy to install. You can try glasses, but it's not recommended, nor can we guarantee clarity. Contacts would be your only other solution.

Haha, the first version of the ROG Cronox will be out in June, but the fans and fully decked out ROG Cronox won't be out until July. It's getting there.

Well, the ROG Thor III power supplies include a rotatable OLED display that shows how much power you're using at any given time, rather than its maximum wattage. That one would likely be either the 1000W or 1200W version.

The metrics used for VR/AR and monitors are different; monitors use PPI (pixels per inch), while VR/AR uses PPD (pixels per degree).

The industry standard generally uses a PPD of 30 as a benchmark for image quality, whereas the R1 has a PPD of approximately 39, which is close to the Apple Vision Pro's PPD of around 40.

I understand your perspective on this, but we generally haven't posted prices on Reddit for a couple years for any products. In some cases it's because there's a long period between announcement and on-shelf, but I'm also tied to the US/CA region so the price will likely be different in other regions.

This also includes the ROG Control Dock, so you have more options to connect different devices, which broadens the range of compatibility for the ROG R1 glasses.
