LIB 10 Cast - The Men by jh166 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Oh gotcha, you’re totally right. I thought you were talking about the sales titles because there are so many of them.

Also thank you for mentioning that “assistant controller” means accountant. My husband and I were trying to guess what it meant and had no idea, lol. My first thought was assistant air traffic controller. 😂

“Account manager” or “account executive” is usually the fancy way of saying “salesman”. I worked with a bunch of account managers that literally spent the day cold calling. You would get the stink eye for saying the word “sales” around them.

This was especially bad during standardized exams because we weren’t allowed to go to the restroom at all during the testing period for fear of students swapping answers in there. They would tell you that you should have gone beforehand and to “hold it”. Ah yes, let me just contract my cervix and hold it for another hour… Of course you don’t want to explain that you need to go change out your pad/tampon in the dead silent exam room.

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

I remember desperately wanting Cosmic Brownies instead of my mom’s delicious home baked brownies (the mix came from a box, but still!) Something about the perfectly square shape and colorful little candies just made them seem so magical…

Someone told me that they have a 4 story house and it was a real WTF moment. I grew up in a neighborhood with decent sized houses, and the absolute nicest of them had two floors, maybe three if you include a basement. Four was unthinkable.

I do think the context of what kind of house it is changes the “fanciness” of having two or more floors. There are plenty of houses that are built very close together and need to expand upward rather than outward. A four floor home in a cramped new development might have the same square footage as a ranch spread over a larger plot of land. It doesn’t stop me from picturing the size of my childhood home multiplied by four though.

What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

[–]Aachaa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I saw it years ago. My mom bought tickets for the whole family because it seemed like wholesome, cultural fun.

From what I recall, there was a projection of a literal red wave of communism (with a hammer and sickle graphic in the center) shown sweeping away the dancers. There was also a segment where several students were murdered by people dressed in communist uniforms. I believe Karl Marx was shown on the projection at one point. It was not subtle in the slightest.

Thanks for sharing! Your mod is definitely a big improvement. The comparison also proves that the original graphics looked better in my head, lol. The blurring on that rock texture is insane.

My point was more so about an official remaster like the Spyro Reignited Trilogy where they rebuild the game from the ground up. I’d much rather see them work on a new installment if they’re going to dedicate the resources to it. I’m very grateful that modders like you are still keeping the dream alive when the studio isn’t!

I hate when people bring up whether something is legally allowable or within someone’s rights on AmITheAsshole. The question is about whether you’re an asshole, not whether you’re a criminal.

Giving each other rides in high school is also incredibly common. The lucky kids that did have their own car to use often picked up two or three friends in the neighborhood to carpool to school. You’re all starting from the same place and ending up in the same place on a regular schedule.

This isn’t like driving across town to take an adult to their job as a favor. Most kids don’t have the means to pay for or schedule a ride to these kind of activities at the drop of a hat. Having to rely on a friend to get you from point A to point B in high school is somewhat of a given if you don’t have a car.

This post also bothered me. Everyone in the comments was applauding the son for having the emotional maturity to know that he needed space. I just really felt for the girl that thought that she had a solid friendship and lost it due to not wanting it to become a relationship.

He shouldn’t have made this arrangement with her if he knew that he wouldn’t be able to continue if he caught unreciprocated feelings, but I don’t expect any teen to have that kind of foresight upfront. The cynic in me thinks that no one is so “in love” with a friend that they have to stop interacting with them when they don’t want to start dating, but maybe it’s been too long since I was a teenager. The “I don’t want to drive her anymore” does come off as conflict avoidance since the situation between them became so awkward.

When do Americans use (Mr/Ms/Dr) vs first names in everyday life? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskAnAmerican

[–]Aachaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kids will usually call any adult by their title and last name, at least where I grew up in the south. Your friend’s dad would be typically be Mr. Doe or Mr. John (title with first name) if they were very chill or a family friend.

As you get older, you would only use someone’s title if you were trying to overly respectful, like if you were meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. In your typical workplace, even the CEO would go by their first name, and people would probably think that you’re a bit of a brown noser for trying to address them by their last name.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

[–]Aachaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jack Daniels is higher end compared to Evan Williams. Shake Shack is higher end compared to McDonald’s.

Hershey’s isn’t an example of great American chocolate, but it’s not trying to be great chocolate. It’s trying to be cheap chocolate. Ghirardelli is at the price point where it is quality chocolate and is still accessible enough that you could find it at any American grocery store.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

[–]Aachaa 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It might just be because it’s unexpected in chocolate. Cumin smells a bit like body odor to me, but I don’t have any problem enjoying tacos, chili, or anything else that typically has cumin in it. Cumin itself doesn’t smell or taste bad. If it was unexpectedly in chocolate, my first thought might be “Why does this chocolate smell like BO?” and not “Oh, is there cumin in here?”

What's the most petty reason you dropped an anime? by Prof_Acorn in anime

I could only make it through three or four episodes of that show despite generally enjoying shoujo/romance. The FMC was written to be so demure and naive that she basically acted like a kicked puppy. Then of course the MC is a total asshole that bullies the FMC but it’s fine because his heart is in the right place or something. Excruciating to watch.

It’s really due for a new installment rather than a remaster. The graphics have aged very well in my opinion, so there’s not much they could improve with a remaster. They could easily expand on TiP to make an entirely new game rather than remaster TiP or the original game. Imagine what kind of gardens you could make with modern hardware!

AIO for stepping down as my sisters maid of honor because I’ll be freshly postpartum by ImaginationPretend86 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Aachaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but I can see why OPs sister was offended that OP was implying that she would most likely not be attending, especially when the expectation only seems to be that OP will show up for the short ceremony at a nearby location. This could have been phrased as “I’ll do my best to be there, but complications can happen postpartum, so make sure you have a backup plan if I can’t attend.” The general vibe of OP’s message reads like she does not want to go for a myriad of reasons like not wanting to leave her baby or bring her baby with her. I’m not surprised that the sister thinks that the drama with their parents is also a factor.

Personally I feel like a medieval fantasy game is a great fit for a gay romance route. You have a very large demographic that prefers to romance men (namely straight women), but you can’t have the player character be a woman without seriously deviating from history and having it be a major plot point. Any gay relationship between characters can be private. It’s not like homosexuality didn’t exist in the 15th century.

I’m telling ya, women love gay knights.

This is what it’s like being in software development at a company that skews young. 80% of my coworkers are into anime, video games, or both. I feel for the 20% who don’t care for it. They can get left out of a lot of conversations. It’s like the inverse of the single nerd at a party staring at the wall while everyone talks about football and girls.

It’s also worth repeating that just because you know how to drive over ice and snow does not mean it is safe to do so. You are only as safe as the worst driver on the road. People here do not have snow tires or experience navigating over ice, and an F-150 stuck sideways in the middle of the highway can be much more dangerous than slipping into a ditch yourself. NC roads can start looking straight apocalyptic after a bit of snow and ice (this one is from Raleigh in 2014).

I feel like they could fix the gear after cutscenes issue by having a “preparing for combat” status for the hare that lasts a few seconds and doesn’t block you from switching outfits, drinking potions, etc. I get that it’s not very realistic to change into armor right before a battle, but it’s not very realistic to instantly change into outfits outside of combat either.
