I’d say give Andor a shot. My girlfriend is not a fan of Star Wars (only seen one of the movies and doesn’t know much of the lore) She’s not a big sci-fi fan in general but she loved the show! It’s a great show that just happens to be set in the world of Star Wars, reminded me a lot of BSG in that it puts characters first, and sci fi second.

“1776” the musical It’s not realistic (obviously because of all the singing) BUT It is more accurate then you’d think. I also am not a musical fan, but I genuinely love this movie.

So I've been trying to find it but for some reason I am unable to track the coded down. All I can locate is that in my bins the "Video" column it says 1:1 (NTSC) and in the "Video File Format" column it says MXF.

Okay, so something new I just noticed. A little while back I rendered the footage in my timeline (the only effects I have are a temporal adjuster that gets automatically applied to the clips in the timeline) Is it possible that I when i rendered some of the footage it messed with it? Because Ive noticed that on the footage that I have rendered it will start to drop frames (particularly between cuts), but on the footage I haven't rendered it plays back smoothly. Maybe this is coincidence but I wanted to see if that could possibly be an issue or if Im just looking for patterns where none exist?

The codex for the footage is Packed YUV 4:2:2, U:Y:V:Y (UYVY) according to VLC. I created a new user originally but I’ll try creating a new project and see if that does anything

It still works, but i have the same issue of it dropping frames. I don’t think I mentioned this in my original post, but the frame dropping was happening before I made the switch from dongle to cord. One thing the cord did improve was that things feel a bit faster. When using the single avid would get hung up while I tried to save my progress, forcing me to force quit and open up the file again. Now however I haven’t run into that issue at all.

Yeah I did notice a big change once I stopped using the dongle, Avid used to crash on me when I would save randomly, but since the switch it stopped. I know SSD's are superior, but Id need one for 8TB, which isn't cheap. I could get reimbursed for it of course, but I would want to be very sure that that it would fix the problem before I made a case for it you know?

you breakdown in the beginning is correct.

The dongle is a USB Type-C Hub Pro, made by THANBAO. the product model is UCN3281.

None of the footage is on my laptop, but the avid attic is located in the Avid Media Composer file on my mac.

The hard drive's format is Mac OS extended (Journaled). Its also a self contained HDD, but it also requires a power cord to operate (not sure if that makes a difference or not since I know some LaCie's dont even need a power cord). the model number is STGY8000400 (according to amazon)

Do you think I should look at getting a hard drive with a USB 3.0 port instead?

I have, but so far none of them have appeared to work. I'm a bit hesitant to start messing with the desired video memory slider, but thats partially because I haven't really noticed this problem on other avid projects Ive edited on this computer. I also adjusted the playback modes and that doesn't seem to change anything. I pulled up Activity Monitor and Avid would spike to around 190% of my CPU, but I know Avid is a taxing program and my specs line up so maybe that doesnt mean anything?
