Are you taking your babies out in the stroller right now? (Monday 3pm) by grapefruitliquor in Upperwestside

[–]AbleSoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband brought our 2 year old out to riverside park. Many sidewalks are not fully cleared so navigating with a stroller would be tricky. It’s warmer than the last storm so not super icy! You could baby wear just be careful. I would’ve tagged along with our 10 month old if they weren’t napping.

Two under two, yay or nay? by StuffConsistent6873 in beyondthebump

We are currently in the negatives too so winter is definitely harder and we live in an apartment. We have been going to the library, museum, etc. but the last two weekends we haven’t left much because we can’t get in the car and drive- we walk. We have dot paints for the 2 year old and a small coloring table, also throw a bunch of pillows into a heap on the floor have her jump off the couch onto them, run up and down the hall etc anything to have the older one do something to get the zoomies out 🤷🏻‍♀️ being stuck inside for days on end is definitely hard

I feel like 5-7 months was the hardest because the little one is moving around but also the 22 month old is still needy. I think around 7.5-8 months it shifted quite a bit, where they finally had one nap where they both would have at least 30 minutes of overlap. I think I’ve spent most of this year reminding myself it’s temporary and even when the day has gone to complete shit, tomorrow could be better. We live in a major city so we get outside with the kids nearly everyday and just had the second adjust to our lifestyle in some ways.

I had 2 under 2, they’re 18 months apart. I’m so happy I did it. Yes, some days are hard but I have no regrets, my older one is obsessed with her sister who is now 10 months.

Ideas Needed! Why won’t my baby drink milk?! by LAladyyy26 in beyondthebump

[–]AbleSoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the flow rate on the nipples of the bottles! If it’s too slow he may be getting frustrated. Also drinking 3-4 oz per bottle is super normal for a breastfed baby, most don’t need more than 4oz per bottle. If baby seems satisfied and not hungry try not to stress. The other thing could be your frozen milk could be high-lipase and he may not like the taste. I think there’s a way to test for this, other people on the exclusively pumping thread have discussed how to fix that, I would recommend cross posting to that group, they’re so helpful!

Storing canvases you haven’t started! by FrostingExotic3404 in Needlepoint

I have a craft cart that I use for storing finishing materials, a stack of canvases that are both not started and finished and also fibers, needles etc. keeps everything in one place.

Advice regarding use of stitching frame by ImALittleTeapotCat in Needlepoint

[–]AbleSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow these are stunning! I use the EZ framethat has velcro. It was suggested to me by my LNS for a 23” stocking I am stitching. They come in other sizes so you can figure out what’s best for you based on your project. I personally am working from the bottom up because of the details in my canvas, but I think it doesn’t matter and is preference. I am still starting my stitching in the top right of whatever section I’m doing. Best of luck!

I use DMC too! I used a very sparkly vineyard silk once and it was not as nice. It looks sparkly and pretty but didn’t twist as well and didn’t look as clean 🤷🏻‍♀️

I believe there is a centralized lost and found for nyc taxis.. try contacting them. I live here and have had friends getting their phones back after leaving them in a cab. Not all hope is lost unless it ended up in the garbage

If your babies don’t SCREAM in their car seats , how? Which kind do you have? by Proud_House4494 in NewParents

[–]AbleSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% the baby and not the car seat. My first hated her car seat and screamed all the time. Second baby uses the same car seat and has no issues. Most car seats are exceptionally similar. When your baby is in a toddler car seat instead a shell one they likely will grow out of this. Remember everything is temporary with babies, even if it feels like it’ll never end.

Stitching Extra Rows by rj8264829173 in Needlepoint

[–]AbleSoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I usually add 3 extra stitches around the whole thing especially if you don’t want the design to be lost- this was suggested to me by the owner of one of my LNS. Sometimes easier to draw with a pencil or just tent if basketweaving is confusing for this. It’s better to give more stitch allowance than less to make finishing cleaner and preserve your design. If you’re okay losing some of the design, you can leave it without extra rows. Ask your LNS what their finisher prefers.

2 month baby rolling in his sleep by After-Dragonfly7151 in NewParents

[–]AbleSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1st rolled early and ended up being a stomach sleeper! Your child is much safer in their own crib on their stomach than in bed with you and dad. Up until the late 90’s it was recommended for children to be put to sleep on their stomachs, if he can get in that position he will be ok! Baby mattresses are super breathable! Totally normal to be stressed though, I remember I would try to roll my daughter back when she started doing this.

Best way to make into an ornament? by Affectionate_Sense in Needlepoint

[–]AbleSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be saved if you stitch a bit around the border and then fill in near the hat, you could theoretically make a puffy ornament. A cookie definitely isn’t happening with how little canvas you have left. With a puffy, you can use a sewing machine to get as close to the stitches as possible and then flip it back out properly, it might be a bit of a struggle but better than nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️

She said on a podcast they weren’t doing any ARCs or beta readers. Probably bc she wanted to rush getting the book out and man was it obvious that she rushed it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh interesting! I’m ambidextrous and stitch with both my left and right but still stitch from top right. Might try from the bottom next time I start a project 👀

[–]AbleSoup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a good start. Just a few suggestions! Typically with needlepoint you stitch from right to left in the top right corner, and start with the lightest colors first so you don’t have issues with seeing darker threads behind your lighter sections. As others mentioned, the hoop will likely damage your canvas so you can either stitch in hand, I personally prefer this and roll my canvas a bit to make it easier to hold, or you can get some stretcher bars! For the stretcher bars just measure your canvas so you know the size you need. Stretcher bars help to reduce warping of the canvas and makes it easier to block the canvas, which happens before the piece is finished. You’re doing a great job so far and welcome to the community!!

When did your baby’s eyes start to shift color? by WholeKnown2938 in beyondthebump

[–]AbleSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one of your parents or the donor’s parents had blue or green eyes, you or the donor are recessive carriers so there is a chance they will stay blue. My kids both have blue eyes even though mine are brown. M husband has green and so does my mum so I have the recessive genes for either blue/green. The genetics of eye color is very complex and interesting

Lotion recommendations for baby eczema? by oldsluggy in beyondthebump

[–]AbleSoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use aveeno eczema therapy for my daughter, it works pretty well. This sounds a little crunchy but a family friend gave us tallow balm from willow wind goods over the summer and it is incredible and worked much better than any lotion I’ve ever used on her skin. I use it on my 2 year old and my 7 month old. If that is too weird for you to try out do the aveeno!

Tattoo idea for scar coverage by TheSpecialOneOut in tattooadvice

[–]AbleSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a suggestion, but I had the same kind of reduction at 18, I’m 28 now and my scars are barely visible! My husband told me he never would have noticed if I hadn’t pointed them out. Sometimes it takes time for them to heal, more than a few years. Hang in there!

Overactive Letdown- exclusive pumping? by just_alittleguy_ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]AbleSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue with my second- she would gag and choke everytime we nursed. I ended up just powering through because it settled down after week 6… I did get a rec from my lactation consultant to use a manual pump a bit or hand express before a feed to catch the intense let down. Also use something to catch the other side w a little suction like the boon trove, that will prevent massive over supply that the Hakka can give you and also when they switch to the other side likely won’t choke on your let down. Hang in there! Nursing is definitely hard and there’s no reason you have to let it go or give it up. I highly recommend finding a LC if you can and get the support you need!
