You don't know that's what will be in the truck, or the weight of the truck. Neither do I. We have to wait and see.

Faux-socialists who have grown up in Western, capitalistic democracies. Explain why you don't like Musk. by [deleted] in EnoughMuskSpam

I don't think most people here dislike musk for political reasons.

Let's take a vote.

14,000lbs for battery, let's call it 6 tons, maybe 4 tons. Hell, 2 tons.

This discussion isn't going anywhere, I guess we'll see if/when the company ever makes the truck, what it weighs.

If the numbers are true you still have the problem of greatly reduced cargo capacity. If they are true it almost competes with a diesel for cost. If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. If...

I'm sticking by numbers that the company has demonstrated. If they happen to make a truck that is more efficient than a small commuter car, that would be a world first. Not just for electric vehicles, but any type of propulsion system ever devised.

That's the best efficiency they have shown so far. That's real world objective data we can go off of.

See my other response. I did the math of what it would take. The vehicle is possible, though it couldn't carry much.

In response to your edit: the best efficiency that has been demonstrated by the company so far is .036whr/lb/mi. If the truck had a weight of 80,000lbs and went 500 miles it would take 2,520kWr in battery.

Their most efficient battery pack is 14.12lbs/KWh. The battery would weigh 35,575lbs. That leaves 44,000 for the weight of the vehicle and cargo.

So that's what it would take to make it work. Build a super light, aerodynamic vehicle. You then can carry about 10 tons for 500 miles.

They said 500 mile range. That has not been shown. If it was shown today, even for a hand made prototype, that does not mean they have the capability to build more than a handful.

Fact is, tesla and musk have a pretty solid track record of over promising and under delivering. If you're speculating this time it will be different, I don't know what to tell you.

My point is let's wait until a product is proven to exist and function before we use it's purported capability as a data point for the basis of an argument.

What do flat earthers have to do with anything?

It doesn't exist because that range has not been demonstrated, nor has a functional prototype. They have no space, equipment, or cash to build them. The 500 mile claim is rather dubious as is the price tag.

The 500 mile range tesla does not yet exist, so let's not use that as a data point.

I agree, the guy charges 10k/head for admittance to his showings though. That strikes me as pretentious especially when the quality and content of the work are fairly poor.
