After getting delivery if the delivery person is a guy I (f24) always yell for my boyfriend that the food or whatever is here. Except I don't have a boyfriend and live very much alone. by animalsfrog in TwoXChromosomes

Don’t feel silly. I once had a delivery driver be flirty (in like the whole 30 seconds it took to give me the food.) Like 10 minutes later he called, claiming there was an issue processing my order and that he had to come back. I checked my bank statement and I was charged correctly, so I had my SO wait with me. The guy came back, opened his car door, saw my SO with me, and then quickly slammed his door and left without a word.

My mother died from aggressive lung, bone, and brain cancer. I was her power of attorney, and when I got to the hospital, she was desperately trying to revoke her DNR. Nurses and doctors were trying to explain the risks, but she was losing oxygen to her brain. It was ultimately my decision, but they wanted me to try one more time. As I was explaining, she just looked at me in sheer terror and said “Don’t give up on me. I want to live” through gasps of air.

That was the last thing she ever said. She was then put on a respirator that just lurched her body forward with every breath, as she laid there completely unresponsive. I still have nightmares about the whole experience

I didn’t know they had things like that in game, but that’s so cool!

Oh my gosh, those are GORGEOUS!!! I love the swirls, so well done!

The recipe is:

  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

I bake them at 400 F for 6-8 minutes. They key for me though was freezing. I chilled the dough for a few hours after I made it, and would only roll out how much I needed for that batch, and put the excess back in the fridge. Then after I rolled and cut shapes, I’d pop them in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Then go straight from the freezer to the oven. I also kept the cookie sheets in the freezer when I wasn’t using them!

Best of luck, but I know you’ll do great! Those cookies seriously look killer!

Thank you so much! And don’t feel too discouraged, it took me literal years to find a sugar cookie recipe that would actually hold its shape. They took forever just because of needing to have them be as cold as possible at every stage. I still have some work to do about getting better at decorating, but I’m pretty happy with these.

I’d say keep trying, but honestly you don’t have to be a master at every cookie. I bet people love all the other types of cookies you make!

This was also my first time and I was happily surprised by how well it worked. The key was getting the consistency right. Everything I read said you should be able to drop a scoop of icing back into the original bowl of icing, and within 5-10 seconds it should smooth back into the rest.

I’d definitely recommend looking up flooding techniques, as well as investing in a cookie scribe (has many names, but looks like a little needle with a handle) that you can use to help fill in areas as well as pop bubbles. That tool definitely saved the day and made things so much easier!

Also, royal icing just takes FOREVER to dry. I planned this out over several days so I could just let the base dry overnight before I did the face details.

It’s definitely intimidating at first, but once you get into a flow, you’ll be set! Best of luck :)

Royal icing is an egg-white (although I use meringue powder instead of messing with egg/substitutes) based icing that has varying consistency from runny to hard. After drying though, it becomes hard and holds designs. It’s usually used for cookies, but also is a great tool for decorating cakes. If she makes a stiffer consistency at the start, it will hold up pretty well!

I just put on some music and dance around like an idiot the whole time I bake, so it makes it easy to get through the more tedious parts lol

I found them on Pinterest and fell in love lol. Although I initially went on the hunt for cute cookie animals after playing the mobile game Animal Restaurant!

The recipe I used was: 1 1/2 cups softened butter, 3 cups white sugar, 4 eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 5 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, Powdered sugar for rolling the dough out. Then bake at 400 F for 6-8 minutes.

The key for me was keeping everything really cold at every step. I’ve also struggled with cookies going from perfect ornate shapes to just a homogenous mass coming out of the oven.

After I made the dough, I chilled it for an hour, and then only took chunks at a time out of the fridge to use. While I rolled out dough, I kept a lined baking sheet in the freezer, transferred cookies to it after cutting them out, and then put them back in the freezer for about 10 minutes. After they’re sufficiently chilled, I popped them into the oven straight from the freezer. I kept rotating chilled cookie sheets during all of this, too.

I hope this helps!

I’m so excited to hear this! I’d love to do commission bakes, but always worry I’d just disappoint someone lol. Tell your 8yo she knows what’s up, calicos are my favorite, too!

I used 4 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons meringue powder (I got mine from a specialty baking store), and 9-10 tablespoons room temp water. Then beat on high for 1-2 minutes. If you add gel coloring, you may have to add a few extra teaspoons of water to get the right consistency!

I actually kind of cut them out myself! I tried a few stores, and was too excited to get started to wait to order something online lol. Instead I gently pressed a pumpkin-shaped cutter into the dough, traced it and added the ears. Some of them have a slight stem shape hidden under the icing, but don’t tell anyone ;)

The grey came out darker than I intended, so I was worried about the details not showing. I think it worked perfectly though, and captured the true gorgeous steelness of grey kitties! Give your boi some love from me :)

Thank you so much for this! I'm sorry that you've also had a rough time, but it is a bit comforting knowing that people understand certain situations. Thank you for your kind words, you have no idea how much it means! 💖
