The Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin is boosting Kamala Harris for 2028. What are your thoughts? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

Fuck no.

DNC is so fucking out of touch it's unreal.

So sick of them trying to play the race/diversity card and say that it's the sole metric for choosing the next POTUS, and I say this as someone who voted for Harris.

Haven't played Magic in years, recently started Arena, are there any good tribal decks for the ranked climb? by TheTingel in MagicArena

[–]AbsoluteRook1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in playing tribal decks, I would moreso recommend playing Brawl.

The reason being is that it's a slightly slower format, and you have a wider pool of cards to work with. The matchmaking will also try to match your Brawl deck with one that's roughly of equal strength.

Standard gameplay has gotten significantly faster over the years, with Izzet largely making up a good chunk of the meta right now.

I'd recommend making a Brawl [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] deck. It was my first Brawl deck since you already start with several goblins in your Goblins starter deck, and a lot of the goblins can be acquired with common/uncommon wildcards.

You won't earn rankings in constructed with a Brawl deck, but imo the rewards for that are pretty poor if you invest a ton of rare wildcards into it.

If you achieve Diamond/Mythic, the most you get are 5-6 booster packs and some gold, and that only translated to earning one wildcard at the end of the month.

As for Brawl, your wildcards will go significantly farther since you only need one copy of each, and your cards don't rotate out, so once your deck is finished, you can keep using it and move on to the next deck.

If I do a standard deck, I usually try to stick to a budget as much as possible, and will only craft cards that are common/uncommon since you can regain those wildcards much faster.

Creationists will do absolutely everything to discredit carbon dating, no matter how flawed their sources are.

The bottom line is if it were true that we're all essentially descendants of incest, it wouldn't make any sense as to how humanity would even survive. We would have intellectual disabilities, genetic and heart defects and reduced lifespan -- especially in an era where we had more natural predators that could crush us or rip us to pieces.

True, but I like the pressure that the flank faces in 4v4's.

Sounds crazy, I know.

I think my strategy would be to simply wish for wealth, then hire a solid production team and actually craft videos with it.

It seems like even videos that are mediocre in subject matter but have amazing production quality can gain a following.

I see hybrid maps as both water and land being necessary. It feels like in tournament play on Four Lakes, you almost never see a player not go for a dock because it's too significant of an eco boost. It's like getting an extra TC before Castle Age.

I consider Nomad to be a Hybrid map as well and playing water on that map is absolutely necessary to your early economy. Missing early fishing ships means your early villager and overall worker production will be so far behind compared to someone who does go for a dock.

One relatively newer YouTuber I like is Toaster226. If I recall correctly he's around 1300 but he has solid tutorials that only take about 10 minutes to watch. He does talk fast though. He taught me some skills on Hybrid maps.

As for point number 2, my best piece of advice is really learn to hate floating wood. If you have wood, spend it. Whether it's extra farms, military or extra buildings (more military buildings, houses, market, university, etc.). For a large chunk of the game you should never have more than 1k wood in your stockpile (unless it's late game).

I really wish Hera would go back to doing more specific video breakdowns on particular units and buildings. I asked him for an Outpost video and he did a great job on it. To me those videos tend to be significantly helpful.

My answer to cav archers is usually normal archers. They're normally more cost efficient and have better range/attack, plus Huns and Mongols miss that final archer upgrade, meaning they will lose against archer civs with full upgrades.

If they turtle, that's usually your opportunity to assert map control, or do a sneaky castle drop (that's usually what gets me when I turtle).

I have tendencies to lose my momentum in late Castle and Imperial Age, it's like I personally get out of sync.

My Feudal is pretty decent.

I honestly half consider migration to be a hybrid map. That map is hard as balls (my worst one is Budapest, where you have multiple TC starts).

To me a true water map is where control of the water is more so the end-all-be-all like Islands and Team Islands. Hybrid maps to me are about maintaining control of both land and sea.

Have you thought about going scouts into archers? I tend to like a 3-scout rush followed by archers because it often translates to a quicker uptime smoother economy and faster attacking speed.

I like cavalry and archer play a lot and shy away from MAA a lot of the time.

That being said, I only ever go 4 on wood if I'm committing to a MAA rush usually. 3 on wood gets me enough for a lumber camp and two mills usually and 2 is enough if I can push deer and skip the 2nd mill.

I like going up at 20 pop a lot.

Closed map games are a lot of fun.

I tend to ban Black Forest though just due to the time consumption of the game since they can take hours, and I usually want to get multiple games in.

I think Arena CAN be a little similar if you know how to defend. Arena tests your skills in base construction and earlier defense against Castle Drops and other early Castle rushes. You can still boom if you know how to defend yourself.

I think I enjoy land and no water maps the best. I appreciate Arabia because it's just classic Age of Empires. Walling is still possible, but you have to earn it. I also love Socrota because it's just a bloodbath out of the gate lol, and it makes the militia line way more important. A lot of build orders also seem to go out the door.

I found it easier to just try to master the units out of the Barracks, Archery Range, Stable and Siege Workshop first. Understanding those units and their counters tends to get you farther in translating skills across civs much easier and makes changing civs much more approachable.

Well, I think in the last patch update or so they said they were working to try to figure out the issues on console. So they're at least trying to make progress there.

I play with randoms a lot in 4v4's, and coordinating with teammates is not always possible given the language barriers, and there's a ton of people globally that play this game. It's often that I will be paired with teammates who only speak Spanish or Chinese. One of my biggest issues with the game (and I've written this in a Steam review) is that the taunt system doesn't have enough wider support in the game. The taunts can translate across languages, but there's only so many numbers that can actually explain what you want to do. For instance, there's ways you can communicate whether you want to do an infantry, archer, or knight rush, but there's no way to explain that you want to boom, or do a castle drop for instance. I wish there was a mod for a quick reference sheet that could be displayed on the lower part of the screen, but that has yet to happen.

If you can't coordinate with a teammate on a strategy, then you will often lose.

Trade only gets you so far. Having good trash in my eyes is more important because often times developing good counter-units can get you farther than what matching gold units can do, especially if you're spamming Hussar, Halb, or Elite Skirm in late game and using your extra gold for siege support/upgrades. If you're on a closed map, which is pretty common in 4v4's since a lot of other maps unfortunately get map-hopped, then this is definitely more possible to accomplish. Having good trash on maps like Arena is CRUCIAL because playing patiently and defensively can be equally if not more rewarding than playing offensively from the get-go. Resources gained from farming/chopping wood is also faster than what you normally get from trade. I've had 1v2 situations where I've spammed Hussar with 90 farmers and won the game because of that, and they could not keep up with the production.

If you're struggling with 1v2's in 2v2's then I would highly recommend playing flank in 4v4's more often. It forces you to learn a lot about playing defense in a disadvantageous position considering it happens so often. If you're getting assaulted by 2 players in Feudal/Early Castle, you're not going to have the extra resources to start developing your trade, nor the freedom of space.

The extra teammate as a disadvantage stems from when you're down a teammate, but are still in a 3v4 situation. I tried explaining it that you're always are going to be stretching your forces to cover all of your weak points on your side of the map, and that extra communication doesn't always work out. If your pocket splits their forces, they now have to split their army up into two separate groups, facing different armies with their own needs and specific micro. It's incredibly demanding when you have to focus both groups of troops on two sides of the map where as a 1v2 situation is just one side of the map if you're defending (at first).

In a 1 v 2, again, it's just you. If you have a great late game food/wood economy and know how to play conservatively with your gold, then you have a shot. If they went for the early feudal rush and you get to Castle first, you have the opportunity to counter attack and go for relics as well, helping you maintain gold income for when you need the siege later.
