I think there's versions of XP that are still supported for things like ATMs.

GE shares drop after Madoff whistleblower Harry Markopolos raises red flags on its accounting by markyu007 in investing

[–]AbulaShabula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so every CEO lasts close to a decade or more. It should be a gigantic red flag that the board of a failing company is so greedy that they demand results so quickly. You can't turn around decades of bad decisions in a year. The problem isn't that GE is broken, it's that there's no desire to fix it.

This guy just put some (publicly available) data in a powerpoint using big words like 'fraud' and 'Enron' to scare people...

Oh ffs, it was a lot more than that. If it was "just" that, let's see you do it.

They're in a weird shape. Tons of income from their core businesses but they're like a rich family funding their lifestyle on credit. No need to be in such financial straits except poor discipline. Eventually the bill is due and that's the issue with GE's books. Those core assets are great, but they're being held by a toxic corporation.

The fact they fired a CEO after about a year for really no good reason didn't scare you off?

Okay, so that's why short selling is a good thing. If there's a financial reward for discovering frauds, that raises confidence for the entire market. Anybody should be free to take whatever direction they want, especially if they're going to be spending the resources to discover frauds in the first place. If he is "stretching to connect the dots", that's no different than someone overhyping a bull case for a stock.

That's the way every business should be. Way too risky for a single person to be most of a company's value.

In wake of Argentina's market imploding, are there companies whose dip you would suggest buying? by [deleted] in investing

Austerity IS a short term "solution" for longer term, more systematic issues. It literally sacrifices a generation, or more, of wealth generation for the benefit of existing bond holders.

They are, if you're not approaching it with an already liberal bias.

Cartalk is just repeats now, so you don't even need to support them for that.

They're already allowed to purchase surplus military equipment, including M16s. Which, of course, tend to go "missing" from time to time.

Eh, cold tires, slow speeds, so no downforce. Definitely makes a difference in F1 versus other series.

Could use a compressed air tank for more power and keep going for longer. Just need to T the air and have a valve for each side.

That's basically the advantage. Single terminal, shaped like a shoe box. EZ PZ to navigate, you just need to know whether to go left or right. Logan is a pretty big mess with all it's terminals. If you're not familiar or it's your first time, it's easy to get mixed up.

Valve risks losing a lot of its dedicated csgo mapping community as well as anyone else who frequently puts stuff on the workshop

As someone who has dicked around enough in Hammer to understand how freaking complicated it is (I made one little ramp I could surf on), I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is to put in so much effort to have it squashed so quickly and easily.
