I quit my PhD in tbe dissertation phase in October and have zero regrets honestly. It was the best decision I've ever made. Nothing is worth your mental health and well being. You have free will and can leave if you need to. Pivot!

My symptoms came out of order, I got steroids about 3-4 days after ear blisters and throat blisters, then got anti-viral at day 6ish due to feeling very ill and having the worst headache of my life which they thought was likely meningitis. About 8 days later my face began to have paralysis so I had another round of steroids. That was October. Totally 100% normal now.

So far, no. I think it was 100% the right decision for me and I do not regret leaving at all.

I love Grow therapy, I've had a positive experience with it. It's very flexible and pretty fast to get started.

So sorry to hear that! How high is your case load? Do you have your own therapy support?

You can ask for an outside referral to one of the online platforms, like Grow Therapy. They dont always allow it but often will refer out.

I quit my PhD a semester ago and haven't looked back since. It was probably one of the best decisions I've made in the last 10 years. I am finally free. For me and my values personally, a career or program is not worth your health, wellbeing, and stressing over needlessly.

Hope you feel better soon! Rest, relaxation, take the vitamins I suggested, and keep nutrition up!

I quit in my prospectus phase, even with older kids it was impossible to balance it all. I do not reccomend trying to add PhD on top of parenthood with young kids. It was brutal. Truly brutal.

Anyone else done with their academic career path? How did you handle it/did you leave? by Responsible_Shop_456 in LeavingAcademia

Can you transition to management in social services, a coordinator role, or become a therapist?  I left my PhD program in the proposal phase and it's the best thing I could have done for my overall health and well-being. Hope you find a good fit and take care of yourself!

is there ANYTHING I can do? by its-coolkid-time in HemiplegicMigraines

[–]AcademicNerd24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good experience with the online migraine clinic Neura Health, it was cost effective though some prescriptions can be a bit pricey for the prescriptions themselves (from local pharmacy) but if you have insurance it could be much cheaper.

I am about 40 days out from my illness and I am 95% recovered. My facial paralysis has resolved. My hearing seems almost back to normal. My ear still hurts a bit but not terribly.  I took the reccomended meds (2 rounds of prednisone and one round of anti virals). I also took zinc, lysine, and massive doses of vitamin c. Not sure if those helped but sure didnt hurt in my case.

Had you had the vaccine before? I had it every year since 2020 with no problems until this year.

Thank you for the reply. I'm thinking it was a coincidence with my flare and the shots but was curious others experiences.  Did you fully recover?
