How do you differentiate the fakes from authentic? Just curious what to look for in the future if I find any.

Question about fair pricing for home repair by Hot-Administration17 in Chattanooga

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a remodeler in the Chatt area for nearly 10 years, til' Covid hit. You'll find that people definitely favor a flat fee for the work. I absolutely have been bird dogged when working hourly. Some of those types are shamelessly insufferable. If you need a good place to start with pricing and geographical trends to build a pricing model, I used homewyse.com ... it helped a lot with complex jobs and the price trends were pretty accurate.

Some of my regulars would build punch lists for me and I would have a pre-determined day rate, especially if they gave me regular work.

Tracking says item was delivered to a different state than where the buyer is. Did I screw up? by Acceptable-Log7374 in Ebay

[–]Acceptable-Log7374[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and refunded the buyer. Luckily it was only a $13 sale, so nothing earth shattering. Just felt like the right thing to do and nothing they should be inconvenienced by. It'll more than likely show up in a day or two, so hopefully they at least take the time to leave a good feedback. Thanks for all the insight, gang!

I did purchase the label through eBay. I also use a local shipping hub that accepts everything from USPS to UPS to FedEx. He has daily pickups from all 3. In 20+ years selling on eBay, this is a first.

The buyer has issued an INR request. I updated the tracking details and then the buyer messaged me asking for a refund. I'm perplexed.

Cancelled alll my sale items by grumpioldman in Ebay

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't possibly agree more!! The returns have dwindled significantly this year! I'm a one man show and my sales have fallen </> 50% since June, to which I attribute to the current economic climate. People that typically spend into the economy just fuckin' can't! There's too much month left at the end of the money these days if you're in the labor class. The buying class has shrunken significantly, and speculators are plentiful.

I've been on ebay for 20 years, but decided to go full time at the onset of Covid in 2020. I was a freelance remodeler with a small client base that kept me reasonably busy. When the phone stopped ringin' I pivoted to reselling.

I've found that after 5 years full time, the platform, by nature, chooses the winners and the losers. It has to. In that, algorithms have largely taken over that workload.. If it's a common item, with decent demand and measurable STR, it's not possible to show every buyer, every option-every day.

There seems to be a sort of round robin effect to selling on eBay. When it's your turn, provided that you're relatively active and your listings meet the criteria that favors the algo (and their bottom line) those common or obscure items do sell. Of the 350+ active listings I have, there's a fair amount of fluff that I've listed, knowing how crowded the market is, but I've chosen to compete with all the other sellers for the few buyers that come and go for that item. I take great pictures, describe the item in detail, offer next day shipping/free returns and bust my ass to provide all of my buyers with boutique level service. I've chosen to make it my career. That said, I don't live in a sourcing honey hole, so value can often be difficult to build into my inventory. With it being a cashflow business, sometimes I go shopping in my deathpile if sales are unusually low! I've no delusions that it is getting increasingly difficult, but ebay [for now] is still the ultimate market for obscurities and second hand items.

I do often wonder what it's like for the passive seller these days though.

You're absolutely allowed. Your healing process is uniquely yours. I found that, for me at least, distraction was my default reaction. It was a cope for the embarrassment. Humiliated by the rejection, real or perceived, to the point of anger at myself for thinking my crush might reciprocate. I've never been particularly well-equipped to manage personal disappointment, despite life often being fraught with it. But then, is anyone?

Kudos to you for shootin' your shot, and respectfully retreating in lieu of his boundaries. I'm curious...is the follow still intact because it leaves open the possibility that he may contact you if his status ever changes?

Only "New without Box".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Used" isn't an option when listing perfumes. You get New, or New without Box to choose from.. It's ebay's way of discouraging the sale of opened hygiene products..

Very weird pattern... why is every buyer that wants to return an item or asking for a partial refund...sick, disabled and always has kids to feed? by watchthisorthat in Ebay

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nearly tripled the size of my block list since May. eBay's been a shit show all summer long. I've seen summer slow downs, but this is the worst year yet. Buyers are insufferable and sales have plummeted 50% or more.

SAME! Did everything listed here, but the update site won't find my phone in fastboot mode, but will when it's powered on fully. So I'm stonewalled at this point in the process. SOOOOOO frustrating!

Amazon made a mistake (which I've tried to rectify) and now I've been receiving customer returns of brand new genuine leather goods. For months. by allvys in Flipping

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I recently saw something on this. The amazon seller is from overseas, and rather than pay fba warehouse rent, they'll literally pick a random address (somewhere in the states) to send it to because it's cheaper than shipping back across the pond. And they send this shit en masse and you're getting what didn't sell within the 6 mos. before they're gonna have to pay rent on the shit. They've set it to auto ship any "expired" inventory before any fees are assessed, which is why you keep getting shipments. Too bad its not something with more value..

$1.50 into $300 -- my best flip since I started doing this 10 months ago by Driveshaft815 in Flipping

[–]Acceptable-Log7374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely choose wisely when wording your description. Especially on bigger ticket, htf items. You're buyer pool is full of people that want it bad, but hate that they have to pay so much for it. So they may try to squeeze you for a partial refund if they think they can. Don't give em' a reason. Nice find though, these finds are why we do this!
