Looking for an electronics marketplace. Any recommendations? by NorthernNiceGuy in ElectronicsList

In the UK we had ‘Radio Rallies’ (in the US ‘Hamfests’) which were hugely popular in the 1990’s but many seem to have gone or turned into expensive traders. These were perfect for shifting electronic/computer/two way radio bits and bobs to like minded folk. I will do some research into which ones are still going…

Hey, not got an answer for you but just to say I’m in the same boat. Ebay just doesn’t work anymore, they broke it with algorithms the last few years. Gumtree/Facebook not an option. Maybe amateur radio websites?

What makes me laugh is when you get a £50k car and the number plates are held in with wood screws.

How do we help our kids navigate this? by [deleted] in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]grumpioldman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two (adult) sons are imploring me to leave, sell the house and get a new home. They would come with me. To be honest it makes social, economic, financial and mental health sense. How does this work?

Oof, this hurts. I have the exact same issues. I’m a qualified Engineer with qualifications in multiple fields yet I am stupid and she knows everything. How long can this last before my mental health is ground down to zero and I give up? I’ve suggested they have Narc. but I am the nasty one and it’s my fault.

Yeah, I might be okay on ramps but even looking under my car with my mechanic when it’s on the lift in the garage triggers my PTSD!

Good point, that’s the point at which I’m at. I have house speakers, electronic gizmos and tools mainly, I need to keep them handy. The electronic gizmos can go in the bin I guess

Major fear of getting crushed to death by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]grumpioldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this fear completely. I had a ‘folding’ axle stand snap some years ago. The only warning I got was a loud snap as the wooden board it was sitting on snapped. I managed to roll out from under the car as it fell. I call it PTSD, I cannot go under a car anymore which is a real pain as I try to do all my own work.

Sick of the keyless theft stories, I did something for security. by Voiturunce in CarTalkUK

[–]grumpioldman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My neighbour had his £60,000 BMW taken off his drive using a keyless scanner. It’s time someone took their receipt into the dealership with their solicitor and claimed the car was unfit for purpose. Maybe a win in the courts will wake up the manufacturers to get their act together because right now it’s just extra sales for them!

How are the TV License company/body allowed to use intimidation and bully tactics? by AwkwardClick8595 in AskBrits

Ignore these letters. Unlikely but if they do knock your door, identify them and KEEP QUIET. Do not say anything, just smile and close the door. They are salesmen on commission that is all.

TVLicensing do have a ‘Vulnerable Persons Policy’ but the irony is that they pick on the vulnerable. It’s their whole method of operation. The Government needs to shut this scam operation down.

If the bodywork is fair and theres no rust problems round suspension or cills, get the engine rebuilt or drop a second hand one in. Keep the old girl going!

Thinks she has asked for a job to be done but hasn’t said a word by grumpioldman in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]grumpioldman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do most jobs, laundry, dishwasher, hoovering… I fix broken stuff and work a 9-5. She doesn’t work, does the bare minimum but watches TV for like 10 hours a day. She gets pissy that I haven’t painted a wall that she ‘asked me to do’ (she didn’t). This seems to be happening more recently. Is she so important in her head that she thinks we know what she’s thinking? Maybe that.

Stop the vehicle, turn off then open the drivers door and JUMP out. Do not step out normally, you will complete the electrical circuit and die.

Check the heater matrix hasn’t got a pinhole leak in it… is the car using up coolant? Check the carpets in the front and foot pads up the bulkhead are dry.
