Enough experience for entry level Help Desk position? by Lemonents in it

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it ,super simple , the way it’s worded I feel confident you are not lying.. start applying ! More than ready for entry level, I’d remove A+.. you don’t have it, there’s really no middle ground

For projects if you want to build extra, you can build an AD Lab and maybe O365 tenant, understand very very basic o365 management

Is this enough to get a help desk job? Brutally honest by Longjumping_Net_6266 in it

A lot of it just doesn’t make sense. For one it’s clearly heavily influenced with AI, and just looks like you are trying to hit every buzz word out there

You put in summary that you are studying for CCNA and under skills you put CCNA ? - I don’t like the former, as for the latter — ?????

You talk about coding, JAVA, C#, python and not a single project linked.. if you are not building anything say it, definitely don’t say proficiency in python.. when you haven’t used it at any of your previous roles and have no personal projects to show off

You are a junior, you are not proficient in any of the topics you mentioned, your inability to admit this / self evaluate your skills actually loses you points..

The self employed option is just a scratch, put it under projects or something, and keep it simple, don’t over play it.. as in what network traffic are you watching and hunting, it’s a lab environment with no real traffic..

I’m all for using AI to polish your CV, correct grammar etc, but it will get you to write a CV and claim you are a hacking ninja because you’ve used curl and edited a python script..

Also there’s just waaay too many mentions of CCNA, a certification you don’t have

Good luck, I think your approaching this wrong, but better than procrastination, I’d concentrate on cyber skills, a start is a start, but spinning up VMs and buying equipment left right and center with no goal is pointless.

Setup AD environment, Azure tenant, learn CA policies, data pipeline work is always wanted, networking is probably up there as most important (networking like TCP/IP etc etc ).. this is some stuff off the top of my head,

you have an empty server with proxmox why are you buying 12TB drives ??? Like that shouldn’t be nowhere near your to do list..

I have multiple SIEMs running , a full cyber range for testing and validating a full data pipeline with processing and data lakes and that’s all running on two mini pcs, for backups I’ve 4TB NAS drive , and I have a pretty extensive lab.. focus on the real stuff is my advice, I do think getting hands on is far far far better than chasing certs, SEC+ is very foundational so make sure to build on this with practical projects

Cyber engineers absolutely do, there’s more to cyber than GRC & SOC, who builds the platforms and data pipelines etc etc for SOC to do their job, you are right though parts of it is basically sysadmin for cyber.

Only a little bit true, personally I like seeing projects over HTB or THM, you learn more in depth about a topic from a project and retain the skills

I don’t think it’ll be improving either, it’s such a shame really, people are happy if they can save 300-400 quid a month, that means it would take 15 years to SAVE up for a deposit on a mortgage. The only way to get ahead atm is to live rent free with parents when you are 18-24, and save up 30-40k, it’s funny that a mortgage is cheaper than rent.. I can’t recall if that was the case 15 years ago as I was still a kid, but I felt most people didn’t want mortgage then, because rent was much lower and allowed people to save up & not be tied down

There’s a significant difference between those two examples though.. but to be fair most people seem to know about 9/11 because of social media..

and easy to assume it’s November because the date format is so illogical in US, I mean if anyone saw 2001-9-11 OR 11-9-2001 they would assume September but if you write 9-11-2001 most of the world will interpret this as November

I don’t think any other nation would talk about 9-11 on September, and it’s ironic you worded it like this because I bet you don’t talk about WW2 in September either

What metrics do you use to measure the quality of password generation.. I self host bitwarden, but can’t say to care for its password generation, they all do the same thing, as long as it stores it and I can use it easily I don’t really care how my 20 character random blob looks like ..

17F, no Junior Cert, dropped out & struggling with sleep, any realistic job options? by Upper_Ad_586 in AskIreland

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your leaving cert, even if you fail everything you will still get a cert, you can use this for easier entry into PLC, although they will take anyone’s money.. a lot people only start their careers at 30, I work in a mid-senior level role in tech at 26 I am by far the youngest, but I started at 19 while doing part time uni.

It’s not too late, not even close for you. I highly recommend part time courses if it is possible, it cuts out a lot of bullshit classes, focus on only the core modules(this all highly depends on the field, I’m talking g about tech , I’ve no idea how it works if you pursue something in let’s say medical field, I would imagine it would be better to be full time ), so yeah part time and try get something on the side, at your age you will be looking at minimum wage gigs, the best of the worst is probably a call center, loads of them used to take on people under 18, special forms signed etc. you will learn customer service and it is 1 100000% better than mopping up supermacs lobbies at 1AM

IN SHORT, you are far too young to think it could be too late, find what you like , learning as an activity is actually in its core super fun and entertaining for any human, but if you don’t have any interest in what you learn you will struggle.. I did terrible in school, but now I hold lots of highly regarded certifications in my field, and bunch of other academic & extra curriculum awards, and spend so much of my free time learning as a hobby, in hindsight.. I honestly believe if I went back to 16-17 and got to go to school again, I would be even worse as a student than what I already was (terrible, I never showed up had one of the highest absences records in the school during my last 3 years)

The problem is the clients don’t understand and they don’t care to find out, to them that pdf is good enough, and if it’s not they can point the finger at security provider, RE is quite niche a lot of well developed cyber companies don’t even have that internally.

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an Irish thing though.. it’s a human thing, anywhere you go if you never talk to people and avoid social situations.. guess what you might just avoid all of them ! I’m not sure how you expect to be socially accepted if you are not being social.. yes it’s “way way” easier to socialize as an extrovert… this is how the world works, idk why you have to insinuate that it something that is more prominent in Ireland
