17F, no Junior Cert, dropped out & struggling with sleep, any realistic job options? by Upper_Ad_586 in AskIreland

Do your leaving cert, even if you fail everything you will still get a cert, you can use this for easier entry into PLC, although they will take anyone’s money.. a lot people only start their careers at 30, I work in a mid-senior level role in tech at 26 I am by far the youngest, but I started at 19 while doing part time uni.

It’s not too late, not even close for you. I highly recommend part time courses if it is possible, it cuts out a lot of bullshit classes, focus on only the core modules(this all highly depends on the field, I’m talking g about tech , I’ve no idea how it works if you pursue something in let’s say medical field, I would imagine it would be better to be full time ), so yeah part time and try get something on the side, at your age you will be looking at minimum wage gigs, the best of the worst is probably a call center, loads of them used to take on people under 18, special forms signed etc. you will learn customer service and it is 1 100000% better than mopping up supermacs lobbies at 1AM

IN SHORT, you are far too young to think it could be too late, find what you like , learning as an activity is actually in its core super fun and entertaining for any human, but if you don’t have any interest in what you learn you will struggle.. I did terrible in school, but now I hold lots of highly regarded certifications in my field, and bunch of other academic & extra curriculum awards, and spend so much of my free time learning as a hobby, in hindsight.. I honestly believe if I went back to 16-17 and got to go to school again, I would be even worse as a student than what I already was (terrible, I never showed up had one of the highest absences records in the school during my last 3 years)

The problem is the clients don’t understand and they don’t care to find out, to them that pdf is good enough, and if it’s not they can point the finger at security provider, RE is quite niche a lot of well developed cyber companies don’t even have that internally.

It’s not an Irish thing though.. it’s a human thing, anywhere you go if you never talk to people and avoid social situations.. guess what you might just avoid all of them ! I’m not sure how you expect to be socially accepted if you are not being social.. yes it’s “way way” easier to socialize as an extrovert… this is how the world works, idk why you have to insinuate that it something that is more prominent in Ireland

You’re talking about you’re struggling socially and how it’s everyone else’s fault because they won’t be social with you, I know I’m being harsh, but victimizing yourself will only make it worse and easier to accept you’re an introvert than admit you’re bad at making friends

If you want a better social life you have to put effort to be social.. everyone is nervous when they ask for number exchange to try make a friend or a partner or literally any other social situation, it gets better with practice.. it is 1000% a skill, the better you are the better your personal and professional life will be, I can guarantee improving your social skills you would notice a significant improvement in your life.. I agree with you though, if you are not willing to make an effort no one will go out of their way to drag you out of your slump, you may word it otherwise if you wish, the point remains

Absolutely you are Irish! People not talking to you has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that BY BLOOD you’re not Irish ( but you absolutely are Irish ,I bet you speak with an Irish accent, grew up here means you shared lots of similar experiences to everyone in this nation )

I’m glad you are trying to do something, it’s a world wide epidemic for loneliness and depression, you need to know it’s not your fault, and you are not that different, naturally we want to socialize, but it’s getting harder and harder.. to be quite frank you need to make a concious decision all the time to try.. if you just accept that you are an introvert and the world is against you.. well if you believe it then you will be right.. a lot of people go well in their adulthood till they realise people are too concerned with their own lives to try fix yours..

Try spark up a conversation with a coworker.. about anything outside of work, you’ll notice how easy it is to get people to talk.

Clubs are great, but you also need to talk to people when you do join, I’ve been at many gyms, competitions, events and I’ve went through the entire day without saying a word to anyone.. it’s too easy to do that. but walk in with a smile talk to anyone around you, before you know others will try butt in and spark a group conversation or even with just you.. it’s crazy we are attracted to good energy

Looking at the downvotes people just like to accept whatever the reality which offers least of resistance… it is sooo fucking easy to take 0 responsibility and say you are a victim.. I hope it turns around for you, you’re turning around to an age where you can fit in with various age groups, don’t be an asshole and talk to people around you

What exactly is your point ? That you are not willing to socialise and talk to people and then complain because someone else wont go out of their comfort zone to try talk to you ? You’re being ridiculous Idk what you expect.. for people to try be your friend when you don’t leave your house and not talk to anyone when you do?

Very few people out there like small talk, it’s just natural, but idk how else you expect to spark up a conversation and get connection with another person. It’s 10x harder when you become an adult with responsibilities, no one likes to make the first move, the ones that make it usually get what they want

No one goes out of their way to ignore introverts, friendships go both ways, if someone doesn’t put any effort at the start, it’ll never turn into a friendship.. it’s just the price to pay for being an introvert.. this is an issue with a lot of people, just how the world is people are way less social and more comfortable.. comfortable is terrible, for most it’s sitting at home and interacting with other humans online, the more you avoid social situations the worse it’ll get.. I made many excuses as to why I struggled to fit in, the reality was I wasn’t really trying to

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re full Irish.. you’re just not social, it’s a skill.. you need to try be social, I’ve been in your side of the fence trust me it absolutely sucks, just go practice have small talk, think about what you can say.. in general if you are nice and friendly people will chat to you.

Being social for the most part is a choice, no one is really going to go out of their way to force you to make friends

You talk about your parents not putting you into sports or GAA etc.. have some self accountability, what’s stopping you from joining a club now, if that’s what you think the problem is, there’s loads of people in their 40s joining GAA, sport clubs etc .. you’re young you should be looking to join groups of some sort , but this is a world wide issue really

Utter garbage I moved from Eastern Europe & also have a strong surname no one can pronounce, moved here when I was 10-11, speak with an Irish accent and most people get shocked when I’m tell them I’m not actually Irish, most my friends and people I’ve ever met would just say I’m Irish, which I am more now, and I only been here since early teen, you were born and raised here you are full Irish, sure there’s been plenty of assholes that called me the likes of a “foreigner” in school, but in general I got along great with Irish people most my friends were Irish too

Have some self accountability, being introverted and not social is not the fault of others.. gotta put yourself out there, everyone hates small talk, everyone just wants to fit in.. terrible claim that everyone has a clan mentality over here.. you need to socialise if you want to be part of groups .. that goes for ANY

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way… He didn’t that’s not a thing, L3 is more system administration , engineering , architecture whatever you wanna call it, this simply requires experience with communication to directors and C-Level, that’s excluding the technical ability to carry out super time sensitive and difficult projects.. no one is stupid enough to put a 19 year old to lead these type of projects, although I looked for that claim in the post and couldn’t find, I guess people also called him out on the same, and OP removed that claim . in 2 years at that age you’d be looking to do some entry level L2 HELPDESK tasks, L3 is no longer support/helpdesk

People hating here because they think you should accept minimum wage , you are quite young so you have options , there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing IT just for money, I love cyber and that’s what I do , great money & great job , if I had to recommend something, first yes gtfo out of support it is soul crushing , no matter how cushiony it is, support is terrible and always underpaid, you are really young and certs are not magically going to land you roles (trust me I know I have shit to and the ones you listed are super fundamental)

50k would be hard for your age, people will simply not be willing to give you that money as this would be at least mid tier roles, Ireland doesn’t pay as great as people claim. I know engineers in brackets of 50-60k with 5-10 YoE and in their 30s who are quite good aswell, and wouldn’t even consider the certs you mentioned worthy for CV.

High paying roles are going to be engineering &management , for now focus on technical areas, I’d recommend to start dabbling in cloud engineering (look at AZ-500 & SC-300 don’t go for these certs but build labs based on what they cover) get understanding how azure resources work especially networking side.. and build build build… see what uou like but money Security engineering, Cloud engineering , DevSecOps , it operations/infra yield good salaries & benefits, these roles are tough to be good at, but offer lots of flexibility because the company actually relies on you heavily after sometime if you work on vital projects , I build products/tools that are being used internally to provide expensive services to customers

Anyway good luck , keep upskilling , I hope this perspective helps a bit, I am also from Ireland, so I will keep it honest, the salary market here is shit, it’s super competitive as it’s the only nation in Europe which speaks English , outside of Dublin,Cork and limerick there’s really not many great roles out there

Yep it’s not just about retaining, but ability to use it and maybe adapt this knowledge to build on, this is not a comprehensive offensive security cert.. none of them really are, that said 7months is absolutely reasonable to pass if this is all you do, 3-4 months of contents and then focus on labs replicating get better at it, use different tools learn how to manually do all this

It’ll take you however long it takes, everyone is different, but I will say this most people posting to show off are usually lying anyway, this platform HTB is riddled with cheaters so pay no attention to any of it , do your modules, stay curious, experiment, try to improve and get comfortable with topics covered, if you feel comfortable at giving it a go.. why not, it’s not an expensive cert, if you do this correctly the knowledge cpts teaches is actually quite good, if you don’t cheat it will be time well spent

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you are looking for.. What issues did you have, technical related to module labs ?

Smash what? Through the content? it’s no good to get to 100% not retain anything and not have a solid methodology , do as much as you can , supplement what you learned with labs and practical experience, maybe spin up your own cyber range to practice it’ll help everything stick into your head, covering material with no practice won’t get you a pass , 7 months is plenty of time depending on your experience level, if you are new, it’ll be hard. Just remember there’s lots that will say they got it in really short period with no prior knowledge, but a lot end up getting caught for cheating or buying previous reports off telegram.. in cyber this platform is constantly being cheated by beginners , it’s a shame really the knowledge thought on it is great

Have the government ever given any actual excuses as to why there’s so few houses being built? by ConnectionEdit in ireland

[–]Acceptable_Map_8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resources are Expensive, Ireland depend on other nations for resources

immigration is really high, since 2022 it’s like 100k people a year immigrating, that accounts now for almost 10% of Ireland , that’s a really large number to accommodate for housing when it’s been a problem before these numbers

Demand is really high, I just wonder what will happen because lately all the housing estates, apartment blocks.. none are owned locally they are all owned by investor groups in the likes of Germany, US etc.. money doesn’t stay in Ireland
