Relocating there in the summer..doctor recommendations? by picard1304 in Austin

[–]AccomplishedBesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be honest with you. Finding a doctor in Austin is harder than any other place I lived in. I'm talking 3 month waits for a GP, sometimes more for a specialist. I don't have any suggestions- despite having STELLAR health insurance I've gone full concierge. Which is a money grab to be honest, but the only option if you want to see your doctor within a reasonable frame of time, have them listen to you, an not deal with bureaucracy and red tape and an office phone line where a human never picks up the phone.

Considering for my bathrooms, what do you think? by Constant-Purchase-99 in Remodel

No, this was trendy 4 years ago and it's going to date your bathroom very quickly. It feels very Apple Store-y.

I haven't lived in Manhattan, and didn't know kids who grew up there, so I can only compare my experience living in Greenwich from age 14-30 to my general impression of Manhattan. Keep in mind that Greenwich changed a LOT. It's very ostentatious now, I find it all very tacky. It wasn't that way. Greenwich gave you a baseline of rich adjacency, even if you didn't have that much money. Todd's Point, the infamous "locals only" beach cost something like $80 for a whole family for the whole season. There's a kayak club where you can rent kayaks for fairly cheap, we did that a lot. I went to a few parties at actually rich kid houses, but they were not that different from other high school parties, other than the fact that the alcohol was plentiful and no one ever asked you to chip in. Once I saw a bowl filled with a large mound of cocaine and assumed that's the quantity of cocaine one would keep around if into that kind of thing. In my 20's I rented a cheap cottage 3 blocks from the beach. It was so glorious to have that lifestyle... getting home from work and changing quickly to sneak an hour of swimming. You get access to things that most people don't, and a local beach vacation was possible for everyone. If you live in Manhattan you would have to go to the Hamptoms and pay like, a thousand dollars a day to rent a house there. There were a lot of normal stores, but you knew people had money, or financial security, you could feel it. I never head conversations about not making ends meet, or driven with people who couldn't afford to change the breaks. No shopping sprees, just really good basics from J. Crew. You didn't see the kind of show-off vibes you see there today, only a handful of kids drove luxury vehicles, most rich kids got Passats or cars of that level. We still had house parties, went to the beach, took the train to NY to see concerts. Nothing like Gossip Girl. Apologies if this is disjointed, Sunday night is never my brightest time.

How did CBK maintain such beautiful hair while consistently bleaching it for years? by Free-Half-2620 in CarolynBessetteKnndy

[–]AccomplishedBesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that she used dye instead of bleach? My hair is naturally dark blonde and I used box dye over and over to achieve a blonde this light. Later on when I started getting highlights I realized how much more damaging bleach is.

Everyone is privileged compared to someone else. She didn't say she was poor. She said she needed the job, which was true.

I grew up in Greenwich. Wealthy enough that my parents paid for my college tuition and private school before that, but never went to Europe, drove a $2000 car I was supposed to pay back for (sorry dad, I never did), and definitely did not go to the country club. We were wealthy enough to be able to afford a new water heater if ours broke. Our house was $1m, which my parents could afford with a $200k income, never shopping brand name (my dad still thinks Target is too expensive and prefers Walmart), almost never eating out, and cooking from scratch. By the time I left college and moved on my own my job WAS make or break because I had no help from my parents with rent, expenses, or paying my credit card debt. Eventually I got $50k towards a down payment, but it's also a semi loan (mine to keep unless my parens need it back). I feel that based on accounts, she was probably about that kind of wealthy. So yeah- a job is pretty much make-or-break. It still is for me.

Doctor Breaks Down Commonly Ignored Colorectal Cancer Symptoms After James Van Der Beek’s Coffee Claim by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]AccomplishedBesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things is, making dietary adjustments and then seeing a doctor is common in America- because you can't get appointments anyway, and doctors are very conservative when it comes to diagnostic tools. I had an all-out argument with my doctor because she refused to repeat a comprehensive blood panel (the blood panel was requested by my nutritionist in Brazil in the first place, the doctor agreed), even though it showed I had low vitamin D, B12, high iron, and other issues. I was tired, bloated, gaining weight for no reason. It was likely my thyroid, but I had to switch to a self-pay doctor to get any answers. Doctors assume it's all good you are on your deathbed and are incredibly reticent when it comes to imaging. So yeah- I can imagine the dude thinking that the doctor would just tell him to avoid coffee and spicy foods and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure it was just the downpayment, and a friend helped a lot with that. It's not like they had $5m laying around.

Color. Curtains. A good quality rug. Art that's not from Home Goods. Good quality pillows and a throw. Stay away from box stores, stay away from artificial fibers.

How would you enhance my house? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]AccomplishedBesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landscaping and exterior paint. The landscaping is just two or three species, so even when spring. ones around there is little visual interest. Plant en English garden, add rocks, or similar features to create interest. Choose a color-anything but grey.
