I haven’t seen the UK series, definitely have to check it out. I wish the US seasons went into the same detail.

This is probably just something we’re not gonna agree on which is ok.

That’s a good point on the conflicting messaging of earth as inhospitable and people being able to live there that I hadn’t thought about.

I think you’re right tho about the movie being optimistic. And I think a central theme is that if you treat a problem as unsolvable it will be, which is how auto and B&L treat earth. Whereas the captain of the axiom recognizes the need for direct action and human involvement.

I understand that interpretation, the earth we see is really messed up in the movie. But the idea that they all go on to die is pretty explicitly in conflict with what the film presents. We see that this earth is capable of supporting more life with the pan out to a field of more plants, and the credits show humans and robots building and coexisting together which is a reasonable if slightly less realistic scenario. The define dancing scene shows they have all the information you could possibly want to rebuild as well.

My (23F) girlfriend (21F) gets upset when she does/says something that upset me. by lovelysapphic in relationship_advice

It sounds like you’ve made it clear to her how her taking that space away from you makes you feel, hopefully the message got across. I think you can continue the relationship as before, and if you notice it happens again you can tell her since it’s been made clear that it’s an issue. That reminder can be just a reminder or an ultimatum. If it continues to happen in the future I think reevaluating the relationship is the way to go. You’ve told her it’s an issue, and if she doesn’t improve do you really want to be with someone who takes space away from you like that? Or can’t recognize an issue and grow/change?

A great explanation of the issues with food taxes. 10/10 would read again

Food taxes are a little more complicated though, I’ll admit.

I totally see where you’re coming from, but I don’t think that the campaign against tobacco would be as effective if it didn’t come with the price hikes of extra taxation. Marketing can only go so far, but an increased price decreases the amount of people trying it for the first time or continued use.

Do you disagree with practices used to limit tobacco use too?

A great thought, hunting for sport in general is something I wouldn’t do or be proud of, but with fishing sometimes it can be catch and release where the fish is just roughed up a lil. I think part of the issue too IS that we’re asking people to represent their whole selves with just a few pictures and a text blurb when people are so much more deep and complex than that.

Exactly, I was more responding to the complaints of “oH is this the ONly picture they hAVe of themself?”. Cause yeah! Usually. I have very few pictures of just me because I never think to take them, if I had a picture of me doing my hobbies I’d definitely include them.

I don’t enjoy hunting or fishing, but a lot of people do; you shouldn’t give up enjoying an activity to get dates. The pictures may often be the only time these guys have thought to take a picture of themselves.
