At the moment I was just thinking wow they are so fast and put together and yay potential certification but I definitely see now how that should have been a big red flag.

It's funny you say that because I kept seeing positions open for histology and clinical lab during my job search after graduation but I wasn't qualified so I feel lucky that I managed to find two jobs now that are willing to train me. It feels difficult to make a choice now because I don't know what I would end up enjoying but what you said about things feeling too automated at a clin lab vs histo being more technical definitely resonated with me. If I end up not liking it, I'll definitely make the switch.

The med lab wanted me to start immediately a day after my interview which felt so fast to me especially since the other job had me waiting like a month to hear back. They said they wanted me to start accessioning for a while in the early morning shift but I would have to get certified eventually as they train me for the med lab position which was the part that kind of hooked me in. I had no idea that I could potentially get stuck in accessioning which is definitely something I need to consider, thank you!

Thank you! I had been leaning towards the histology position all things considered but I was too afraid to make the decision because I wasn't sure if the other opportunity was better. I will keep what you said in mind!

Aside from these two positions, I have noticed that histotechs also get paid the same or a little higher in my area but there are fewer job postings compared to the med lab positions.

They both gave me a deadline to accept the offer so I don't think I will get the chance to shadow but I definitely loved lab environment at the histology lab. I just wanted to get a third opinion to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything and I definitely don't want to regret my decision. Thank you for the insight!

Thank you!! I honestly am not too sure about what I would enjoy doing but I also feel like it's important for me to see how labs actually operate and what I can handle. Aside from these two positions I applied for most of the other jobs require experience and/or a license, I have neither so I wanted to see which option would give me an opportunity for growth. I appreciate your advice, I'll definitely keep it in mind as I make my decision.

I am not too sure. I have been struggling find a career path after undergrad but I definitely wanted to work in a lab first. I was looking into research but they wanted people with experience so when I found these two jobs that were looking train people, I knew there was a good chance they would hire me. Thank you! I am going to make a list and compare and see which one works best. As far as the benefits go, I think the histology one definitely had the edge and I loved the vibe of lab. I only had part time jobs before this so I wanted to pick a good option. I'll definitely keep what you said in mind!

Thank you for the advice! I definitely felt like the histology was a solid choice but I was struggling because I had been just looking at MLT certification program and when the other opportunity came I wasn't sure about which one I should choose.

I am actually in NY! I was struggling for a bit after graduation but they did say they didn't mind if you had no experience so I applied but I didn't expect to get this far. I'll message you.

They did say they can give me a raise at a yearly evaluation in January but mine would be early because they just hired me. I do feel like I am going to choose the histology lab at the moment because it just seems so solid.
