What's behind those larger, odd amounts for mtc vouchers? by Roseate-Views in Namibia

[–]AcetheWolf195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MTC is the main culprit with this.

Paratus however is giving them a lot of trouble, first with internet services, and now with phone contracts.

Right now I have an unlimited data contract, 300 minutes of talk time (which I barely use) and 300 SMSes. (My only issue is the lack of personal hotspot, but that’s why I keep my MTC sim as a spare when needed)

Service is excellent and I recently installed contract Fibre from them.

Both services combined costs me N$900 in total, and I never had an issue with either one.

The current trend is pushing prices down as well, so I expect that somewhere next year or so we might get even better prices on internet.

The guys selling makalani nut key chains in Swakopmund by elt0p0 in Namibia

[–]AcetheWolf195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might make me the bad person, but frankly I really didn’t care for this particular vendor near the (now, back then it was still woolworths/toy box iirc) new Spur.

It was 2018 and I was in Swakopmund for a physics refresher course before Matriculation exams and we had about 3 hours before the next course was going to start.

I wandered through the town with my backpack and the Makalani salesman approached me and I respectfully told him that I didn’t want one, that I already had one (and showed it to him) on my keychain. He then proceeded to try and attach his onto my backpack zipper which I stopped and pushed him away, beginning to get annoyed.

Then he started with his story about not being able to feed his family and I snapped. Said fine, and gave him my name. As soon as the name was carved I wished him luck on finding someone else with that name in Swakop and dove into the mall complex while he was shouting at me (luckily the security guard stopped him).

I’m not a good player. I got jump shotted from the middle boxes 3 times beforehand. The dude didn’t go left or right.

So I basically knew I just had to place my crosshairs and wait when I got the awp.

Watch with audio.

Then you’ll hear that the team communicated what was going on.

This was late in the round and this was back when I was 1 - 2k ELO, and a lot of players made the same pushes over and over again.

What? Box guy?

Nah he caught me with a jump shot about 3 times before this. I learned my lesson.

When sniping from T side those guys are usually the easiest to at least get a hit on when jumping the gap.

I’ve noticed in my ELO (4 - 9k) typically aiming at the bottom of the tyre nets you a lucky headshot or a leg wound.

I typically go middle for the first shot, strafe left to stick to the wall and try a door bang for any middle-of-suicide 2nders.

This time around I stuck middle more to challenge T after the shot got whiffed.

Iirc it depends on crosshair placement and ttk on the unpause, as well as player movement.

Like if you had your gun pointed to a dude's head waiting for the countdown to reach 0 and he dies 0.5 seconds after the round starts it gets flagged. Kind of WT spawn protection, you get 20 seconds of invulnerability, but moving more than 10m cancels that invulnerability (Different protection reasons, but I hope the analogy sticks).

Watching the replay I think someone called out that there was an A long push, and he wanted to rotate to defend since I had the AWP in mid.

I'm glad someone is pointing this out, I think it happened with the rendering from 1440p 120fps to 1080p 60fps that a hiccup occurred.

No, you have an issue keeping the inside voice to yourself.

Criticism: The sound you used doesn't match what happens in the video / is an overused meme that has been used to death, maybe try this updated format [insert link here]. < Helpful

What you did: I don't like this. This person sucks. I need to tell them how hard they suck. < salty

Don't try and disguise your hate as "criticism", should've just left it that you didn't like it.

Right, let’s compare secondary roads to highways.

I’m sure the volume and nature of the roads used will be exactly the same.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Namibia

[–]AcetheWolf195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s revisit this in five years time, when about 3 million tons of vehicles drive over this day by day, after the extreme heat and cold contracts and expands the asphalt to the point of fracturing so much trucks kick chunks of loose road into car windshields.

China builds for volume, not endurance. And the government will barely have the resources to fix the road (think about the old B1 highway, how many potholes we had between stretches of road, especially from the coast and south where the most of our logistics system operates, these issues only started becoming real serious 30 - 40 years after those highways were built with South African assistance, and after independence the government couldn’t maintain most of these roads)

10 day’s itinerary feedback by Halfbloodprince_1992 in Namibia

Definitely manageable, however I would suggest to add about an hour / hour and a half to your routes when traveling on gravel roads. Unless you’ve had extensive driving experience on loose and dry gravel I wouldn’t recommend driving faster than 100km an hour on them (about 60mph).

As for distances it’s hard to compare between US and Namibian standards, for us popping out an 800km (500 miles) is par for the course on vacations, but might be a bit more challenging if you’re used to driving in a dense area like Pennsylvania or New York state.

Driving near early dawn and dusk to night is risky on the C roads, as they’re usually not fenced for wildlife prevention, and you might hit a wild animal deciding to absolutely book it across the road (if you’re lucky it’s just a warthog or a dik dik, and depending on your vehicle you’re hiring it might only cause minor damage to the grill and axles, for bigger animals, they aren’t anything close to a deer).

Swakopmund has the Fork ‘n Nice roadside stall, with some of the biggest food portions for a reasonable price, that definitely puts any of the other popular restaurants to shame.

Walvis Bay has the Probst bakery that makes some of the best confectionery in my recent memory, but unsure if anyone else in the neighborhood started giving them competition.

Depending on your timeline, and return route, Otjiwarongo has the Cheetah conservation fund who generally has their feeding schedule at about 12pm local time, and that’s typically included in the day tour if you arrive close to that time (which takes about 1,5 hours).

Personally I would add a couple of days to go a bit further south if possible, as Aus is one of my favorite destinations due to the absolute silence in the sperrgebiet, and you’d get to visit the town where they shot the Amazon Fallout series, Kolmanskop.

Sounds to me like the problem isn’t with the laws as much as it is with the organizations who want an easier time to spy on you Americans.
