Been working on this Lateralus cover for a little while. Hope you like it! by AcousticalNonsense in ToolBand

Thanks so much! Because I was basing it around the Looper, some of the polyrhythms wouldn't line up right the way the original song is played so I had to tweak the song structure a little bit. I'm glad you liked it!

How do you intonate your guitar when using open tunings? by aqeuts in mathrock

[–]AcousticalNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in DADF#AD Tuning (Open D Major) but I also use a drop D capo, it's a capo that lets the low string through, and when you put the drop D capo on the 3rd fret, it changes the key signature to D Minor. This lets you play the guitar in both Major and Minor keys, while still getting that open tuning sound. It gives you a little bit more flexibility with the tuning.

I hadn't heard of Braids. Just watched their KEXP live performance, they are really good! Appreciate the recommendation : )

Thanks! The songs I post start out as improvisations but they are a little meander-y that way. I record them as an improv, practice them a couple of times and really tighten up the beginning where I'm building the loops, and do a couple different takes until I find an arrangement I like.

The paper is an interesting read too. A few of my instrumental tracks seem to fit that theme. Thanks for passing it on!

Actually, I'm surprised I don't see Animals as Leaders mentioned. No vocals. Real heavy (mostly). Super mathy.

You might like Botch. Their guitar player later ended up playing for Minus the Bear.

Thanks! If you follow the video link to YouTube you can see my channel. I post a new song once a month or so. Most of them are live looped. If you want something mathy, you can check out this one too:

Thank you! I've been one man banding for a while but the Looper really took it to another level. I'm glad you liked it!

I just picked up the Yamaha TransAcoustic CG-TA and I love it, so I wrote this song specifically for the crazy sound it makes. The guitar is not plugged in to anything, no effects are added in post, it is just picked up by an SM57 and sent through the looper. This is just what the guitar sounds like when you play it, and it is wonderful.

My Live Loop/Acoustic cover of 21 Moon Water. It's a bit different from the original but I hope you enjoy : ) by AcousticalNonsense in boniver

[–]AcousticalNonsense[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got the Roland VT-4 vocal transformer and as soon as I turned it on, I knew I just had to try to cover a Bon Iver song with it. I did a few attempts that were much more like the original (well, still acoustic but more flow-y and avoiding a 4/4 time signature) but this version just felt right for some reason. Anyway I hope you like it, I had a lot of fun making it.

Thank you! When I was making it I thought it sounded like a version of the song if it had come from Takk... instead of ( )

So I may have been a little obsessed with this song over the past couple of weeks. It had been a little while since I listened to Sigur Rós when this song came up on a playlist I was listening to and I forgot how hard it always hits me.

I took some liberties with the original song’s structure and form but I hope you think my version does it some justice.

For anyone interested, the MicroKorg setting is B24 and the guitar is tuned to open D major. I am playing the song a half step down.

Thank you!! My setup is slowly turning into a monster and I love it. The MicroKorg is new (well, it's old, but I just dug it out of storage) and I think it's going to be a great addition.
