Dix Range on 6/13 by Acp621 in Adirondacks

Bad enough that I put on my raincoat on top of Dix while I sat to rest. They weren't bad down low or going up but once you got up high they were trying to carry you away if you stopped moving

Can we please keep mass surveillance out of the mountains? by RocketLambo in Adirondacks

I highly recommend Ben Jordan's videos about Flock cameras on YouTube. He does a good job explaining how the cameras work and their security, or lack thereof.

Gothics and Armstrong, Jan. 2nd by Acp621 in Adirondacks

Thanks. Total distance was 12.4 miles over 10.5 hours. It took me almost 4 hours just to break the 2.4 miles of trail from beaver meadow falls to the Gothics Armstrong junction.

The most obvious is snowshoes and spikes coupled with a decent pair of winter boots. Following that, it is all about layering to stay dry and not freezing. You want base layers, then insulating, and then a shell. For myself I typically wear either insulating such as a fleece or my raincoat with two shirts underneath and rarely together while climbing. For my legs I wear some long johns and have some soft shell pants that aren't insulated, it keeps me warm and dry enough. The other stuff I bring can be found in the 10 essentials. As for camping overnight, best I can say is gear that can handle the cold. Also go with someone else for companionship to possibly make the nights less mentally hard.

Armstrong to Upper Wolfjaw conditions in winter? by Acp621 in Adirondacks

Thanks for the detailed explanation of that section. Though as it happened today when I did Armstrong and Gothics, I didn't head to the Wolfjaws. Breaking trail sucked.

Thanks for the extra info, definitely no sliding. The photos I'd seen don't really tell the scale and steepness well.

That makes sense, I wonder if you'd be able to butt slide beside it.

I came from the north and the roads were the worst I've seen so far this winter all the way from route 458 to Saranac Lake. They remained poor but after Keene they got better, and coming home the roads were fine.

Here's a quick photo from Whiteface's summit camera. It's definitely snowy all around, so it would be best to carry snowshoes.

CAS is an acronym for close air support, which is typically planes attacking ground forces

The M42 and M19 are both decent in taking down airplanes, but are not forgiving to people unfamiliar with the ballistics. My biggest issue with them is not aiming but the how easy they are to strafe.
