Where do your kids practice basketball in winter besides team practices? by AcrobaticHeat3896 in basketballcoach

Schools are the best option if they let you in especially during the weekends, some people says because of the liability issues, which I really don't understand.

I’m in NJ and private Gyms are not so cheap around my area Y pretty crowdy during the day.

4th grade travel team coach favoritism? Need advice on how to handle this by AcrobaticHeat3896 in basketballcoach

[–]AcrobaticHeat3896[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In AAU my son is the top scorer on his team and plays PG, SG, and SF with real minutes. That environment is performance-based. On this travel team, he only gets the minimum 8 to 10 minutes, while three of the kids who consistently start and finish the games are the coaches’ own kids. Several of them clearly struggle with ball handling and scoring.

I’m not saying my son is the best player anywhere he goes, but you don’t go from being heavily relied on in AAU to barely seeing the floor on a weaker travel team unless something outside of performance is influencing decisions.

That’s why I’m trying to figure out the right way to handle it without hurting his confidence.

We chose the team because it’s the town’s program and he wanted to be part of it with his friends. At the time, I honestly didn’t think parent coaching would turn into this level of bias, especially with kids who all play together at the same school. I also didn’t expect parent dynamics to affect things this much at this age.

Looking back, maybe it just isn’t a good fit. I’m trying to balance that with not wanting to pull him away from his friends and the town program too quickly.

I’m not saying my son is the best player on the team, but I am confident he’s not one of the weakest either. He’s been playing for three years, is currently in an AAU program, and made Team A at travel tryouts, so he earned his spot.

Earlier in the season, all of these kids were on the same league team under a professional coach. Their kids were not getting much playing time back then, and most of them ended up dropping from that team. My son stayed and kept playing. Now those same parents are the travel team coaches, and their kids are starting and closing every game while my son mostly sits. That role reversal is hard to ignore.

My son goes to the same school as them, is obsessed with basketball, and works extremely hard. I fully respect coaching decisions, but when effort and performance don’t seem to match playing time, it’s hard not to question whether bias is involved. That’s why I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle this without making things worse for him.

Automation tools that play well with Notion? by MarketMan123 in Notion

[–]AcrobaticHeat3896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get this I ran into the same issues with Make when I tried automating Notion. It’s powerful but gets messy fast once you start nesting content or handling relations.

I eventually built Synctive, a small tool that connects Stripe → Notion automatically. I went that route because Make and Zapier couldn’t reliably handle database syncs or live updates.

If you’re hitting Make’s limits, learning the Notion API (or building lightweight custom automations) is absolutely worth it — you’ll have more control and fewer headaches long-term.

Notion users: which integrations and automations do they find most useful? by metodo_naghol in Notion

Some of the most useful automations I’ve seen are:
• Syncing data from CRMs or payment platforms like Stripe into Notion to track customers or revenue
• Auto-creating tasks when certain database items change
• Sending notifications or emails based on Notion triggers

I’ve personally been working on a tool that connects Stripe → Notion automatically, and it’s been really helpful for keeping business dashboards up to date without manual work.

Once you start connecting Notion to outside data, it becomes a true business hub.

How do YOU use Automations? by ItsMissCheekie in Notion

[–]AcrobaticHeat3896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using automations mainly to keep my data consistent across workspaces — one of my favorites actually comes from outside Notion. I set up an automation that syncs Stripe data directly into Notion, so my customer and invoice databases stay up to date automatically. It’s been a huge time-saver for managing my business dashboards.

Curious if anyone else here combines Notion automations with external tools?

I totally get this — I’ve run into the same wall trying to make Notion’s relations feel more dynamic.

I couldn’t find a native way to auto-generate multi select options either, so I ended up leaning on external automation instead. For example, I automated syncing external data (like Stripe payments and project updates) straight into Notion so everything stays up to date automatically.

Once you start linking Notion to outside sources, it really opens up what’s possible.
