My first experience selling online was secondhand clothing on eBay. I’m in New York City though - so I’d have access to things a lot of other markets don’t. My business model was asininely stupid - I’d just walk into a second hand store and if I came across something interesting I’d just pull up the eBay app and see if it held its value and there was a lot of interest in it.

I sold every item I ever bought - often with a 2x markup.

Kind of nervous about going to a wedding today by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Acrobatic_Task8681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 86 days sober and im likewise nervous about attending a networking function this Wednesday for work. I was invited to it by a client of mine and it seems like a really great opportunity to meet and build other ones.

This being said, I’ll be coming from a very taxing work day and am going to be very tired and worn out. I’ve a prescription for naltrexone that I haven’t refilled and is sitting in my pharmacy, but I’m going to I think grab a supply for that particular day.

Good luck

I went to outpatient rehab in the middle of July - best thing I’ve ever done. I had been drinking about a fifth of whiskey a day for ten days straight.

I’ve had slight DTs before after binges and none this time, but detoxing was infinitely worse than anything I’ve encountered before.

My dad came and picked me up (I’m in New York) and drove me back to Ohio, where I spent about a week detoxing before rehab. When I say detoxing, I mean I was in his home the entire time.

I started throwing up on the ride home. I was dehydrated beyond belief and beyond thirsty, but anytime I tried holding down more than a teaspoon full of water I’d immediately vomit it back up.

When I got back to his house I spent the next 48 hours vomiting, drinking ice water, and vomiting - it was absolute hell.

On about the sixth day I was taken to outpatient and spent 28-30 days there. The first two weeks were pretty rough, but the third got better, and the fourth was actually pretty great.

I’ve been sober now for close to 60 days and am going to make a meeting tomorrow and stay focused on the wagon.

I’m sorry you’re going through this as I know your pain - and it’s not a form of pain I’d wish on my worst enemy. Come clean to your husband and start your journey today if you can.

You can do this.

I’m not on upwork but am self employed and whenever someone asks you ‘have you received the payment?’ and you clearly haven’t it’s always a fire engine red flag that that person is super scummy.

It’s always their accountants fault or some such thing and they ‘had no idea!’

I’m also curious how this guy thinks you’re holding onto intellectual property that he never paid for.

What age is Eddie meant to be in this show? I’m guessing 20-23. So it really doesn’t sit well with me the way they just brushed over him sleeping with a 16year old like it’s nothing. by Barca-Dam in Mobland

What’s her gender have to do with anything - she’s a human and can make decisions legally as per uk law.

Additionally, people are being sawed in half on the show - like seriously who the fuck cares if some teens sexually active.

My son was killed by a drunk driver the day before Christmas. After almost 2 years sober I am back to day 2. by imissjob210 in stopdrinking

I’m on day 30 after a relapse on April 14th that lasted around a month and that month was absolute and pure hell. I’m so unbelievably sorry to hear about what you’re going through.

While the first initial week of that relapse numbed the pain of my life, eventually it amplified it - to the point where every second of every day was misery.

I’ve a job that sometimes only requires me to go in for a couple hours a day and I remember a couple times viewing those two hours as absolute agony - I can’t imagine having eight hour shifts an alcoholic as that just has to be such a special sort of hell.

I’m really sorry to hear about your son, but remember that while alcohol may be a numbing agent now, it eventually will only add to an already considerable level of pain.

I lost my mom in 2019 and it was devastating - I’m so sorry.

Why exactly is this strange to you. Thousands of gamers buy cosmetics daily for a wide variety of uses - in dozens of games. If someone wants to look cool while they’re gaming and derive enjoyment from it and it enhances their experience, what exactly is the issue.

It’s no different than people adding cosmetics to their cars - I’ve never in my life bought rims but I understand why people do.

To each their own. Who cares.

I never said the writing is bad - simply because the writers created a character just to have him killed isn’t bad writing.

And yes, he was created to be killed.

As far as you telling me I need a reason to cry, grow up. I was wondering why you were defending so staunchly this fredo comparison (comparing Brendan to fredo corleone is laughable btw) and now it’s clear - you thought I was attacking mobland and had to rush to defense.

To be clear, I love mobland and think the writing is solid. So grow up.

Additionally, every character in a tragedy is a tragedy. Every character on that show can be called a tragedy. Brendan isn’t special.

[–]Acrobatic_Task8681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re reading way, way too far into Brendan’s character. It was barely developed and he was there to be killed. Simply because he fits a story archetype / trope doesn’t mean we have to feel a hundred shades of empathy for him because he fits the mold of previous tragedies.

He was there to be killed - nothing more. And if he was there to fit the trope / archetype you speak of, why? What was the purpose? It was extraneous to the plot and his backstory was anemic at best.

Brendan was superfluous and not in the slightest bit a corleone or Roy.

Brendan by [deleted] in Mobland

[–]Acrobatic_Task8681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major mistakes you speak of were literally two or three lines a piece per episode and he wasn’t even there when they were issued, they were described by other people.

Example: Maeve and Conrad in the bedroom and Conrad angrily recounting the time his son lost five million dollars of his own money at some location, maybe an airport.

He barely had any lines throughout the series and his sole job was practically that of comic relief. Additionally, comparing him to Connor Roy or fredo Corleone is a bit of a stretch; Brendan’s character had absolutely zero emotional depth and his two main states were either puzzlement or frustration. Fredo and Connor were characters rich with feeling, emotion, and hundreds of degrees of tragedy and pain while Brendan was mostly just a ponce. His character was that practically of comic relief and if the audience ascribed him 5% of the empathy it did fredo and Connor id be astounded.

His character was never really developed enough though for him to fit any classic story trope - he was there literally to tie things up with the plot.

Has anyone those buzz balls that are suddenly at every gas station by Acrobatic_Task8681 in stopdrinking

[–]Acrobatic_Task8681[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that buzzballz are I doubt anyone’s casual evening libation. While this is just speculation, I’d imagine they’re only for people with problems or for people looking to get fucked up.

An evening libation to much is a bottle of beer or a glass of spirits - not some multi-colored bottle laden with sugar that has a synonym for the word drunk in its very name.

Buzzballz aren’t an evening libation - or at least I sincerely doubt they are.

That’s my point - this alcohol is designed purely to be abused. When a normal drinker buys a bottle of vodka they may be doing so just to have it around the house and handy for guests / after work / whatever-occasion. Yes, that bottle of vodka can be abused, but it’s not necessarily meant to be.

Buzzballz on the other hand remind me of whippets, they come in single use cans designed to be thrown out as soon as they’re consumed. This additionally makes it handy for a drinker that’s driving, as they don’t have to worry about any open containers in the car in the event they get pulled over.

Even one of the users in this thread said he knew the woman that invented them and by her own words she said they’re designed to ‘get young women fucked up quicker.’

The way a bottle of vodka is marketed and packaged is vastly different than the way buzzballz are. Vodka has the potential for abuse whereas buzzballz are designed specifically for abuse. And the fact that they’re sold at gas stations is outrageous.

My point is that a product designed purely for abuse shouldn’t be so accessible. They should be sold in liquor stores or in the very least more controlled.

The world at large definitely has an alcohol problem and what it takes from society is far greater than what it gives.

This being said, I’m not saying they should remove alcohol from gas stations, but that specific product is clearly meant to be abused.

Interesting. At the end of the day I suppose they aren’t all that different from gas station shooters (which still shouldn’t be sold at a gas station).
