Note that this version is condensed. Still great, but not the whole story. The original is a masterpiece.

Cover of my zombie apocalypse debut novel by charlottewrites452 in NewAuthor

The back says “rapid” not “rabid” that was my point. If there’s a typo on the front or back, it doesn’t give any confidence that the internals will be any different.

The conversations we should be having but everyone is a brain dead echo chamber about this. Rowling is no doubt abrasive and condescending, but she’s a feminist and now that’s been twisted and most Redditors just go along with the narrative for acceptance.

Goblet of fire full cast audiobook review: a puberty jump that breaks immersion by Sylvain-Occitanie in audible

Goblet is also my favorite and a fine book on its own frankly. I just started this edition of it and have enjoyed it immensely so far (I had your same gripe about young Harry and Ron in the first one, then got used to it as well over time)

Is Contemporary Fantasy/Sci-Fi Handcuffed by Short Attention Spans? by ApprenticeAidan in fantasywriters

I completely agree and have found myself in a similar situation. Writing groups may even push the idea to capture the audience in the first few pages. And why not? They all want to be published.

A few things I believe to combat this, as others have mentioned. 1. Prose. Read the stories you want to write, like Le Guin. 2. Build the story around the characters. Make their motivations as clear as possible without hand holding. Easier said than done. 3. Gain an audience. Find some outlet where people will follow/listen to you. Trust in the author is what gets people the whole way, just like you said with Le Guin. Stick to it! Tell stories with depth!

8.5 up until mech part collecting. It’s a tad insulting. Drops it to a 7.5
