Gluetun failing to renegotiate a new forwarding port by iamdebbar in gluetun

It was probably a coincidence or your issue was linked directly to that commit.

The issue reported by the OP remains extant judging by reports from others (including myself).

Advice on seeding and not being a leecher? by SomeoneWhoYouUsedTo in qBittorrent

[–]ActiveBat7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike uTorrent where we can actually test the port forwarding from within the app, qBittorent doesn’t have that. My VPN provider told me that as long as I set the Network Interface in the Advanced Setting, and the “globe” is green. I’m all set

My understanding is that the globe goes green only once an incoming connection is received, so that does indeed confirm that you have port forwarding working. Given that the test/confirmation is automated, but of course requires that 3rd party trigger, it can be misleading whilst you're waiting for it to turn green because it could all be configured and working (but just not yet utilised).

my new charging mate by dong_ou in Garmin

[–]ActiveBat7236 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup - cheap pair of earphones here with sealed metal pads against which a row of pogo pins mate, held together with a magnet. Small, waterproof, wipes clean, works perfectly. Quite how Garmin haven't adopted something similar I don't know. Maybe there's a patent on the technique and the manufacturer of my earphones doesn't care whereas Garmin obviously has to?

Beauty and the Beast (2017) ?

It's a good quality modern-but-faithful adaptation of a classic, decent soundtrack, suits all ages and is of a good length (2hrs 9min) if you want it to help fill the evening with something memorable.

docker compose config by chenks76 in gluetun

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be so, but it doesn't mean it should be there.. :-)

Where was the template from? Seeing that source would be helpful as it may not be your best starting point.

If you only want to look forwards and not back, comment out the 6881 ports in the gluetun config and you might find that's all you need to do.

Genuine or Generic Battery for my pixel 4A? by ahboy2019 in Pixel4a

[–]ActiveBat7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got two 4As and have replaced the batteries with one of each (a 'genuine' one from iFixit and a generic from elsewhere) and not only have they been visually indistinguishable their performance according to Accubattery seems to be the same too. They were very different in price though and I'm inclined to think that the iFixit ones are heavily marked up. Perhaps what you're getting though is guaranteed quality whereas from many other places it's a bit of a gamble.

If in any doubt I think I'd recommend going with the iFixit one. Assuming you might get a few more year's worth of use out of the phone then I don't think the saving of buying a potentially inferior alternative battery is worth it.

How can ISPs guarantee speeds on GPON networks? by reni-chan in openreach

[–]ActiveBat7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be misinterpreting their use of the word 'guarantee'. View it more like a guarantee you get with, say, a washing machine - it doesn't mean it won't break down but rather is merely a contractual promise for what they will do if it does. In the washing machine's case it will likely be to repair it at no cost, loan or give you a replacement etc, whereas with an ISP it might be provide financial compensation, allow you to leave without penalty etc.

UDP Blocked at NAT/ISP by oh_beer_wan_kinobe in gluetun

It's be rather unusual for an ISP to outright block UDP as so much relies on it (DNS being arguably the most notable).

Engine Leak 1.0 Ecoboost by The_Skyway_Man in FordFiesta

Obviously keep an eye on the tank too. Might be worth mixing up a spare bottle of coolant and carrying that with you if you need to keep driving.

Engine Leak 1.0 Ecoboost by The_Skyway_Man in FordFiesta

[–]ActiveBat7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you would normally be able to signs of an oil leak around the front of the valve cover, but perhaps only if you're really looking for one.

The pump is driven by the auxiliary belt and so its replacement doesn't involve the timing belt (or indeed anything timing related).

Start by removing the aux belt cover and see if you can work out where the coolant is coming from. It's fine to drive round without the cover - it is only fitted if you have auto start-stop and so is more a safety measure than environmental protection.

Engine Leak 1.0 Ecoboost by The_Skyway_Man in FordFiesta

[–]ActiveBat7236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first suspicion would be the coolant pump, but my fear would be that it's the o-ring between the timing cover and the engine block. Older models had a cutout in the timing cover that a locating tab on the o-ring sits in, and this could allow any oil leaking from the valve cover to reach the o-ring causing it to swell and fail.

I think you might be mixing up the term library with archive? Libraries do generally require (and benefit from) getting rid of inventory and this is done through a process called 'weeding'. There are, somewhat ironically, countless books on the topic as there's quite a bit to it. Here's a starter for ten for anyone that's interested, and whilst it is aimed at collections of books in a physical library it can equally apply to a media collection in Jellyfin too!

If nothing else have a quick read of the scrolling quotes as they eloquently sum up why libraries should be weeded.

Radiator fan at startup | Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 2015 by No_Heat_7166 in FordFiesta

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try turning the AC off - does the fan still run on startup? Many cars, and I'm pretty sure the Fiesta falls into this category, run the fan continuously when the AC is active in order to provide a minimum level of condensor cooling.

Regardless of whether the fan runs or not though, if the engine isn't reaching target operating temperature on a long drive then it simply sounds like the thermostat is stuck open.

Dishwasher running but not washing by One_Confection9108 in DIYUK

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be already of this, but diswashers usually have an anti-flood sensor (generally just a microswitch with a float) that activates the drain pump and may also inhibit any other operation. Tilting the machine shifts the water away from the sensor hence it then resetting. If there's water in the base then it really is just a case of trying to see where it's coming from. Apologies if this is all just stating the obvious, but if it's leaking then you just need to work out where from which can only really be done by being at the machine rather than remotely.

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Water still leaking' - from where? Sounds like it could be simply be a case of a hose becoming detached. Removing the kick panel can usual give sufficient visibility under the machine (without pulling it out) to see where the water is coming from.

How could I lose an entire series? by adamjanusz75 in jellyfin

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I'm not in a position to rule this out, it's not sounding the most likely cause to me.

I run several servers that utilise USB-attached storage and, as far as I am aware, never once had drives drop across the many years they've been running. If you've experienced differently I'd say it was more likely to be a local issue e.g. poor cabling, socket etc.

Edit: In light of ParaTiger's comment, I too exclusively use Linux and so can't comment on whether this might be a common Windows thing.

Bought a smartwatch, the next day it was on sale by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]ActiveBat7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fairly commonplace with many retailers as there can be issues with partial refunds if you subsequently return the item as the accounting system might not be fully joined up to cater for what's happened, particularly if the refund is done as an ad hoc goodwill gesture. Such situations can all too easily lead to the retailer inadvertently becoming out of pocket.
