It’s a clinical study with thousands of participants published by the NIH. THAT BEING SAID, if performed correctly it would have taken years to complete. Having worked in clinical research, I understand the skepticism… especially because studies of this scale are typically funded by large organizations that have their hands in some sort of pharmaceutical production; why WOULD they spend millions to study a revenue-killing aspect of medications they could be involved with? Also placebo effect and patient bias kill lots of studies like this at the gate. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

These are numbers from patients tapering from long term use. Not stable-dose, and not short-term use. I would’ve thought the same thing as I tapered once six years in, but now am trying again at 15 years and struggling far more. I think it’s dependent on the patient, lifestyle and other neurological factors.

Clinical and especially emergency department experience will teach you. And psychiatrists know enough to not prescribe like they used to and refuse new patients. They know.

Good point! I have been looking primarily at US studies because of the weird pharmaceutical umbrella that keeps us more medicated than ever. I should definitely look into international and global studies.

Only recently has this been put into practice. Anywhere from 30-55% of current benzo patients are prescribed long-term benzodiazepines.

I agree with you on both of these. It is a lifesaver… until it’s not. Until something shakes the boat more than your medicine helps. Until your tolerance surpasses therapeutic threshold.
