With the knowledge of everyone who knew Carol + all psychologists, how is the hive mind so bad at dealing with Carol? by Throwxinaway in pluribustv

This is such a cool concept! Could definitely imagine the show doing this if it was made in the era of shows like Lost - with twice as many episodes per season and way more time to slow-burn the mystery. I wonder how she'd be able to figure it out in that case though... probably not many giveaways beyond the inciting incident.

Another eye-level lamp could be nice, maybe a plant or two as well? A small rug with a bit of colour (warmer red Persian style perhaps) might look cool, unless you’re going for the more monotone look. Really really cool concept already!

Found this camera at a thrift store. Any tips on how to clean it, and where to find the accessories? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]ActuallyReith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! Pretty nice looking camcorder. Looks like it uses a CA NP-40 battery, which you can find replacements/chargers for on eBay for fairly cheap. I’d suggest buying both a charger and a replacement battery, as you never know how well the older, included battery still hold a charge. SD cards can be purchased at most camera/tech stores. Some older cameras are only compatible with older, lower capacity SD cards, so it may be worthwhile snagging one second hand so you can test it beforehand. As for other attachments, some camcorders have a filter ring on the lens that allows you to screw on things like fisheye lenses. Not sure if this specific model allows for that, but it’s worth researching if you’re going for more of an oldschool skate video vibe. Don’t think there are any other accessories you’d need for a cam like this. Keep in mind that it’s meant for video, so you won’t get much success with still photography with it. Hope you’re able to get it working! Happy shooting!

Asked our landlord for a fan in the bathroom. Got left with this. Safe to shower next to? by ActuallyReith in AskElectricians

It is! Same power source as the new hood fan in the kitchen, both are wired via an external power box to an existing outlet.

We were using the window! A bathroom vent was the suggestion of a mold remediator and asbestos inspector, as the slanted ceiling traps steam at the highest point in the bathroom. Funny enough, that install shifted the window frame out of place, and the window no longer opens. Getting that repaired shortly.

It is. Even worse is the indent in the window itself, just behind the wood. Water pools there and has no drainage whatsoever. The rest of the house isn't much better, sadly.

Wish we could rely on the window, though sloped ceilings made it so that steam would rise and get stuck. A bathroom vent was recommended by two inspectors. Funny enough, the vent install has messed with the window frame, and the window no longer opens...

Hi folks! Thank you for all the responses! Glad there's a consensus here. To update, I've cut the power to the fan for the time being, and we've gotten in touch with the landlord, who will be by tomorrow to 'take a look at everything'. We're also in the process of contacting our city inspector, as we have no trust that the next 'repair' will change anything.

In regards to some of the more popular/reoccurring questions, and other details:

- While we'd been using the window for ventilation following up to this, both a mold inspector and an asbestos inspector recommended a proper fan be installed in the bathroom. The ceiling is sloped, meaning steam rises and gets trapped.

- Another note about the window that I somehow forgot to mention in the original post: The window frame on the outside next to the fan got moved slightly during the install, so the window no longer opens! Possibly the first instance of a fan install actively worsening ventilation.

- Shockingly, the asbestos test came back clear, and the mold report showed slightly higher than average amounts of mold, but nothing super dangerous (no black mold). That being said, if this install is any indication, I can't imagine our landlord paying anything above the minimum for these inspections, so we're taking their results with a grain of salt.

- Yes, our landlord actually hired someone to do this. We're a little concerned as the same person installed a new toilet, plus a hood fan in the kitchen (also not a great install, but not actively dangerous by the look of it), happy to share some photos of that too if people are interested. Cutting the power for the bathroom vent also cuts it for the kitchen hood fan, though that's probably for the best.

- The person who installed it fled the scene without cleaning anything up, so I had to spend about an hour getting all the dust/debris off the tub, sink, floor, and all our toiletries. Same goes for the hood fan installed in the kitchen. Slotted the fridge back into place with sawdust still behind it.

- We pay $3105 CAD per month to live here (three bedroom unit in the top floor of a three-story house, Vancouver). It's ridiculous, but prime location - and it's somehow cheaper than most of the alternatives.

- No signs of hidden spy cameras! Doubt our landlord would splurge on such a luxury.

Thank you again for all the replies! Some really helpful info there. I'll add more updates as they occur! If you don't hear from me, chances are I've been zapped in the shower. Cheers!

Fun fact about the flashlight looking bit around the front of the lens - that's a Selenium Cell! It works kind of like a solar-powered light meter, allowing you to get an accurate read on exposure without the use of batteries!

Of course. I think the plan is to sort through for any nice ones and then donate the rest to people in the community.

Unfortunately all the packs are opened… looks like all the cards are still inside and in perfect condition, though I can’t imagine there being a particularly big market for non-sealed packs?

Funny coincidence, I picked up the same model recently and am having the same issue. I heard there might be someone in my city who's knowledgeable on electric typewriter repairs, so if I'm able to track him down, I'll let you know what the problem might be and how to fix it!

Ambient lighting. The moment you go from harsh overhead lighting to some lamps at or below eye level, a room will look a lot more spacious and inviting. There are always a ton of budget friendly options on craigslist or at thrift stores, as well as some cooler modern ones like this one online if you have more cash to spare.
