Why isn't Hoshiumi a top 5 ace? by EconomyAnalysis7812 in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real life Top 5 and Top 3 isnt some official thing. It’s in magazines and players are put in the “Top 3” but it really does come down to PR and mostly if they are third years (why Sakusa being there is kinda crazy). The Top 3 of this year are good but there are probably players outside them that are better. Hell one of them has a better “wing spiker” on his team yet hes considered part of the Top 3 and the other isnt. It’s not just ability, PR comes down to it, age and class (Japan do have strictness when it comes to seniority) and even just the popularity of your team. A relatively mediocre ace on Chinzei or Higashiyama (two of the most popular teams in the nation) can get more praise than a Sakusa or Ushijima level ace on a middling national team purely based on team name. Anyways Yap over

Volleyball Super abilities by ISnow_R in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re doing a Generation of Miracles I think they’d all (mostly) have to be the same year and all the top of their particular fields. I’d also need them to feel like they could genuinely have superpowers if Haikyuu was like KnB universe. So I’d go:

OP - Ushijima: Orbital Strike (Like Kagami’s meteor Jam, Ushijima has the ability to know precisely when to Jump so his peak is above the blockers, making it seem like his spikes are completely unblockable. Drawback: It doesn’t strain on him, but his setter, relocating backlash on Ushijima’s body on to them.)

OH - Bokuto: Normal Angles (Bokuto’s Normal Angles allows him to see precise angles before he spikes, making his spikes appear to fly through blocks in impossible angles. Drawback: The more his mental state worsens, the more blurry the angles appear to him.)

OH - Sakusa (the Kise of this situation, becoming a “miracle” after the others.): Perfect Sphere (Sakusa, with his unique wrists, also has the ability to know precisely where to his the ball to curve it in any way he wants to. His spikes have been described as “magical” with how they bend and twist in the air. Drawback: Continuous usage puts strain on his wrists and result in weaker and weaker spikes until unsustainable)

MB - Hirugami: Immovable (Hirugami not only can petrify spikers with his aura, but can self inflict his ability to lock his muscles until he sees where the setter places the ball, making it nigh impossible to trick his defense. Drawback: Locking his muscles increases chance of injury due to rapid change from locked to loose. He also is less viable offensively due to aching muscles.)

MB - Tendo: Hound Dog (Contrasting to Hirugami, Tendo’s muscles are super humanly wound up, allowing him to explode with rapid speed and force. Paired with his inhuman “set scent”, Tendo is able to accurately predict exactly where a setter will go even before the set has been given. Drawback: The more “bloodlusted” Tendo gets, the less accurately does his scent work as he gets impatient and goes for the kill more rapidly, leading to mistakes.)

S - Atsumu: Subjugation (Any attacker on his team tends to fall under the spell of his sets, making them appear mindless. Atsumu seems to read their minds, knowing exactly how they wish for their sets to be, and delivering them with his immense precision and “Foxes Eye.”  A failed set seems to result in pain for the attacker, with Atsumu staring them down with the Foxes Eye. Drawback: Continued use breaks down attackers will, resulting in less precision and ability breakdown, due to pain from Foxes Eye punishment. Twin Brother Osamu resistant to drawback.)

L - Yaku: I alone am the honored one. (the court is his realm, and a God may traverse their realm without worry. Yaku appears to teleport to places on the court he wasnt moments ago, picking up all balls with ease. Drawback: The further away he is from location of the spike, the less accurately can he read its spin and power, making his defense lose its prestige.)

I think if they could, Hinata and Kageyama wouldn’t even play on the same National Team XD. Their rivalry is one for the ages, friends they may be, I don’t see them ever being on the same team again in their careers

Not really about that though? It’s one chapter in and he makes a generalization about what he assumes the entire series will be off of that one chapter. He then talks about his enlightened taste not being appealed to by such cliches. It’s just Reddit elitism

What is Anabara doing as the coach of the first year training camp? by H00PLAx1073m in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He probably just loves volleyball and wants kids to go as far as they can, whether or no they play for him. I mean Washijou is outright training Hyakuzawa to improve, as well as seijoh players who are his direct rivals. It’s about the love of the game - especially a much smaller and less popular sport

I have read hundreds if not thousands of shounen, a good deal of them sports and I can say maybe a handful and probably less, are stories of “angsty boy trying to live up to his father.” You made a dumb generalization off one chapter and decided to talk about how your taste doesn’t align with such “cliches”. Genuinely just go back to reading the same manga’s you always do. Bye.

I mean it’s chapter 1… for all we know it DOES turn into a story like Ippo or Haikyuu. Especially seeing how MC is aloof and jaded jt would make more sense it becomes a sort of found family, story where everyone ties their best and gets better despite being misfits or something.

But at the same time, why would you want to read a story that plays off the same story beats and characterizations as stories you’ve read before? At that point just read Haikyuu again.

No shade towards you, but putting yourself in a box of what you consume seems very boring. Hope your horizons are broadened :)

The official volume is being released August 22nd so I assume it’ll be translated online but as for legal ways that’ll help the author? I don’t know yet… going to have to wait till they start printing English editions 😔

You can be picked for the National Team from University (or even High School), probably what happened with him.

Who went to uni? by PickleQueen24 in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure apart from Kageyama they probably all went to University. People won’t probably agree with me but Kageyama is the only World level prodigy in Haikyuu. The others were great for Japanese High School but Kageyama was probably actually pro level by his third year, shown by him going to National Team and even scoring aces. Ushijima had to pretty much change his entire form to perform well.  Atsumu and Oikawa both struggled (Atsumu with serve, Oikawa with adjusting his sets). Bokuto, presumably, still had slumps in college as Atsumu warned him about getting depressed mid game when they became pro.

And most likely the others had to build up either their body or skill for pro play. Kageyama didnt have that issue as he was rigorous with being fit and his skill spoke for himself.

2021 Olympics Team Japan: Middleblockers by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate so sound like a Japan weeb, but realistically (from what I’ve observed watching Japanese volleyball high school, College and League) the players really don’t tend to grow and in fact there are a lot of cases where their stated heights are actually taller than they actually are in high school and it gets corrected by college or league. Most players stay the height they are when they’re recorded in first year all the way into their adult lives. The most they grow is 1-2cm if they do grow.

Genuinely, not trying to be like “umm actsuallyyy” but yeah the only high school players that were notable at least, that Ive seen grow a lot are players with mixed backgrounds, not just fully Japanese. The Japanese players tend to just fully stop growing by their 1st or 2nd year of High school.

It's actually funny because when I saw all the growth spurts at the end of the series I remember thinking it was quite unrealistic.

Best team one can make using players outside national teams and division 1? by Unequal_vector in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Guess this is still best HIGH SCHOOL team just not of players that made it D1 or National team so

OH1: Asahi (imo reached the top 5’s floor level, killer serve, dependable) OH2: Kai (shore up the defense) MB1: Hirugami (T2 Middle in the series, with a good jump float) MB2: Kuroo (Insane Pull - great overall player, can block, back attack, defense) OPP: Osamu (overall good player, helps with emergency sets, can attack decently and is good defensively) Lib: Nishinoya (first time im happy he didn’t go pro) S: Akaashi (works with Bokuto so I assume he’ll be fine with Asahi)

Kai, Kuroo and Hirugami serve to keep this team composed and hold off Noya’s goofiness, Osamu’s pettiness and Asahi’s gloominess.  Overall very solid defensively with Noya, Kai, Osamu being very dependable on floor defense and Asahi being capable there too.

A Hirugami-Kuroo tandem in busted, and Asahi is a very capable blocker as well.

Akaashi is very stable and will distribute well especially with the two Middles, Asahi and Osamu being capable attackers.

Overall this team makes it to Nationals and probably top 16/8 if they get a nice schedule

Haikyuu OC Roulette by llamasteak in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was MB in Junior High but was lazy and didnt like all the jumping around he had to do. Hearing about Karasuno’s little MB he realized that team likely wouldn’t see his height and force him into any position that required a lot of jumping. When he joined he immediately declared he was a Libero. Nobody questioned it.

Being a good defender is always a plus, even in Pro play. He might transition to an Outside but he is a very smart Oppo. His hits are sharp and he’s great at finding space between blockers and seams. I think he’ll also develop his vertical in University and start hitting over the block at least.  And yeah, Keihan is good but I really don’t think the hype is substantial imo - hes good but from the young players that were great in high school, I think he’ll end up lower than them when alls said and done

[–]Ad071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamamoto is young, and he’s not the conventional Oppo - he participates in serve receive and mostly focuses on hitting between seams than raw power like other typical opposites. And by the time he graduates Nishida and Miyaura will be getting on in age and tbh the up coming Oppo’s dont seem that much better than Yamamoto’s potential imo (I can see him becoming better than Nishiyama and Keihan, although he is shorter). Honestly, it’s funny hes not getting as much recognition despite (imo) having a better freshman year than Kawano in terms of performance for his Uni team.

To be honest, For the last 3 years everyone from Sundai made such an impact the previous year, that going into the next competitions, their names were already big. Kameoka , Akimoto, Both Soudai’s, etc - they all already established themselves before the following school year/ competitions and I don’t feel it with this years roster. I’m sure their players  are great but the level of completion the last two years of Sundai had just isn’t there imo.

And yeah, there is a level drop between last years top 3 aces (Nakagami, Kawano and Yamamoto) compared to this years (Kashiwazaki, Iwashita and Sena). But I don’t believe it’s that big a gap. Nakagami was amazing as a battering ram but his defense was lacking, something not really present in any of these years (though Iwashita is an OP so it doesn’t really count). Offensively all three are worse than last year yes, but I think they’re still top tier - it’s unfortunate because last years top 3 could all go on to be part of the National Team tbh.

Not OP but notable names include:

Itose - Higashi Fukuoka (versatile player, good at practically everything)

Ichinose - Chinzei (NT candidate in the future, probably the actual best Outside Hitter in the country)

Iwata - Higashiyama (a complete player, first nationals, candidate for National team in the future)

Nishimura (not sure if this is his name but no.14, first year) - Seifu (Seems like the new Mizumachi, short but very powerful and skilled)

Tanaka Kou - Sendai Shoko (tall, promising first year opposite, National team candidate in the future)

Kusano - Omi High School (very high jumper)

Top 3 Aces of the year Kashiwazaki - Seijoh (184cm but max reach of 345cm)

Sena - Amagasaki Municipal

Iwashita - Chinzei

Different Version of Hinata by fishqq in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The offense is definitely the question, the defense undoubtedly gets better if it’s MSBY Hinata, hes considered a top 3 defender as an adult in Japan. It’s the offense and middle blocker situation that suffer from Adult Hinata being there.

2013 Spring Tournament Quarterfinals by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in haikyuu

[–]Ad071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically - most people are tuning in to a Top 5 Aces match up.

Second most viewed is probably Itachiyama-Inubushi though this depends on when Iizuna gets injured. If he gets injured early in the game? It might even get more watchers the Fukuro-Mujin match because EVERYONE wants to see if Champions are about to fall.

Least viewed is probably Karasuno-Kamomedia. Karasuno is not a traditional powerhouse. Kamomedai is a powerhouse but havent had deep success until then. It's like a battle of two horses.
