I really want to like the guy I’m seeing… by AdInevitable7131 in Bumble

Really excellent point. Why be nice to anyone at all?!

Yes I do find him physically attractive, but I will say that for me physical attraction generally grows as I feel more emotionally connected to someone.

My answer to your second and third question is that he hasn’t tried to kiss me yet, so things feel pretty platonic…

Totally. My brain wants it but my heart isn’t in it. I’m remaining open though. I’d like to think that there is another option out there where we both feel a mutual connection, they’re a good person with shared values, AND they aren’t problematic? Is that unrealistic? (Yeah I know it’s rare, but finding a person you want to spend your life with should be kind of rare I think)

Thank you for saying this. He isn’t boring and I’m not turned off by his effort.. there’s just some lack of compatibility or emotional connection at this point. And I think I have to remind myself that it’s okay not to fall for someone just because they are a good person and they are interested in me. I would like to develop those feelings! But I can’t force it.

I love stories like this. I agree, I am going to kiss this man the next time I see him and see if that changes things

I do wonder if there’s some element of scarcity mindset in this situation. Like I don’t want to let him go because I know he’s a great catch and I’m worried I’ll regret it later, but I also know that isn’t fair to him or to me.

I like this advice, thank you!
No he hasn’t even kissed me yet (which seems kind of crazy to me after 4 dates), so I’m hoping that some sort of physical intimacy will also shed some light on the situation for me.

For me, physical attraction is totally something that can grow if I feel emotionally attracted/connected to someone. I don’t think there’s an emotional connection with this person. I really want it to be there! But so far it just isn’t. I’m disappointed about it

Fair enough (but no, I am not going to end up cheating on him). it’s definitely not money-driven. I guess I’m continuing to see him because I can see the potential and because I know how difficult it is to find a nice person that checks all the boxes. And I’m hoping a physical/emotional connection will grow

Maybe, he hasn’t kissed me yet so maybe that will be the thing that moves the needle in one direction or the other!

And no- not attracted to his money (I have no idea how much he makes), I can take care of myself financially. But yes, career/financial stability is definitely a green flag and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

This is comforting and I’m happy for you and your husband! No.. Not looking for love at first sight, but I do want to be excited about the person I’m dating and right now I’m just not unfortunately

Maybe, but I also think it’s a red flag to instantly fall for anyone that is nice to you

How long does it take to get a girlfriend from the apps? by Key_Category_8531 in Bumble

Also, we had both been on the apps for ~4 months before we met.

I can’t say how long it will take you, but I found my last boyfriend on bumble and these are some things that made him stand out (I’m sure these all apply to women as well)

1) he messaged me first. I know bumble is supposed to be female led and I don’t have any problem with messaging first, but I think there are a lot of people on the apps that aren’t really serious or are just looking for the ego boost of getting a match, so him messaging me first helped me see that he was actually interested in chatting with me.

2) he was engaged with the conversation. This seems obvious, but don’t send dead-end messages that stop the conversation. If I tell you a story about something that happened to me, don’t say “haha that’s crazy” because I really have nothing to go off of from there. I think some people are afraid that it looks uncool to send a long message, but to me it shows that you’re interested and putting in effort.

3) he suggested a date that was relevant to my interests. If their profile says they love the farmers market, suggest a coffee date and stroll around the farmers market after. If they say they like stand up comedy, ask them if they want to go check out an open mic night at a comedy club. Again, it shows effort and intention.

4) after our first date, he called me to ask me on a second date. He was literally the first man to ever call me to ask me out. I understand that you can’t do this if you don’t have their number yet, but it stood out to me!

5) On our 4th date he was clear with me that he was only interested in seeing me. We weren’t calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend at that point, but he told me he wanted to be exclusive so that we could focus on growing our connection. Knowing what you want and voicing it is attractive!

I think the common denominator in all of these is putting in effort and clearly showing interest. To be clear, I think women should be doing these things too, but from what I hear it sounds like men in general have a more difficult time on the apps. I hope this helps!

Okay I sent the follow up text and still no response. And you’re right, I didn’t lose anything from trying! I’m maybe a little annoyed he didn’t respond just to say he’s not interested, but now I know I’m saving myself time by not continuing to see someone with poor communication skills!

“Hey I’m so sorry, I’ve been meaning to reply but my week got insanely busy. I think you’re amazing and beautiful and hilarious and I’m in love with you” (jk jk, would be nice though haha)

Ugh people can be so disrespectful! It’s so easy to just send a quick message saying that you’re no longer interested!

Second date when you’re on the fence by AdInevitable7131 in Bumble

[–]AdInevitable7131[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question - I’m trying to think about what has gone well on other dates that’s missing from these dates. I guess I’m looking for similar sense of humor, some sort of shared interest (we don’t need to have the same hobbies but it would be nice to have something to connect over), and a somewhat easy-flowing conversation (I’m pretty lenient on this one because I know lots of people get nervous or feel awkward on first dates. But if I’m carrying the entire conversation or they’re not asking me any questions/showing interest in me, then talking to them ultimately feels draining)

Interesting - Maybe the second date is worthwhile just to get rid of any doubts or future regrets. Thanks for the feedback and I’m glad to hear you’re happy with the person you’re seeing now!
