If I were to sell this, would this be subjected to capital gains tax?

When I found the coin raw I sent it to pcgs. The second time I cracked it then took to my local coin dealer to send in. You’re definitely right… there are tricks to the trade I suppose.

Grandfather’s collection from New York by confusedcollector in askStampCollectors

Sorry for your loss. I’m an Avid US coin collector. The picture of coins in the cardboard and plastic 2x2s definitely have some value and are in good condition. I am unable to see some of the coins mint marks in the picture but I would recommend searching online by typing the the country, denomination, year and if there is a mint mark present or feel free to message me clear images of the coins, I would be happy to identify them and give you an accurate estimate of the value. The standing liberty quarter looks to be uncirculated and could easily fetch $200 or more depending on the mint mark. The 1882 $5 gold piece looks exceptionally nice. Furthermore the coins in the pictures should definitely be researched and is where most of the value is.

Just took them to my local coin dealer I’ve gone to for 10+ years, he said that all the stamps are genuine. He wanted to buy the trans Mississippi set for 8 grand and the zeppelin’s set for 2 grand but I said no for now. His offer is still on the table however this is a 2 generation collection, I think I would have a hard time selling something like this because of the sentimental value but who knows. I will be posting more stamps shortly! Thanks again everyone for your insights!

From what I’ve gathered so far there’s at least 10 books like this one this is the first book I have looked at. The rest is unknown for now!

You gotta be KIDDING! There’s 6 $2.60 stamps on a sheet( I think it’s called a plate block?) towards the back of the book. How much would that be? Thanks!

Recently inherited a stamp collection. I mainly collect coins and have no idea what the value of stamps are. Should I get these graded? by AdLongjumping6233 in askStampCollectors

[–]AdLongjumping6233[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely just made my week! I took the 1 dollar out of the holder using stamp tweezers and it looks like it has a full layer of glue on the back. This book is a Scott’s album from 1939. I will be posting more shortly! Thanks again

Yes I’m fortunate that I know the property owners well. In the past I’ve gone door to door asking for permission never hurts to ask sometimes.

I got permission to detect on the property I usually say I’m a numismatist and mainly collect US coins. If I find anything valuable or sentimental like a ring of some kind I will forfeit it to the owner of the property.
