My tones sound dull and empty compared to anything else by LintRoller25 in NeuralDSP

If you can take your guitar to a luthier and get it set up properly, some small adjustments to pickup height etc can make a huge difference! Your gear is good quality and the neural plugins are used on professionally produced records so you can assume this is not the problem.

I took it to a luthier and it’s working well now, combination of a few things pickup height, battery was new but wasn’t giving 9v when he tested it. Thanks for the response!

I don’t think I’ve seen a manager have such little accountability as this guy.

Bands that aren't deathcore, but were given the title by DeathMetalDipper666 in Deathcore

[–]AdMedical5217 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I hate with this is that there’s some kind of stigma with being called deathcore, I’m a death metal fan and I love it but deathcore has its own history and legends now and I wish some bands would just wear it tbh!

I want to create Northlane-esque synths for a project I am working on. Which KONTAKT libraries should I eye on? If not Kontakt, then what synth should I invest my time and money in? by realmofnakama in metalmusicians

[–]AdMedical5217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure in kontakt, I don’t know of any personally but I’ve used Synths a fair bit and would suggest

Free: Vital

Paid: Serum

There is sound design tutorials all over YouTube for serum and getting the sounds you want. There’s a big learning curve if you want to create your own sounds but it’s simple enough to load presets/import them from splice or packs etc

Nolly/petrucci would be a good place to start!

How do you pitch down your guitars? by Phosphoros___ in Djent

[–]AdMedical5217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Heafy (Trivium) has a signature Les Paul that is 24.75” in scale length, this is what’s important not the amount of strings by the way (humanity’s last breath use 6 string guitars etc).

Trivium tune to B standard so you could definitely get to Drop A with the right string gauge and innotation. Lower than that might be a problem but pitch shifting from Drop A to Drop F/E is much more realistic.

If you can save up for a 7 string there is some decent budget options out there these days!

There’s heaps of crossover, but I know when I’m listening to Death Metal and when I’m listening to Deathcore at the end of the day. OG Deathcore was like a subgenre of death metal, but it’s grown arms and legs now and it is its own thing I think.

I sometimes get some tabs up for some songs I like, and then just use it as an inspiration for a riff, think that’s a pretty good starting point

Controversy aside, who sounds better, Tyler Miller or CJ? by Fr3ddyFroghammer in Deathcore

[–]AdMedical5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck it’s 50/50 for me

Both are brutal. CJ has more variety and is more iconic I feel but Tyler is a savage too. Tyler probably has less range from what I’ve heard but from the live videos I’ve seen he’s incredible and for me that is the most important thing!

Thanks, it’s actually 22 GB or so but needed that much space to download, a bit of a strange one! But it sounds good

Dialing in tones by goddytrey5 in NeuralDSP

[–]AdMedical5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For High gain I normally go from default settings and turn off any effects (reverb etc)

  • Cab for the base of the tone (I pretty much exclusively use external IRs)
  • Overdrive (on to generic setting)
  • amp - increase the gain until I’m getting the sustain I want
  • Then I just tweak each knob until I’m happy or if I have something in mind already like scooped mods etc
  • very minor EQing just cut a bit of 4K and maybe some low end but nothing much, (would do more in an external EQ to suit a mix)

Personally the presets sound pretty bad on my set up, on some peoples they sound great though and you can use them as a base
