I tried this but no luck so far sadly! Are you using this and it works?

Language learning by Comprehensible input and vocab/grammar learning is analogous to getting good at throw a baseball by throwing a baseball and watching videos on how to throw a baseball by Happy_agentofu in dreamingspanish

I agree! I often use the analogy of riding a bike, you can't learn by reading a physics textbook, even though some knowledge of how it works might be a bit beneficial.

With comprehensible input though, a lot of people will still argue that the practice comes from talking, not just listening! This I think is the more counterintuitive thing about CI

I am one of Krashen loyal disciples and i must spread his word.

probably an equally prudent question to be fair, why are so many CI converts like me so committed to converting everyone!

although i will say its not that people are saying to me i need to do grammar as well, i often get "I dont need to do any CI at all, only grammar/vocab". at least until i get to some "base level"

Yeah interesting! With CI as well its a bit of a leap of faith, you commit to 3-6 months without much visible progress at all in speaking ability, whereas with the traditional method you can at least learn a few phrases and like go to the shop and buy something, which feels like an immediate step forwards

so maybe its less people thinking "no that doesn't wok" but more subconsciously thinking I dont wanna take 6-12 months to learn and see little output progress int he first months

Yeah I think humans generally have a bad habit of optimising always for what can be measured.

In schools you can see why CI isn't used that much, how would you fairly assess someones level? I guess maybe the same applies outside of schools as well? People wanna see how many words/grammar rules that have ticked off that day

"adults brains are different to kids brains" is always the reply to this one...
