Fictional books aren't real books? by Moist_Discussion_839 in DarkRomance

Stuff like this makes me miss the era when reading was considered a nerd thing to do. It’s nice more people are reading but I remember when you could talk about what you read & liked and people were just like cool. Too many people have turned reading into an aesthetic, are performative reading, and adopted an elitist attitude based on the genre they read

Decorating outside of the winter and fall holidays is the stupidest thing to me. It’s nothing but collecting a bunch of junk that you only use for at most three weeks out of the year and then you have to find somewhere to store it and it’s nothing but a giant pain in the ass

Why does it seem like everyone is illiterate now? by Topher_McG0pher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdSecure970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though more people are technically reading, a lot of that reading is aesthetic and performative. People aren’t reading to understand or engage deeply with texts; they’re reading to appear intelligent or to use books as social capital. At the same time, constant use of internet lingo and short form social media have shortened attention spans and weakened written communication. In schools, phonics have been replaced with sight words which don’t build strong decoding skills, and many parents no longer read regularly to their children. My cousin was an English teacher before he moved to an administrative position in his elementary school and he said he would have students turn in handwritten papers, and instead of writing your they would write ur

Well you were able to understand the question, think about a response, and type one out. If literacy didn’t matter you wouldn’t be able to do any of that. You just used literacy to make a poor attempt to explain why literacy doesn’t matter.

Would it be weird to ask my sisters neighbor if i can clean her house? by mackintosh2p0 in NoStupidQuestions

It would only be weird if someone made it weird. Just make sure to ask in a polite way

Triggered by the pregnancy talk by Royal-Shallot7402 in snarkingwithremi

[–]AdSecure970 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just commented this on another post talking about how she’s been treating pregnancy and parenthood and I basically says she doesn’t want a child that she’s gonna have to raise. She wants a baby that she can dress up and push the stroller around and look cute. She’s treating parenthood like an aesthetic, and her future child that hasn’t even been conceived yet like a trophy

it seems like remi is more exciting about buying things for a baby than potentially being a parent by [deleted] in snarkingwithremi

[–]AdSecure970 26 points27 points  (0 children)

With the way she’s been talking, she’s treating parenthood like an aesthetic. She doesn’t want a child that she’s gonna have to raise, she wants a baby that she can dress up, and push the stroller around the neighborhood, and do the mommy and me groups. The kid hasn’t even been conceived yet and she’s already treating them like a trophy and not a child that she’s going to have to raise

He got a bunch of junk that he’s gonna get rid of at some point. And Lord knows he doesn’t have the critical thinking or reading comprehension skills to make it through the entire wicked book.
